Last weekend we went strawberry picking with the kids. We had so much fun. By the time we left we had strawberry stains all over our shoes and clothes. It was worth it though because the strawberries tasted wonderful being picked straight from the fields. Have you ever gone strawberry picking before?

I am in eastern canada and we will not have strawberries for at least another month. They are flowering right now though. Every summer I go berry picking. Strawberries come out first and we try to get as many as we can. My friend gives me their rhubarb that grows wild in their yard and I go around and get the wild strawberries and make the most amazing jam from it. Basically I only pay for the sugar so it is great and cheap and organic and local and the kids love it. My favorite berries are blueberries which here in Nova Scotia grow like crazy and I can freeze for a whole year of muffins or pancakes or anything else. Yum!

There are some blueberry bushes at my mother-in-law's house that produce tons and tons of blueberries each year. They are awesome! The raspberry season and blueberry season overlap a bit. It makes for amazing fruit salads! I agree that having your own fruit trees/bushes is a great way to save some money. I dont understand why more people dont do it!

I'm sure those strawberries will be well worth the wait. I can't wait for the blueberries to come out here too. I'll need to take the kids to go blueberry picking too. I love them in pancakes also.

100s and 100s of times - there is nothing in the world better than fresh strawberries right off the plants. Last year I grew my own but didn't get too many strawberries. Had to move though and my plants got left behind. I will have them again someday though.

Chinese fruit we call YangMei - Hello Shar. I have no idea how to call this fruit in English, but we call it YangMei in Chinese. It is a kind of fruit grown on trees. It tastes sweet and sour as well. There was one time when I was invited to pick this kind of fruit on the spot and asked to eat them after they were picked. I love this kind of fruit and so do many other Chinese. Here is the photo for you to have a look at the fruit on the tree.

I'm glad that you at least were able to experience it in the past. Hmm..., you could always go picking peaches off of trees.

I've NEVER done this before, but I've always wanted to! Were they commercial strawberry fields that you went to, or does someone you know own a strawberry field?I'm definitely interested in going to one, but I don't think they have 'em where I live (Minnesota)!

That sounds like alot of fun. I have not been strawberry picking in a very long time. I have not been since I was a kid. I do not know where a local strawberry farm is around the new area we have moved to either.

It really is fun. Why not search the internet to find a local farm?

I have never had the pleasure of strawberry picking before but we did have a chance to pick mangoes from out trees out in the yard. They were so sweet and there were so many of them that we had to give them away. Cheers!!

I have been berry picking before in my yard, but never strawberry picking out in a big field or anything. I bet it would be fun though. My kids love strawberries. I am sure they would be a complete mess when they were done too.

I love strawberries so much, I think you really had so much fun. I don't go strawberry picking before, as in my city there's no strawberry garden. I have seen a TV programme about strawberries picking, but the strawberries are planted in a green house, the strawberries were so big, so juicy and red when the host of the programme picked them. I wish I will go strawberry picking someday.

Strawberries fresh from the patch are definitely the best! My grandparents always had a huge strawberry patch when I was growing up. We would usually visit for a week in June. Every morning we would have to go pick strawberries. I was still young at the time so I only had to fill 2 1-gallon buckets before I could go in. Everyone else had 5 gallon buckets to fill! My aunt and her kids were always glad for the week we were there. That meant they didnt have to come strawberry picking everyday! They usually had to do it for at least 3 weeks and would get quite sick of it! We always had tons and tons of strawberries, but they were so delicious. Especially when you would pick them and eat them right away. nothing quite like a fresh, sun-warmed strawberry! Of course the other nice part was freezing them so we could have delicious strawberries all year long! Glad you had fun!

When we go in Baguio, we usually do is to pick some fresh strawberry in strawberry farms, this is a exciting feeling, and also the cheapest way to purchase strawberry.
