It is very true to me... My dog just died couple hours ago... She is almost 14 years old... pretty much lives the long life...
She was having a problem with her spin, cannot walk... we put her at the hospital for couple days and see if anything will do for her but unfortunately the vet told us it is the best they could do... we don't want to see her suffer anymore so we decided to...
She passed peacefully, I hope she can go to the heaven and be happy...
I miss her so much... she is just like one of our sister in the family, had lived with us for so many years... it is really sorrowful to need to let go and not be able to see her again...
I hate to have know that pets don't live as long as we do and they will eventually leave you... it is really sad...

Sorry you have been traumatized by this. But it is just normal. Animals live in a certain period of time. We have fishes at home and they are so vulnerable. They die unexpectedly even if you change your water for so long, some can adjust, the others, you cannot tell how they die.
Dogs and cats live longer than any other animals like rabbits and hamsters. Anyway, if you cannot go pet anymore, buy a stuff toy just kidding. They won't interact for sure.

First of all my empathy goes out to you at this time of grief. My childhood dog passed away around 12 months ago under similiar circumstances (disease, she couldn't walk, was in so much pain). The vet came over to our house to end her suffering as we wanted her to feel safe in her home surrounded by people who loved her. My family loved her so much and they actually called her my sister. My mother and grandmother loved to spoil her buying her treats, taking her for car rides (she absoulutely loved rides in the car, she would pick up her soft toy and bark when it was time to go for one) ect.. Pets are amazing and the unconditional love they give is much more than we could ever give them.
Here is a poem that I was given that is really sweet. Since the author is unknown I should be allowed to post it here.

I'm sorry to hear about your dog! Try to remember all the years you had with her and cherish those good times. You did the right thing by not wanting her to suffer. It's really hard to let a pet go when you have had them as long as you did! Hugs!

Yes... it is really hurt to have to do that... I think we made a good decision, I try to think of this way - she is just sleeping peacefully forever...

Oh, I am so sorry to hear about your loss Ivy... Eversince my childhood days, we had lost a few pets already and each loss brought tears to my eyes. I remember once we had a beautiful puppy, very active and playful. One day during feeding time, I couldn't find him. I went to the backyard and there he was inside a hole he just dug. When I called his name, he looked up. When he came out, he was very weak and looked at us with a sad face. It was heartbreaking and we brought him to the vet. We left him there and never thought that it was the last time we've ever seen him. When the vet called and informed us, everybody was crying because he didn't survive the surgery.*sobs* I always remember him even though we have new pets...:)

I'm sorry for your loss
I love having pets - they are great company, provide companionship, for some people also provide them with something to do...a meaning for life.
However on the downside pets tend to be very expensive to care for with vet bills and food, bad things happen - they get sick or die or even get lost and the hurt from loosing them is hard.
I wouldnt give up my pets though - but i admit having another pet replace a pet that has passed on is VERY HARD. I had 3 cats 2 years ago - now have 2 tame cats the third passed away at christmas a couple years ago. I havent gotten a third cat since. There some wild kittens outside now we've been having a blast trying to capture them and they are sooooooo cute. But I'm not ready for a new indoor kitty.

I have four pets at my home and recently lost one so I feel your pain. I am very sorry for your loss. Just last night I was sitting in the lounge room watching my cats sitting by the fire; they make me feel so relaxed and happy and that is how I was feeling until the shadow came, I thought about the day when they will have to go to Rainbow Bridge and my heart sank. I love owning pets; I just wish their life span was a bit longer!
Again, sorry for your loss and remember you did the very best you could do for your dog.
Take care...

Yes I understand that friend. Life must go on, we must learn to accept that all lives would really ends. We just don't know when will be our time.
In the case of our pet animals, like you I am also a pet lover, we must understand that sooner or later our beloved pets would be gone. Well it is up to you if you would not look for replacement of your dog who had passed away. If you won't then you, you can't avoid to remember him always but if you have another one you can easily forget as time goes by...I hope you got what I mean...cheer up..
