There is one family of my student is quite radical about television. They don't allow TV in their house. For years, they live without tv. When I ask them how do they feel about it, they just say that they are just alright without tv. They find news from newspapers, magazines, or radio. And they are not even worry about their children will go out-of-date with new events that happens around them. Yes, their children don't know anything about popular TV cartoon or something like that, but that's not make them ashamed with it. For me, I think I am not ready for that action. Just not ready because I a lot of time, I kill my time with the television. How about you?

My answer to those that seek to separate from anything in their soceity. The amish have done just that, if you wish to completely separate from anything and everything in society, how will you ever change or affect anything in it for the better.

I think I could actually spend a year without televsion. I do other things to occupy my time and sometimes TV can distract me from doing something that really needs to be done. I could get a lot more done if I don't have the television on

I wouldn't. While it is true that I don't normally watch a lot of television, I think that it's a good way to relax at home with my family. Also, as far as children are concerned, I do think that there is a lot of material on television that is inappropriate for them, but I think that's it's the job of the parent to monitor the viewing habits of young children, and to make sure that they are watching appropriate programs. As a matter of fact, I think watching television together is a way for families with children to spend time togehter.

Well you can restrict the number of hour you spend for watching TV.. But I don't think it is practical to take TV completely out of your life. You can stop being addicted to some shows.. likewise..But there are some programs or events (like the world cup) that you can never afford to miss no matter what! You should be knowing and aware of things happening round the world.. there are some things that you won't get from printed media.. So all in all taking TV out of your life forever is not the best idea...Gud question, thnx!

i miss the old days where i am still in college. i miss my parents couch hahahaha.. when there was no school, i just bum myself in our living room and watch tv all day.

Yup, I have a friend who allows the use of the tv for news only. For entertainment, his son is allowed to watch cartoons from DVDs that he bought specially. This means the general stream of TV programs (movies, shows & etc) are not allowed in the house.
I think I'm ok without tv too, especially the choice of programs the local stations broadcast is really . I can always watch movies from Dvds and the internet. As for news, I always get it from the internet, which is updated and usually unbiased.

I honestly do not think I can live without television. I love watching movies on tv because it cuts the hassle of lining up and buying food just so you can have a good time in the movie house. Unlike when you watch at home you can just simply pause the movie you are watching if you feel like going to the bathroom or if you want to get some more food or drinks there is no hassle to it. I think watching television with moderation is okay it saves you the time and effort.

no way jose! if anyone will take tv out of my life they'd have to fight for it! tv is part of my culture dude! it's like, in this modern times, it's a necessity to have at least one tv at home. so i could make a very good guess that they don't have a computer either? i think that is too extreme! are you sure they can afford a tv? or they're just making excuses because they can't buy one? just joking man! well, i think if they're a little concerned that their children might be influenced with what they watch on tv, they could have just supervised them when they are watching. instead of going to extremes like having no tv at home! that's unbelievable!

I think I can. Ever since the internet has been able to put videos, episodes, movies, and whatever. Cable isn't needed anymore. Well I guess if you want to see things LIVE, and see the latest episodes on the spot. I myself have a TV, for games and movies. But I have no cable, since I'm only 16 I can't decide whether to have cable or not (thanks to parents). I had cable before and it was quite enjoyable. But I have moved to a new house for a few months, and we didn't buy cable. As of now, I think I can live without it. As I think about it though, I do crave for. It's a great way to let time pass by..

I've threatened to chuck the tv out the door before as the kids tend to focus so much on the tv & ignore the world around them. When hubby is at work I limit their tv time in summer so they are not glued to it all day.
Honestly I enjoy having time without the "idiot box" being on. Nice to see the kids do something other than zone out in front of the tv and alot of what's on is repitition anyways.

Hello!
I think I could go without Tv just for a little while . I would need to catch up on my soaps. I would say I watch maybe a total of 20 hrs a week and that is pretty good I think LOL. I suppose if you are used to something it is easy , and I guess it is easy for that family . All Tv is not bad if that is the reason they wont watch it , and that is a shame . They have good shows that can teach and all .

i can live without TV as long as i have a computer and an internet connection. surfing is more entertaining than watching TV and besides most of the shows seen on TV can also be seen on the internet. with that, i can probably take TV out of my life.

I have a sneaking admiration for that family since much of television is absolute rubbish which deadens your brain. I could live without television for a little while but certainly not without my internet. If my ISP goes down for any length of time I start to suffer from withdrawal symptoms. Most current news I could pick up from the radio or from the newspapers and if I felt sneaky I could catch up on a lot of TV via internet downloads!
