Now I've heard everything. In some parts of the country, Muslim calls to worship are commonplace. In Phoenix, ringing the church bells is prohibited by a local noise ordinance. Interestingly enough, the bells were not louder than what was allowed for ice cream trucks. http://www.alliancedefensefund.org/news/story.aspx?cid=4971

you're right. I came from a country with majority Moslem population. Their call to worship was done during whenever it supposed to be done, doesn't matter if non Moslems like my family happens to live nearby. I have never heard, and yes this is true, I have never heard any Moslem or anyONE person complains to them to the point they can be jailed for it. of course they complain to each other, who wouldn't? these calls to worship was made 3 times a day, it sure has more chance to disturb somebody's sleep than church bells that don't ring that often. but jailed because of that? nope. is it a noisy place? nope, not at the hours they ring it for sure. If you have ever wondered why moslems are so proud of their religion, now you know why. Now they are going to belittle non moslems more, knowing that no one will ever jail them for calling people to worship. Even now I live here, Canada is definitely non moslem country, I've never heard any moslem jailed for that reason. Why are people doing this, to certain religion and not to all? Maybe organized religion isn't favorable, but until the law says certain religion is not allowed to be practiced, the followers should be allowed to practice it and ringing the bell has been done for centuries. Ridiculous, isn't it?

No, Estherlou, there is another one you have to hear. In Punta del Este, a South Atlantic uruguayan resort, neighbours complained because the bells of a chapel near their houses disturbed their sleep. You know... in Punta del Este people stay up till early morning, because of having gone to dance to discos and the kind, and then they sleep past noon. I think it must be much bothersome the music coming out of the discos than the ringing of the bells.

Oh, for heaven's sake!!! Do they have laws prohibiting lawnmowers, then? Because they're a LOT noisier and unpleasant than church bells. Somebody somewhere there needs a "technical adjustment upside the head".

last time i was in phoenix, the traffic was so noisy i'm surprised they could hear anything other than that. some areas of the country, people will complain about any noise now, bells or not.they were griping about the hospital generator in my town.people don't seem to be happy unless they're complaining about something anymore.

OK now I've heeard everything. This is just crazy. What the heck is this world coming to? If they really want to get someone, they need to get those idiots who drive by with their bloody music blasting out of their cars, to the point that they blow people at outdoor cafes right out of their seats.
