Did anyone hear the newstory about the girl that was texting while she was driving and got into an accident and died? My husband does that. We went on a road trip a few weeks ago and he kept texting while he was driving. When he did this I would ask him to stop and he would say he could handle it. Sometimes when he did this he would start to go into the other lane and it would upset me. He claims he can handle it. After he heard this story, he said he would stop. Does anyone here text while they drive?

No, same with talking on the phone, they both can wait. Texting is just nuts, even if you take your eye off the road for a second, you can die. I've sneezed before, and almost got in a wreck.

hi lulu1220 here in california it is illegal to hold a cell phone while driving you can have it on a contraption but not in your hands, you must have both hands free to drive,if youdo not you will get a ticket and a large fine.so no texting on the freeways at all. save if for home.

I had read about similar incidents. I know that it is really dangerous to drive and at the same time text using the cellular phone. In fact, just even using the phone or answering the phone while driving will most likely take away your concentration which may lead into accidents. Though, I had to admit that there were occasions that I did text while driving. As much as possible I try to avoid doing such.

I think that some people can handle texting while tey are driving. i think if they have just a normal flip phone with regular keys it is pretty simple because you can feel the keys and not even have to look to know what you are typing. if you have a qwerty keyboard or a touch screen then I dont think it is safe

Hello Lulu, For me, I like texting and driving at the same time too, and so do my hub. But I will only do texting when the traffic is jam and I get bored in the car. But for my hub, he do texting even when he is driving in the high ways too. I just so worry on him .it is no safety at all to text and drive ! I always avoid to text my hub when he is driving. After reading this discussion, I think I better stop to text when I drive. I will tell this story to my hub too. I just hope he can get to change this bad habit. In my country, it is against the law to use hand phone while driving. But they are still many people like to do texting when driving . You will get a summon if you being caught texting while driving.

Hi Lulu, I never texting and talking on my mobile phone when I m driving. It is pretty dangerous as our concentration is more on mobile phone than to the road traffic. If I really need to use my mobile phone, then I will find the right place to stop/park my car, only then I will either SMS or talk on the phone. Always drive slowly and pay extra attention when driving and reach the destination safely!!

i always hate it when i see people using their mobile phone while driving... whether it is for calling or texting... it is so dangerous, irresponsible and they are putting their own lives and other people's lives at stakes... so i always tell my hubby not to do it and he never do it anyway... take care and have a nice day...

Here in the UK it's illegal to use a hand held phone while driving. It's very dangerous to do this, not only to the driver and passengers, but also to other road users.

Texting and driving are only acceptible if you can do so without actually having to look at your phone. Even then most people are not that coordinated and drive too fast to be able to manage a device and steer a vehicle, which is unfortunate for the rest of us.

Once in awhile because I have notice how dangerous it is when texting and driving at the same time. thankfull it has become a law here that you can not text annd drive at the same time. I do not think it is fair about talking and driving is against the law but now they have all kinds of gadgets that help you in that area. However, my cell has speaker so it is easier to do even thou people look at you kind of funny when they drive by. They must think that you are going crazy by talking to yourself in the car. lol. But Yeah I think it is a good idea that you wait to text or pull off somewhere to text.

Hello lulu1220, It is very dangerous that your husband drive and text at the same time. He is being irresponsible to his passenger, himself and other road users. I think you must be very firm on him regarding this matter. With his one hand texting, his eyes and mind only partially on the road, he might not react on time to any sudden changes in road condition. In my country, our traffic police department is very concerned about this problem. It is against our country's traffic law to drive + text or drive + talk on the mobile phone without hand-free earpiece at the same time. Regarding this matter, they are very strict in dealing with errant drivers. So far, my dad, my husband and myself don't text while driving. Have a great weekend ahead =)

I have to admit I used to text while I drive a few years back and at one time when I looked up after making a text response I saw a car right in front of me who apparently didn't time his takeover on the other side right. Luckily I still had enough time to save myself. I personally think it's safer to drink and drive than to text and drive.

yes i do that. i am pretty good at it though cuz i dont have ot look down at the phone while i do it. i just write what i have to and send it. it is that simple for me. i know that it is dangerous and that i shouldnt do it. but i haven't done it in a long while now. and i do not do it no more for the reason that you put up there. even though i do not look down when i txt you still are distracted when you do it. cuz you are thinking of other things. driving and thinking and txting all those things at one time is an accident on the way to happen. hope i answered your question...

I may have heard about that it sounds familiar, I dont drive, but I have family who drives and they dont text while driving becuse of course its not safe, becuse being distracted or trying to focus on typing on the keys while trying to keep your eyes on traffic is just not safe, so I think is best to text when theres nothing else to focus on Ive heard of people getting into accidents becuse they happened to be texting while driving and I feel that texting is fun but its not worth possibly getting seriously hurt or killed.

wow texting while driving that's going over board. i really don't see much wrong with be on the phone but texting that take your whole attention away form the road. well its not that shocking to hear that she got into an accident due to it. you would figure that people would know better then to do that.

I do not drive.. But I feel that texting is more dangerous then being on the phone.. There are many states that have outlawed talking on cell phones while driving, unless you are using a hands free device.. The reason why I feel texting is worst, instead of just holding your cell to your ear, you are looking down at the keypad to type a message.. that I feel is worst then talking on the cell while driving.. I do not understand why law makers have make one illegal and not the other... When they are both dangerous.. I get upset and worried when someone gets on the phone or texts while driving.. Their minds are on that stupid phone and not the road... It does not take but a second to be in a rough position that needs your total concentration to avoid an accident.. This story should be a good reminder that people need to stay focus to the road and not everything else!! Your life depends on it, the life of your passengers, and the other vehicles on the road...
