I do think its tacky as well...and I also live in florida...in keywest! I dont know where you live but I think keywest is dedicated to odd colored houses...lOl I actually live in an apartment complex and its kinda a light pinkish color...its crazy looking and I hate it but its probably better because it gets so hot here in the summers you wouldnt like anything dark!!

no colour, white windows, plain bricks, in Uk we don't paint the actual house ,but paint the door different colours. I have been to Florida and have seen some interesting design features!

Culture weighs very heavily on a person's opinion of what is tacky and what is not. Some cultures think that the muted colors which are more typical in the U.S. is "triste" which translates "sad" while the brightly colored houses are "happy". One opinion is not right and the other wrong, they are simply different. Do I have a brightly colored house? No, it is white. But I do have a "happy" security wall. :0)

I also live in Florida and don't like the bright colors. When we had our house built, the houses going up on each side of us were lt. gray/white or lt. gray/dark gray, so we decided to go with lt. beige/med beige trim. Now that our neighbors have changed to beige colors and we had to replace our roof after Hurricane Wilma, we put on a gray roof. We are now getting ready to have our house painted lt. gray/med. gray trim. I can't wait, since that's what I wanted to begin with. Most houses in our development follow the rules and use muted or pastel colors, but a few have had to repaint when they didn't ask for approval before going with their choice of color.
