I am a happy person in general, but when facing stress given by the immediate boss, I find it hard to be happy again. I even feel very depressed, which can affect my mood for a couple of days. When feeling depressed, I find it difficult for me to get concentrated on my normal work. I would just sit at the office table with a blank mind. Even when my foreign colleague talks to me, I have no interest in listening, but I still pretend to be listening to show my respect.
I have a hard day today( June 5th, 09) and I am still in low spirit. I feel depressed and blue as well.
So how do you deal with this situation when feeling depressed or blue, please?

It is not vey easy to handle stress. I am sorry for you. When I feel stressed, I will get out of it usign the following ways.
1. Talk to an intimate friend about the problems I am facing.
2. Listen to some nice easy flowing music.
3. Sleep well and watch good movies.
4. Go out and eat my favorite food
5. Go for shopping.
Try some of these. Talking to a good friend is really helful.

When I am feeling stressed out at work or if it is because of my boss, I simply shut it off my mind when I get home. My motto is always leave work-related matters behind after you go home and just deal with it when you go to work the following morning. When I get home, I simply relax and watch a movie or television show. Sometimes, I just surf the net or hang out with friends. These are my ways to relax after a stressful day. On weekends, I usually go shopping or go on outings or dine out with family or friends. Then I get energized already for the following week to come.

Hi jisir, as a staff, it’s normal that we might come across stress given by our boss at any time. Yeah, no matter how optimistic we are, we still will feel depressed and this usually would put us in an unhappy mood for quite some time until we have got the problem solved.
If the stress is from a new difficult task appointed, definitely I will feel depressed. I know I will be in low spirit if I keep on thinking the unhappy thing. It’s rather better for me to find a solution to cope with it. I will be happy again if I know how to deal with the difficulty or unpleasant stress. No matter the action is effective or not. It’s rather better than doing nothing and getting stuck in the low spirit.
I think after two days, everything is over now. Since you are a happy person, I believe you are as happy as usual again my dear friend.
Wish you all the best and happy posting!

Hello lkbooi. Thank you so much for your concern. I am now feeling much better because I told my only best friend whom I trust yesterday about my problem and he helped me so much that I felt much better. Last night I talked to my real boss about it and I was so glad that she is on my side and encouraged me not to think too much about it and she told me that both her and her husband have deep trust in me for my personality that they know. I am so glad that I have the understanding of my real bosses instead of the immediate boss, an invited one. I am smiling again for that. Thank you again for the concern and response, my dear friend. I am so glad to have you there to help me out of feeling blue. Have a good day and enjoy your life.

Hello my friend williamjisir Ji,
While under depression, I never think about reasons and try and come out. I think
entirely different subject. Here si something from the web :
http://www.wikihow.com/Deal-With-Emotional-or-Verbal-Abuse-While-Depressed
How to Deal With Emotional or Verbal Abuse While Depressed
Depression is a serious illness. Abuse cannot be tolerated if one desires to lessen
the effects of severe depression. The way you are treated by those around you greatly
impacts the way you think about yourself. This article shares a technique you can use
to get people to treat you the way you want to be treated.
1.If you suspect you have severe depression and know you experience emotional/mental
abuse you are one step ahead of most people in this circumstance. Some tips to help
you cope with a difficult delimma are:
2.See a mental health professional for an accurate diagnosis.
3.See a medical doctor for a prescription if necessary. Take the medication as
prescribed and do not stop the medication without telling your doctor.
4.Become willing to work with the doctor to alter medication when necessary since
these medications interact differently with all brains.
5.Evaluate your circumstances to see how you can set boundaries with the people in
your life whom you allow to emotionally and verbally abuse you.
6.Find out where your boundaries are. The way to do this is to remember back to when
someone said or did something that really hurt you or made you angry. This is where
one of your personal boundaries lie. Write that down. List as many of your boundaries
as you can think of. Now you know what people cannot do or say to you without your
being hurt. "
May God bless You and have a great time.

I think the best way to solve this problem is to change your atittude towards the stress given by the immediate boss. When you start your work, you can tell yourself that you are capable to figure out whatever the boss ask you to do.All in all, take it easy~

I will write down my feeling or share my feeling with my freinds.
Sometimes,we need to listen to our heart peacefully.
I don't think bule or depressed feelings are bad. That is part of me.
When I am writing or telling, the feeling will become realized.I won't be controlled by this part of me any more.Accept it,face it,solve it,and put it down.

Sorry to hear you're feeling down.
I'm going through a really tough patch at the moment and my doctor has included exercise in my treatment. I need to get 40 minutes of exercise a day. I take my dogs for a walk and also ride my bike in the afternoon. It releases endorphins, allows you to breathe fresh air and clears your mind. It's amazing how great you feel after just a bit of exercise every day. I hope you feel better soon.

I'm sorry you are having a blue day, my friend. I hope it doesn't last long.
Exercise always works best for me. Even if all I can fit in is a short stroll. But when I'm really, really stressed I prefer to sweat a lot for an extended period of time. It clears the mind, cleanses the body, and helps me to sleep well that night.

