Where do you get your pet's name?

I'd often got a name for my pet from my favorite cartoon characters, like Tom and Jerry, Tweety and Winnie the Pooh. Sometimes I combine those names and come up with tweety tom, pooh rhay or just pooh-pooh. When my pet died and have a new one, I just use the same name.
How about you, does giving a nice name matter to you? where you do get their names?
Have a great day!

well, used to be I kind of let names come to me, but lately I haven't been really willing to work too hard on them, well, I have a LOT of names to deal with... There was a show on called Farscape, lately we've been mining it for names. 4 and a half yrs ago we rescued a cat & her kittens, one reminded the roomie of one of the characters, Rygel - so even tho its spelled differently, its said the same as the star - Rigel - so we named the rest of the litter after stellar objects and found homes for them and the mom, but kept Rygel. The 2 latest cats have then been also named from the show, Zhaan and Jool. We also went thru a Doctor Who companion phase, with Rose and Capt. Jack, they were both rehomed. I then got this Siamese that was supposed to be Rose's brother, but he had a big stitched cut down his shoulder, that the sutures should've been out 2 weeks earlier so we named him Frankenkitty - Frankie for short. When we finally learned his name had previously been Feno, well, we kept Frankie because we decided he needed a new name for his new life.
So, here's a list of the current cats names: Sassy, Scamp, Shooting Star - Star, Rio, Timus, Taj, Chevron - Ronnie, Gabrielle - Gabby, Gizmo, Ping & Pong, Solo, Rygel, Oliver, Booboo, Chalube. Kit, Rock Star - Roxie, Tuti and Nefer, Frankenkitty - Frankie, Antonio - Tony, Zhaan, Blossom, Flower, Brat, Jumper, Scoot (a/k/a Thing One and Thing Two) and Jool, more or less in age order

Oh, those real cute names. I'll recommend it to some of my friends. They have those different kind of breeding of cats. And sometimes, they asked my suggestions on naming their cats and this time I could give them those list that you've mentioned. Thanks for sharing with us and have a great day!

in some cases, like Ping and Pong, they had a Siamese sister who I named after a Chinese co-worker, she found a home (the kitten, not the co-worker) but we kept the boys, we named them after the game that opened up Red China - because the pair of them were hard to tell apart - still are, both yellow fellows... Blossom got her name because Flower came with her's and I'm just NOT going to work that hard for names

Our cat had her name when we picked her at the humane society. Her name was ButterScotch. It fits her since she's orange and white.

That's nice name. Kids would surely love it. It's like candy. I haven't tried giving names to my pet through their colors. But my older brother often do. His dog names blacky and brownies. A black and brown dogs.

I have a four year old boy kitty named Baby BJ. The way that it went was, my neighbor had a cat that had kittens and my daughter picked out a kitten she would like. We still had to wait for the kitten to be ready to come to our house. In that time my daughter went away for a week and that is when the kitten was ready to come here. So I took him without my daughter home. He stayed with me for days on end and I was up all night long with him like a newborn. He was spunky and wild like the lion in the book I was reading at the time. It was the Earth Children Series by Jean Auel. In the book the girl calls her pet lion Baby. I would go around and call him Baby. When my daughter came home she was allowed to pick out his name which she wanted BJ after Billy Joe Armstrong from Green Day. So it was planned to be BJ but I still kept calling him Baby, so it ended up being Baby BJ. That is his official name at the veterinarian's office too.
But to be honest, he is still just Baby. LOL

Your response makes me laugh:-) Like you're secretly fighting your kid just for the name of your pet. It's kinda amazing on how you really put value on giving names of your kitty. Because I actually do the same thing. When I was a kid, I have a little cute kitten, my mom want to call her ming-ming, but I want to call her pooh-pooh. I did insist on calling her that name, and gladly I won.LOL

That's great, giving names through famous leaders and warriors makes people keep up with the history. And makes your pet seems like mighty and powerful.

Hello, the last cat I had was named to go along with the previous cat. Lily was the previous cats name so I chose Calla for the last one. A callalily is my favorite flower so I named 2 of my cats Calla and Lily. Before those 2 I usually chose human name like Talor,Elliott, and Nelson.

