Octomom on Fox

I watched the two hour 'special' on Octomom (Naydia Sulieman) last night, and came away with a mixture of sadness for the children, and disgust for the mother. Throughout, she kept making excuses for what she did, and only at the end of the program did she say, "Okay, I did it, I made a mistake, and I'm owning it." Trouble is, if she's owning her mistake, why is she relying on Taxpayers to fund her lifestyle? I cannot believe Family Services haven't taken these children away from her yet. My heart went out to the older children, who seemed unhappy and in some cases, disturbed, particularily one boy who looked autistic. The younger children were undisciplined, with one boy kicking one of the babies on the ground, then slapping and calling his mother a b****. I feel sorry for the grandmother, who at one point tells Naydia, "Where are the blankets? Where are the cribs?" I only saw one crib, and it was empty. Throughout the program, you see the babies either on a king size bed, or on the floor. Naydia's father makes one appearance, toward the end of the program, and he said he would 'fight the government' if he had to if someone tried to take any of the children away from his daughter. Nice try, Pops. I have seen this before, in my own family. I had an aunt with four children, who lived on welfare for years. Now her children are living on welfare. Surprise, surprise. She, too, didn't believe in using cribs, and her kids usually slept on the floor as well. It's my opinion this Naydia is mentally disturbed, just as my aunt is mentally disturbed (Munchausen Syndrome). These women usually have a medical background (Nurse, CNA, etc.) I just hope all turns out well for these kids.

I am actually watching the show right now. I have to say that it is sad because they just don't get the attention that they need, even with all of the nannies and such. Most of them are horribly behaved and it is quite apparent that she has no idea how to discipline and give them then attention that they need. The two year old who has bitten his older brother and who is seen kicking the babies, hitting his mother, and calling her bad names several times really needs some help and some one on time attention. More then she could ever provide.
She says over and over that she doesn't want the attention, but it seems that she loves it. It is sad, but these kids will probably be in the media a lot.
I don't know how much tax payers will be paying for them since she is obviously making a lot of money from putting the kids into the lime light.
She says, "anytime that someone says that if they need to be put in foster care is just looking for publicity". That seems crazy to me since her kids obviously need help.

I didn't watch because because I don't think its right to have all these kids in front of cameras with a mother who is certainly mentally ill. These poor kids are in trouble and I can't believe anyone would permit such a show to be aired on TV. I saw a clip on ShowBix Tonight where she is saying she made a mistake. You and your doctor made a mistake. The doctor should never had allowed this when he knew she already had 6 kids, no job, no husband. Now the grandfather is going to fight the government if they try to take the kids away. Give me a break. Even with the grandparents help she would not be able to do right by all 14 kids. Its abuse as far as I'm concerned and she should do the right thing and give them to people who can take care of them. Even if they have to be separated. I think the kids have a better chance at a normal life then staying with this crazy sick person.

While I don't agree with a single mom having so many kids and intentionally having the big batch she just had, I also think that ppl are aiming a lot of anger at this woman. Afterall, she isn't the only woman with a gaggle of kids sitting on Welfare having taxpayers pay her way and these aren't the only kids not to have all kinds of cribs and stuff. Also if Family Services took the kids of every parent that couldn't afford or handle their kids, the country would be overrun with foster kids. I think this woman and her kids have been forced into the public eye, by her have the octo babies, and I really think that they need to just be left alone to get on with their lives.

One of her boys kicked one of the new babies?! That alone should be enough to rescue those poor children--all of them!
I wondered how they were doing and now I'm sorry I found out. And can you imagine when they're older if they see their mom calling them "a mistake"?! Poor babies.

I had a cousin that clobbered his baby sister with a shoe, he climbed up into the crib to do it-He messed up her eye, and broke a bone in her foot. Years later he shoots a guy in the back, killing him, and winds up in federal prison (he was in the military).
They were going to arrest my uncle and aunt for child abuse, when the cousin admitted he did it. One of the babies looked to me like he/she was retarded, but not with down's syndrome, though-she held them up at the end like they were stuffed animals, and even messed up one of the names. The camera panned out at one point, and you could hear the kids/babies howling, it was that loud. Just a sad, sad situation all around. Hope the woman saves back some of the money she got from this show, I know Gloria Allred, the celebrity attorney is trying to force her to make trust funds for the babies. She even had a camera woman in the delivery room, and the nurses and doctors were shouting at her to get out. I remember reading they had to have several teams of doctors/nurses just to prepare for the birth of these octoplets. Do you know there's woman pregnant now with 12 embryos? I don't believe it!!!

I just read that the 12-baby pregnancy is a hoax, thank God! I've had enough of multiple births--if it's not naturally multiple, it shouldn't happen. In my opinion, of course.

I missed it. However I'm not sure if I would've watched it anyway. I think one news program I saw a few months back said a couple of the previous six kids have developmental disorders. I'm not positive though. It is very unsafe for babies to sleep on a bed. They should be in cribs. Personally I want to know how a woman on welfare can afford IVF. People said she won a lawsuit or something. Wouldn't she have to pay back the state for welfare fraud since she had money. Why isn't the state going after her? I believe she has been investigated already by Child Protective Services. One of her kids had an unexplained bite mark. It was unfounded because it was deemed that the bite mark was from one of the other kids. I feel bad for that Grandma. You know she is going to get stuck taking care of everything.
I too am sad for the children and disgusted with the mother. She only thinks about herself. Otherwise she wouldn't have had so many embryos implanted.

I didn't watch the special but I know I would have felt the same way you do had I watched it. Mainly because she disgusts me in general. I hate seeing her on all these magazines and the center of attention. She doesn't deserve to have these kids and I thoroughly believe they shouldn't be under her care.

At the risk of angering other mylotters, I'm going to have to take the opposing point of view.
I also watched the special and I came away from it with a very different opinion than yours. I was suprised that she was NOT as flaky and idiotic as I had expecter her to be. She was not the "nutjob" that the media had been and our society has been making her out to be.
I do agree that she used poor judgement in her decision to have more children when she wasn't even able to properly care for the ones she already had. But, she's not alone in the world when it comes to poor judgement.
As for her childrens care...She has help. That was shown on the show. I don't know how much the government is giving her. I have not seen that documented anywhere. But she must be making some money from the documentary and from the interviews she's done.
I would be interested to find out how much she's made on her own and how much she is receiving from the government.
Regardless of what the answer to that is, I don't think she is doing a bad job with her children. No, her children's behavior isn't ideal. Most children's behavior isn't idea. I know my children aren't perfect little angel's and I only have TWO!
I have a friend who has 4 kids...They have their "out of control" moments too. That doesn't mean child services should take them away from their mom!
I think people really need to lay off of this poor woman.
Yes, she made a mistake. So now we are going to crucify her for it? That's pretty harsh.
I thought we were put here on this earth to help eachother out, not to judge eachother.

I didn't see that special on her, but from what I have read and seen about her, I agree with you. She just seems extremely irresponsible, and if you ask me, immoral. It also annoys me that they are giving her a show (last I heard that was going to happen, but I could be wrong...) because I feel like that's rewarding her for making bad decisions. She is really a figure I have no sympathy for and absolutely no respect for. I just hope for her kids to not end up as nuts as her.