I have had problems with depression since my on the job injury in 1983. I also have had to deal with a LOT of stressful situations. I discovered a few things about myself. First, I can sense when a bout of depression is coming so I make sure that I get plenty of sleep, eat better foods, and treat myself well. The biggest thing that has contributed to my depression is if I don't get enough sleep...I make sure that the next night I get to bed early and get plenty of rest.
Also, when I am depressed, I DON'T watch the news! That makes my depression worse because of the massive amounts of bad news. I will turn on cartoons or a funny movie instead. It is amazing how much help a good laugh is when you are depressed or stressed.
What is really odd for me is that when I am really stressed and depressed I love playing the Fuge by Bach. I love the monster music that he composed, and it makes me feel better. I can visualize the movies and imagine the events in the movie. I also will watch favorite movies like "Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade" or any of the other Indiana Jones' movies.
I will say that my present boss is tough but fair. She is a slave driver of sorts, and pushes me to do more and think harder about what I am doing. She brings out the creative side of me, and does remind me that I do need to work the job until it is done rather than going from one project to another. My only complaint about my boss is that she doesn't pay well, but it is a bit hard to talk to her as I would be considered ODD for talking to myself. Yes, I am my own boss, I design and create artist teddy bears. So, unfortunately I can't feel the problems that you currently have. I just wonder if your immediate boss isn't feeling great stress from his superiors. Sometimes when a boss is grim and stressful to work for, they are under a LOT of stress themselves.
Right now, treat yourself well, get plenty of rest and treat yourself to something you enjoy. I bought myself some shrimp for dinner tomorrow night (I love shirmp). I couldn't afford a lot of them, but even getting just a couple brightened my day. I hope that your stress related depression will one day be eased and you can be your happy self again.

Hello Lovebear. You are so nice and kind as to share with me this topic. I have learned a lot from it. After two days of posting this discussion, I am now feeling much better. I am glad that I have you here to give me tips and I am also very glad that my best friend helped me a lot yesterday talking with me. Then late in the evening I called to pay a visit to my real boss in charge of the whole management. We had a nice talk and I am almost back to my previously happy state after talking with my best friend and my real boss in person. I am now quite relieved from the stress. I thank you and all the other friends here who are here for me. I wish you all the best, my dear friend.

Hello there my friend. My sister once asked me about stress. She finds her work very stressful. I told her to quit her job but I know it is not the right thing to do. Finally I found the answer to her problem. I told her that problems need solutions. Stress needs another approach. The solution to stress is forget about it. Give yourself a little time not to think of anything and relax to get rid of the stress. Whenever you feel stress get out and have fun, clean fun. Do things that makes you happy. I hope this helps you.

I do that often, sometimes that feeling lasts for a little while. I try to focus on the things that make me greatful and happy, though in that sort of mood, nothing is as grand as it seems at other times. I try to find something to take my mind off for a few, a good book, some interest art, a project, even if it is settling for TV or a movie. Just laying next to my partner as he watches TV makes me feel a lot better. Being intimate is also a great cure for stress. Sometimes, taking melatonin works well to ensure I am getting a good amount of sleep, it is easier to combat those feelings with a well rested mind.
Hope you are feeling better.

I hope you can recover fast with that feeling. I, too, felt depressed before. I cried the whole time, not knowing what to do to make me feel better. My friends told me to seek help from a professional therapist, to which I did not adhere. My mom just simply told me to meditate or ask guidance from God, for He will definitely help me..and so I did. I also ask my friends to pray with me. Sometimes, I spend more time doing beautiful things like helping the less fortunate.. In this way,I feel relaxed and not to stressed.

Well when I'm having a down day, I turn to my friends or boyfriend for support for the most part, talk to them about my problems. If I don't feel like talking though, I turn to music. A good, steady beat always lifts my spirits. Reading is also another coping mechanism I use. Getting lost in a good book, being taken away from the harsh reality I'm placed in, works wonders as well.

Sorry to hear you had a bad day. It will get better. Whenever I had a bad day in the office I would try to take a couple of deep breaths to calm myself down. Sometimes I would buy a nice chocolate candy bar to cheer me up. Also drinking some hot herbal tea always relaxed my spirits. When I would go home I'd take a nice long walk to clear my head.

Gosh... I feel your pain for my work week is always like this. I have two bosses. One is great, the other not so much. He always has so much self inflicted drama going on. Like yesterday, him not returning phone calls to clients and opposing counsel caught up to him. He yeld and screamed at me cause the attorney sent him a nasty letter about his lack of proffessional courtersy. I just hate going to work the day after he has had a blow up. Its sometimes physically hard for me to get out of bed to get ready for work cause I know what I will be facing. I cant realy answer your question cause Im still trying to find out the answer to that myself.
Good Luck and I hope your day gets better!!

I will tell myself that at the moment I enter the office area, I am no longer myself. I have sold out myself to the company and therefore I am what the company want me to be. Part of it is of course to make my boss feel he is in charge of everything. Therefore if my boss is trying to do things that will depress me, I will telly myself that it is just work and nothing more. It really makes no sense to be too serious of it as technically speaking, he is not making "me" depressed but the employee of the company depressed. I just so happen to be in that position to "feel" the depression. Above all, I am paid.

There's nothing worst than not feeling comfortable at your workplace. Having a bad boss is not only bad for you but for the company as well. If you don't seek help with this than you will never be the same again. It's like a marriage that breaks down and scars you for life. Find someone to help you through this.
