I knew in kindergarden because everyone was talking about santa being fake, but when i asked my mom she told me that santa doesn't bring presents unless you believe in him so i pretended that he was real so i could keep getting presents until i was about eleven.

I was about 6 years old. My mother and father seperated and I lived with my father. He sent me to stay with some people who had 2 boys. I remember hearing sleigh bells and that jolly ho ho ho. The big guy came into through the door with a bag slung over his back. I was so excited. A look came over Santa's face that wasn't happy. He asked the mother and father of the boys who I was. I wondered why Santa didn't know my name.
The 2 boys were happy to see Santa sitting in their living room. Santa put me on his lap and asked me what my name was and what I wanted for Christmas. He then asked me to do him a big favor. He asked me to go to the kitchen and draw him a glass of water because he was very thirsty. He then told me to let the water run for a very long time before I filled the glass. He would let me know when he thought the water would be cold enough.
So I jumped off Santa's lap and skipped into the kitchen happy to do the task that Santa had requested. I pulled an old wooden chair to the front of the sink and turned on the faucet. My fingers felt the water to check to see if it was cold. It was freezing. I called out, is it ready yet? Santa said, "Not cold enough yet, let it run a little longer." I was so anxious to get back in the living room where Santa was.
While I stood at the sink I could see out the window into the dark night. It had been snowing and the white flakes danced across the darkness. The sound of sleighbells and the sound of Santa saying in his jolly voice, "Ho Ho Ho, Merry Christmas", brought me back from the daze I had been in.
I jumped from the chair, ran across the kitchen and swung the door open that led to the living room. There sat the 2 boys playing with their new toys. The mother and father were there also. I asked where Santa was and why I didn't get any gifts. They said that Santa had forgotten my gifts and would bring mine to me on Christmas Eve.
Heartbroken, I left the living room and climbed the stairs to my bedroom.

Ask me about the Easter Bunny next! That one was just funny. I think most kids really want to believe that Santa is real. When my daughter was 10 she came to me and said she wanted to tell me something, but didn't want to tell me. Of course the worse thoughts went through my head. Then she revealed that if she told me she wouldn't receive many gifts. I told her that I received gifts from Santa. Her face lit up then. I went on to tell her that if she told her siblings that would be the time for her not to receive from Santa.

I was about 9 as well. I recognized my Mom's handwriting on a present from Santa. I was pissed that I was lied to for so many years, threw the present at her (used rollerskates from when she was little) and stormed up to my room. I mean it had nothing to do with Santa - I just hated being lied too.
I have two girls, 6 and 4 and I feel sooo guilty to making them believe in Santa. I want to tell them before they find out.

I was around the same age but a different situation.. there were no gifts under the tree at all.. money was tight bills came first and what we got our mom made scarves, hats, mittens, houseshoes, and a crocheted toy which i have still to this day because i cherish it still so much..but i guess i took it pretty well, i knew my parents loved me and tried to give me atleast something from them even though it was made dad made us a sled and my brother made me a little jewerly box of popsicle sticks..I guess al long as we were happy it was ok...

I don't remember an exact year or moment. I think I doubted it when I was around 6 but played along because I enjoyed the concept of getting toys under the tree from a fat man with a beard that I didn't have to complete any weekly chores for.

I knew since day one that Santa wasn't real. Now one had to tell me that one. It was so avious because everywhere I went, there was Santa. That got me thinking that he couldn't be at many places at once, right?! I knew then, he was fake.
