im not sure what they are for and havent found anything in the info on mylot except they are to keep track of our interests. but some days mylot is running really slow and i want to get to a lot of my friends discussions. i tag every time i respond to a discussion but when its really slow i often wonder if it will take from your earnings or ranks if you skip the tags. anyone know about that.? anyone that sometimes dont tag? every response.

i guess i didnt explain this right. either that or no one else has to tag discussions they respond to. i mean the ones i respond to. not my own.

Tagging helps the viewer to get an idea about the discussion. Otherwise its quite difficult to go through the para if its long and one may lose interest to respond also.

i think it's mainly just for indexing.i'm not really sure it adds anything plus or minus.once in a while if i've answered a whole lot of discussions,i skip it.
i just get lazy LOL

i've not tried skipping because i always worry it will take away my earnings. but it seems after a bit, you have way to many interests.

hiii dear friend,,nice to meet you here..There is no need to tag the responses every time..I will post more than 20 responses everyday..I never tag the responses every time..If i think that it will be usefull to all i will tag it..And then i will tag my discussions every time..Tag a discussion is very important..Without tagging the discussion we wont get the more responses to that discussion if it is interesting also..Happy mylotting dear friend..have a nice day..keep smiling..

No, you don't. From what I understand Mylot encourages users to use tags, but it makes no difference to your earnings; it just makes it easier for people to find an article on a topic if the discussion has "relevant* tags (you'll notice that some tags used on Mylot are not relevant and some don't even make sense!)
Sometimes I use tags, but other times I don't, especially if I don't have much time. And sometimes the discussion already has tags that seem to describe the discussion perfectly well, so I don't see the need to add extra ones.

I'm presented with the screen so I just repeat a word that was in the heading. I try and participate in as much as I can as I think that everything we do here adds minimally to the algorythm thingy.
I have to say though that I've started deleting my interests. I cannot be interested in life or people as a hobby that I enjoy...sorry, that's just wrong.

now that is funny. maybe i should delete some interests to, since i have a lot of dumb ones also.

I believe tagging helps to group our discussions into certain search criteria. That way if someone searches for a keyword or when you log on if you have certain discussions or interests that you like then your discussion will show up there. At least that is how I believe the whole thing works.
Have a great day and happy myLotting!!!

I'll tell you a secret. The only reason I tag when I leave a response is so that if I go back to the discussion and reply again I don't have to take an extra step to bypass the tag.

Hi bunnybon7,
I have always tag my responses but I have been told that if you don't tag, then you don't get a lot in your earnings, whether that is true or not but I always do.

I always tag discussions I start, but rarely tag responses. I don't know why - probably just because of limited time on the computer.

I have never tagged any of my responses. As it is I dont like the tag option, it further slows down the process. I really dont understand the utility of tagging

I have done both and I am not sure if it affects our earnings or not. I think that there are times when I make more if I do tag every response but I am not sure of that. I bet there is something about it in the FAQ if we were to look. I just know that I like this site and I do what I can to make it work.

Tagging helps in making searches easy. It wont take a second to type a tag to the discussion. The advantage of tagging is that when you want to search for discussions they usually help, but since there are more number of discussions with almost the same(if not the same), tags are not so helpful. But if you want to search or a discussion that stands out of the gang, then you might want to use some right tags. They help to find such discussions very easily..

I've heard it rumored that tagging can earn you more money for participation, but I don't think that there is a way to confirm it or not. I wonder if tagging is what causes mylot to lag so much or if it is just that the site has too many people using it at the same time. There are so many online communities with thousands of people using them, like facebook and myspace. Those communities don't seem to have the same lag issues, so I wonder what causes it.

yes and when it lags is when i dont want to tag responses because of extra time it takes.
