According to the calendar, the first day of the week is Sunday. But to me, that is my rest day. After slogging the whole week, Saturday still being a work day, Sunday is heavenly to me. I can rest and just laze around. Come Monday, the blues are back and it's manic Monday again. People start working and all.
So what do you think? Which do you consider the first day of the week? Sunday or Monday?

Like you, I also consider Monday as the first day of the week, since it is the start of working days. It is a belief that Sunday is really the first day of the week, but in our practice, since work mostly starts on Monday, we consider it as the first day of the week. This is a good discussion. Hope you receive many responses. Happy myLotting!

Hello markmoney, here I am on MY first day of the week, Monday! I've been away for the weekend and is only back today. I'll never consider Sunday the first day of the week. I work hard during the weekdays just to enjoy my Sunday, which I consider my last day of the week! :)

Only through this discussion I've found out that Sunday is a day devoted to religion. I am not religious so was not aware of all those. Now I know, thank you very much. :)

I always consider Monday as the first day of the week because schools always start on Mondays and that's when the teachers, principals, and most parents start working. Even though some people do work on the weekends, I think most of the people have the weekends off to relax, go shop, have fun with their friends and family, and catch up on things.

I was taught from an early age that Sunday was the first day of the week. But I have always thought that Monday is a more appropriate day for the beginning of the week as daily rythms of work and school mean we usually start back on a Monday. Sunday feels more like the end of a week. A day of rest.

Yes, I was taught that Sunday is the first day of the week too. Until I felt like, hey, I start school on Monday, then when I work, I start work on Monday too... The blues are on Monday, so I let Monday have the priviledge of being hte first day of the week.

I definitely consider Monday to be the start of the week...your reasoning is the same as mine, Sunday is a day where I relax and not worry about things, but Monday is the start of new tasks for the week, its no longer relaxing. The week should be a cycle that starts with productiveness and ends with the reward of relaxation.

It's like the saying, Work Hard, Play Later. We just have to work hard first in order to enjoy our rewards later.

Also, for me, the first day of the week is Monday since I start working on Monday. And Sunday is the last day for me because it's my day of rest so it's my 7th day. It's just confusing sometimes because kids in the school are being taught that the first day of the week is Sunday. Sometimes I just forget that and when they ask me what's the first day of the week ,I would say Monday. :)

jemifer, kids are always taught Sunday is the first day of the week. Only when we reach adulthood and start working that we automatically switch to Monday as the first day of the week, and then the confusion starts.

I thought all this while that Monday is the first day of
the week since in Malaysia, we off on Sat & Sunday. Until
my son told me " Mummy, in the calendar, Sunday is the first
day".. I really got a shock..lol
Later I found out that in Jewish law Sunday is the first day
of the Hebrew calendar week. Sunday also considered first day
of the week in United States and Japan.
But in United Kingdoms, it is considered the Seventh Day of the
working week / civil week.

Even when I teach my son the 7 days of the week song, I'll start with Sunday and end with Saturday. It just has been that way for so long. It's just that we start working on Monday, making it misinterpreted as Monday being the first day of the week. Your son is smart!

I will consider Sunday is still the start of the week, but trickily Monday is the start of a working week.. :) Sometimes me too had the "blues" day while going to work on Monday, however come Friday, I will also be lazy since I know it's gonna be a weekend soon... but now, everyday is just the same as I got a new job as mummy, and whether it's anyday, the work still need to be carried out... muahahah LOL

We mothers work 24/7, 7 days a week, 365 days a year, so everyday is the same. But still the environment around us is different. Try going shopping on a weekday instead, you'll find it less crowded and chaotic compared to going out on a weekend. That will makes us realise, that we are shopping on a weekday when everyone else is working! :)

Monday is my first day of the week because like the story in the Bible, God created the world in 6 days and rested on the 7th day. So i consider Sunday as the last day and is used for relaxation or going to church to pray.Ü

Although Sunday is the first day of the week, I have been brought up recognising Monday as the first day of the week for as long as I can remember. When I was schooling, Sunday was play day and Monday is school day. When I was working, Monday has always been a blue day and Sunday, the day to relax, unwind to get ready for Monday.

Blue Monday, Garfield knows that best! I understand what you meant, I think most of us are brought up that way too. So why in the world do they say declare Sunday as the first day of the week?

It changed to Monday? Seriously? I never knew it changed formally. I just thought that since we all start work on Monday, we assume it is the first day of the week, I never knew it changed formally..

Yes, it is indeed strange! LOL.. But it's good that you've classified Monday as your first day of the week. At least there is a routine in your calendar.

According to me, the first day of the week is Monday. I always think so. Because I will study from Monday to Friday, however, I will have rest on Saturday and Sunday. So I think the first day of the week is Monday, because it means the beginning of my study.

Hello there, for me, Monday is definitely the first day of the week. Cos on Monday, I got to do all the routine things all over again, like waking up at 6 am, then wake my daughters up for school, prepare breakfast, etc..... Previously, when I was working full time from Monday to Friday, I always have Monday blues every week without fail....hahaha....Now, I am a stay home mum, but I still got Monday blue due to my daughters. Cheers =))

I always think that Monday is the 1st day of the week despite I work 5 days in a week. Sunday is a rest day for me to recharge my battery and I will always feel the Monday blues on Sunday evening. Monday is the day to kick of the new working week and most of the planning takes place on Monday. So to me, Monday is definitely the first day of the week..