Calla and Lily seems real appropriate name of your cat. I don't really like naming my pet with human names. Because I consider them very dear and special, so I would likely choose a very special and cute names.

i had a cat named kitty about 3 years ago, the apartment i lived in burned to the ground with him in it :( so when i got my new kitten, i named her kitty in memory of the baby boy i lost. on a lighter note, another cat i had was named milo from the kids movie milo and otis. i absolutly love that movie! the idea was to get a pug and name it otis..but it never happend. then i had a cat named scruffy, funny story, me and my friends were drunk riding around one night. my friend aaron was passed out cold in the back seat, then out of nowhere he wakes up, yells scruffy! and passes right back out..i got the cat a week later and named him scruffy because it was just so funny that he woke up yelled scruffy and went back to sleep. i've had so many other cats with interesting names but i dont think i have the space to tell ya'll about all of them. i love kitties!!! :)

I asked mylotters for names when i first got my bobtail cats. I got so many good names, that i finally just had to pick two of them: Jack and Jill. Jack is the one on the right, with the white shoulders.

yeah. i like giving my pets cool names. they r like my kids. if i had kids, i would give them cool names too.
i just stare at the face and observe their personality until a name comes up that fits them. some of my late pets include leloubelle, dibbuleo, and tinalouise, and my current cat is gumby-d'arcy.

Sometimes we get their names from their coloring and sometimes from their behavior. Cocoe and Panther got their names for their coloring and Precious and Sweetums for their behavior.

My cat name was cherry I named her like that because she did look like a cherry, nice sweet and lovely, now my daugther has a dog named Africa I chose the name because she is brown and soft like the sands and the country side rugged but smooth and there is that fareaway look on her face that talks of endless plains and far horizons. I only have 1 grandson so we call our pets my grandpets
and we have a cat [ that is my daugther] we call her Kitten why? she is a rare breed and she is tiny, very playful, so she is our kitten.

Hi Caregauraden
I got my cats name JINX from the Pixie and Dixie cartoon I always liked them it was and still is one of my favorites, "I hate meeses to peices" ! I would watch that everyday when I came home from school. I think picking a name for your cat or any pet should be something that you really like after all the cat is going to have that name for a very long time.

Hi! We name our pets based on their looks/characteristics:) Like for example, our landlady's very old cat would suddenly perform a seizure like he's been electrocuted or something so we call him "kirig" which means 'seizure'. He's not really a sick cat. It's just that he's really very old and when he gets to clean his back he can't seem to reach it or pull back his teeth so he gets to "kirig" when he does it. LOL! Another cat, we name as "gwapa" which means 'pretty' coz she really is a pretty cat!:) After a few months we called her "gwaming", a combination of "gwapa", "mama" (which means 'mother'), and "miming" (which is a slang for 'cat' in our dialect) since we soon found out that she's like the mother of almost every cat in our neighborhood. LOL! We also had a cat before that we called Garfield because she had big bulging eyes just like that of garfield's. She was semi blind since she was a kitten -- her eyes got infected by rheum:( Lastly, we had a dog before whom we called "Tara" (short for cheetara) because her color was like that of a cheetah:)

You've got one-of-a-kind idea. It must be taken time to come up with a name. It's good when you name it by their behavior, so when people know their name, they know how to treat your pet.

I usually name my pets after my favourite movie/cartoon characters. I once had a Rottweiler mix called Neo he was so huge, he was even heavier than I was. One of my dogs now is named after Trinity, I call her Trini for short.I had a puppy who always had 1 ear pointed up and the other down, the name Radar came to me, he seemed to like the name, anyway. I sometime name my pets after famous people as well, like Che, who is my 4-month-old cat

Me I name them with their color, when they are orange cats I named them garfield or just plain orange, when they are tiger, I named them tiger. I have one cat name Lionel, because he looks like Lionel Richie. I also named my cats with famous celebrity here in the Philippines. I named them with where was the place I have found them like old school like Pio del Pilar, if the stray cat is a guy I will call him Pio and Pia if it is a girl.

I got my pet's name from a cartoon as well. Back then, the Rugrats were really popular, and it was around that time when I saw the episode of Tommy getting a little brother called Dil, so we called out puppy Dill. Then we realized that Dill was in fact a girl and not a boy, so we made her name Dillie, though we still mostly call her Dill! Our late Labrador Retriever was named after a cartoon character as well, Lilo.

We adopted both of our cats from local animal shelters and they already had names when we got them. We changed the name of one of them though. His name was Commodore and we decided that the name sounded too stuffy and formal for him, so we changed his name to Comet. The name is much more fitting for him. He is only 2 yrs. old and very active--always getting in trouble

My cat is named Parsnip - I;m not sure why a black cat is named after a yellow root vegetable, except we looked up names online, that came up and my husband and I thought it was cute!
She also answers to Nip, Nippy, Snippy, the Nip, the Snipster, Snip, or if shes in trouble, Mewbag.
She is glaring at me as I type....!
