Are you a smoker? I hate smokers. Unfortunately, my Dad and my brother in laws are all smokers. I love them dearly but I hate the smoker part of them. I am fortunate as my husband is a non-smoker. I cant imagine exposing my little boy to second hand smoke day in day out!
I've seen my Dad trying to quit ages ago but failed. He is now a chain smoker. Nothing I can say or do will stop him. Smokers just have mind of their own.
Are you a smoker? If you are, have you tried to quit? If you are not, what do you think of them smokers? Let's share...

I am a smoker and I plan on quitting this year. Tried a couple of times these last months but failed miserably. Been smoking for 10 years now, I'm 24. I can't really say it affected me in one way or another. However, I hate the fact that all my clothes and my hair smell like smoke, my breath smells like an ashtray so I have to abuse mints and of course, the money wasted on it. I find it a bit hard since I associated smoking in my head with a lot of activities, such as relaxing, drinking, driving, etc. So when trying to quit, by being deprived of a smoke right in those moments, I feel like I'm being deprived of the experience altogether. I'm aware that it's all in my head, but that's my biggest obstacle.
That being said, I hate the fact that smokers are getting cornered like they are and the fact that taxes keep increasing all over the world. Eventually contraband will flourish because of the high prices and makes room for yet more jobs for organized crime. Even after quitting, I will still oppose the smoking ban that seems to be the latest trend in the world today and the ever increasing taxes.

I am keeping my fingers cross that you'll succeed in quitting this year. You've been smoking since 14. That's very young! But it is good that you realise you dont like the smell and is intending to quit. I do hope you'll succeed and do drop me a line if you do. Stay strong and keep focus! Good luck.

Thank you. I don't regret the act of smoking itself. It was an experience and I believe people should experience many different things during their lifetime. I only regret starting so early and all the money I've spent on it. Starting so young stopped my growth. My mother is pretty short, my father is a bit taller but still average to short and I was beginning to grow taller than he was, still had years to go. But then I started smoking and stopped. I'll be sure to tell you when I'm done with it!

I'm not but my husband is..sad but nothing much I could do about it! As you said, theiy have a mind of their own so..they got to decide what's good for them and people around them. My dad, was a chain smoker, and at the age of 54, he had heart-attack. He was admitted in ICU for 2 weeks, and didn't smoke at all. When he was out of hospital after 6 weeks, he quit 100%! Though he had some cranky mood, but he had thw WILL!!!

Congratulations to your Dad! I was afraid to go on reading and I thought you might say that he resume smoking once discharged from hospital. So glad that he is 100% out now! Keep it that way, keep on supporting him.

I am a smoker and I hate smoking and I say to anyone I know that smoking is the worse habbit ever. I have never tried to quit smoking as smoking is a hobby for me. Weird hobby, ah? Actually I smoke only in work when circumstances allow it, as the banning is in session from now on. I don't smoke at home, my parents either and I can stay up as more than 15 days without smoking. But when I am at work... I surely smoke

So you are a social smoker? You hate smoking but you smoke. Interesting. I have a few friends who are social smoker themselves. I just hope that you wont get yourself into chain smoking as it is really bad for health.

It's not just bad for the smoker's health. It is worst for the others surrounding the smoker. Really, please, if someone is thinking about starting smoking, the best thing to do is to forget about it.

I am a smoker and I know it is a bad habit but it is my habit. I started because my dad is a smoker. I have never tried to quit as I have found it really hard with going without a smoke for a few hours. I need to have that nicotine. My mom is a non smoker and she tells my dad and I to quit but realistically you can't tell someone to quit anything. It only entices them more to do it. So if the person is not ready to quit just leave them be. That's really all you can do.

Not everyone with get addicted to smoking. Even if they only do it once. It depends on the person and if they like it.

Yes, nicholejade. I understand what you meant. I've seen my Dad struggling last time trying to quit. He failed. It's additive. My message here is, for those who have not light up before, dont do it out of curiousity. It will stick with you from the very first light...

submerryn, I used to smoke before I realised I was carrying Princess... but I am not someone with chain smoking... I smoke when I am stressed up, or when I am sitting with my bunch of smoking friends (in the back of mind, why me to keep taking in the 2nd hand smoke, let them have some too) LOL.... Anyway, to quit for me is easy, I just got to know I got the little baby inside, I quit my smoking habit till now... How great is mummy ya LOL... so, if anyone ask me how to quit, I told them, get pregnant! LOL

I think everyone deserves to do what they want to do with their lives and after all it is their lives that we are talking about here. However, when they affect the lives of others through their action, then it's another story all together. I could not care less if the smoke and pay the consequences for taking those puffs but I absolutely detest those who are inconsiderate and start puffing away in public places, restaurants, lifts, office and even the toilet making you smell like a chimmy the moment you walk out. Smoke all you want but leave me out from the equation and I will leave you alone...hahaha

Yes, i am a smoker and i would like to stop this soon. Yes, you're lucky because your hubby isn't one of them. In our case though, I am the only one who is smoking in the immediate family, but my uncle is. Also, my boyfriend is a smoker but he just smokes occasionally.
I tried several times to quit, I quit when I got pregnant tho but my addiction came back when my kid is about few months older.

I used to smoke, but quit 4 years ago. It was the hardest thing that I've ever done--much harder than losing weight. Only someone who has smoked can understand how hard it is to quit. It is certainly an addiction, not a habit. I would certainly encourage a smoker to quit, if possible, but would not blame them if they aren't successful. Sometimes it takes several tries before a person is able to completely quit for good.

I'm coming from a non-smoker family. Both side of my family relatives, only my 4th uncle is smoking, but he is slowly quitting it now due to sickness. I hate smokers and also hate those 2nd hand smoke. I will always stay away from them.
Even the government is encouraging a more healthy lifestlye and asking smoker to quit by printing those ugly sickness picture on the ciggy box, but I don't think this can scare them off yet, unlike if their own life get threaten.
My brother once told me, since those ciggy box with ugly pic on, there were smokers even request to choose which design they want when purchasing ciggrattes, so that they don't feel too uncomfortable when holding it.
I believe if a smoker determine to quit, they sure can do it even he/she is an addictive smoker. My ex-co having lots of young female smokers than the male one..it is such a unhealthy scene.

I am not hateful all the time. Only in this post. So sorry if I've offended you or any other smokers out there. I dont mean to start a war! Maybe my phrase of "I hate smokers" is too harsh. But I mean it, I just don't like smokers and I believe there are many others like me out there. But that doesnt mean that I'll distance myself away from them. I dont hate them in general, I just dislike the smoking part of them.

I don't smoke at all. As well as you, I also hate the smoking. I am glad that my dad already got rid of it several years ago. Now nobody at my home smokes. That's nice. As I really think the smoking smells bad and it's harmful for the health.
I love China

I am glad you dont smoke. I am glad your household is smoke free. Keep it up and keep it that way for as long as you can. We non smokers think the smoking is real bad, but for smokers, that is their life. You'll never know how hard it is to quit until you become a smoker yourself.
