How often do you start discussions?

I haven't thought of many interesting discussions lately, so some days I start no discussions. On days when I DO start discussions, I only make one or two.
So I was wondering how often other mylotters start discussions. On your average day, how many discussions do you start?

Well Data, I never thought you would be at a loss for words. Anyway, it is not necessary that you start discussions every day or even that you sart a lot of discussions. The important thing is to participate by commenting on others discussions and responding to the comments others make on yours. Having a debate or conversation is what mylot is all about.

I am only impersonating Data...
I like responding to discussions more, so I think I'll just stop starting discussions for a while. I just try to start more discussions so I can earn a bit more...

I start no more than 4 in a month.
It is not enough just to post a topic. That is not a discussion.
If it receives responses it is then necessary to go back and comment on them and try and engage others so that it turns into an interesting discussion. That is what we earn for. We do not earn for the responses a discussion receives because we earn for our own activity, not that of others so to make a dicussion earn for us we must return and comment.
As I cannot always be here to comment on responses I prefer not to start many.

We both earn well with this approach. It is sometimes hard for people to accept that starting tons of random discussions is not how we earn. Interacting is the key to earning.

I notice that we can get discussions started inside a response box and that becomes a discussion inside the main discussion. As long as it remains on topic that earns well too.
As you say it's all about interaction -
but some just don't want to understand

I didn't know commenting to the responses was so important! I just thought that it was optional to make the comments... Just for a little extra money and for fun...

I don't like starting discussions it's to confining! then you have to comment to all the responders! It's the same topic over and over and over! So I do responses only. This way I can pick various topic of my choosing! I may start one every 3 or 4 weeks! Newbies always think they have to start discussions to make money and that's not true! tdemex

*Gasp* Who says commenting to the responders is a bad thing!? But don't you think that there need to be people who start lots of discussions, just to make the mylot world go 'round?

Have you ever got 60 or 70 responses? I didn't think so! Been there! It sucks, to me anyway! This is my point! Replying to 70 responses and then they put questions in them on top of that! All on one topic! tdemex

Only 15 discussions in 8 months? But you seem to respond to more discussions than I do, lol. I barely respond to 10 discussions every day...

hi merlinsorca,
i am new to mylot but i want to post at least one discussion a week so that i will not have difficulty in replying back just in case there will be more responses. i want to make sure that i acknowledge their responses to my discussions.
some of the discussions that i have in mind were already posted so i need to be innovative enough to think of unique but "catchy" topic so that it can attract attention and responses. the highest responses that i got is 18. so, i am hoping and looking forward that i will make it soon....to start a new topic and get more responses.
have a great day with mylot!

i will try this once a week new discussion for the year 2010. that's very ideal but it frustrates me knowing that the topics i have in mind are already posted here so i just respond and make it sure that i was able to share my views---what's coming form my heart!

Hi, msfrancisco
It is good to start one discussion every week so there won't be too many comments you have to make, but you are also getting some money from the discussion. We always try to think of a unique discussion but sometimes it gets too hard and I don't post discussions then. . .

Hi, I also usually do the same, sometimes I rarely start discussions but I will also try to make a few when I see that I haven't made many. Most of the time I just make responses to other discussions and sometimes I get ideas from other discussions. . .

The consistency would depend of the mood that I have. Sometimes I feel like having new discussions and sometimes I really dont like making new ones. It would also depend on my expereinces and the feelings I have. There are times that I feel like sharing it on mylot.

I feel the same way; the amount of discussions I start usually depends on my mood. Sometimes I feel very lazy and I don't want to make discussions, but other times I feel like I have a lot to share so I might start a few.
And I know I made this comment months after you responded but at least I replied to you, even though it is very late.

Hi, sorry for taking so long to respond to you but anyway. . .
That is about the same amount of discussions I start; about six every month. I know what you mean, responding to discussions is easier and it is less work because in your discussion you have to comment back on every response. It takes up a lot of time. . .

hi merlinsorca hey is that or isnt that Data? okay back to
my response. I have learned the hard way that if one makes
too many discussions at one time, you will get soooo behind it's
pathetic. so now maybe I start one or two and keep up with
them and otherwise am responding to all my friends discussions
instead. I like to make discussions but hate to make my friends'
wait for my comments on their responses. So I have toned it
down to one or two and on some days I dont make any, that
way I can keep up with things.

Hi, sorry for taking so long to reply to you, hehe. That is Data, the picture of him shrunk and now it looks bad, lol.
I do think that's true, how starting too many discussions will make it harder to actually respond to all of them. Like this one, it takes me 4 months to actually come back and comment here. So just recently I have stopped making too many new discussions, and started to look to the past and finish up on my older discussions.

This is a good question which I would like to write about. I am a discussion starter and my target is to start atleast three discussions per day (not weekends)and respond to ten discussions per day. Since I start discussions, I also spend time to comment back on the responses I get. I don't think that getting many responses to a discussion make a change in our earnings.

Interesting, I don't think I could manage three discussions every day, hehe. There isn't enough time for me to comment on everyone, so I usually try not to make too many discussions.
Well, I realized that I had many old discussions that I didn't comment on (this is one of those discussions) and so I've come here and starting commenting. . . I know I'm a few months late but at least I'm doing it.

I seldom start up any discussions because I've never think of anything to attract people to participate in or any topics which I'm interested in knowing the opinions of others. I did started up some discussions when I first joined myLot, which was months back and response wasn't as good as I expected and those feedback I received were either making no senses or out of point. so from then on, I don't see the need to start up any discussions but I'll instead look for some interesting discussions here to participate in.

I know that this is very late to be commenting to you but anyway. . .
I don't think that you should quit starting discussions just because some of them didn't receive many good responses. Just because some of them were confusing doesn't mean every response you get will be confusing. But I agree with you, I think responding to interesting discussions is a lot more fun.

Yes, it always depends on what you're feeling at the moment. Sometimes I don't feel like I could start discussions because it is too hard - these days I just go and post responses. But sometimes I have a lot of good ideas so I will start a discussion for that day.
Sorry for taking so long to respond to you. . .

Yes, it really is hard sometimes to think of a good discussion. When I think of something, I usually plan to start that discussion the next day but then I forget it. So there are times when I start very few discussions. . .

Well sometimes I do both, very often and very rarely too. There are some months when I start a lot of discussions and other months when I do not start many because I cannot think of anything good to write.

I really don't start discussions at all, but might get back into discussion starting soon. At least there is the free-for-all weekend discussions I host (almost) every weekend. I'm returning from hiatus and all, but yes its usually a weekly thing.
Last time I was here, my discussions rarely got responses for multiple reasons. I'll link a few as an example.

Hi, sorry for taking so long to respond to you. . .
I also feel the same way, because I do not start many discussions. But then again, I also think when I haven't started many recently that I need to make some new ones because I can't just live on writing responses.

I don't start all that many, as I have a hard time coming up with a topcii that everyone will be interested in responding to. I can respond pretty easily, but coming up with a discussion is another matter all together. It takes a lot mor thinking power to start discussions. I would just rather rspond anyway, as that works better for me and I am earning from just doing that. Good luck to you and happy mylotting.

I understand what you mean, sometimes it is just too hard to start a discussion and then keep it going with all the comments, hehe. I just try to start a discussion about something that I have thought of during the day, but I usually start it much later. . .

The same feeling with you, I have no any discussion today untill I saw your post. In the recent three weeks, I always post 3 dicusssions a day from mondays to fridays. Today, there's a traditional trade fair in our city and there will be a big part tonight. I will go out with my wife to attend the party.

3 discussions a day? That is a lot, I usually cannot start so many. You have to make a lot of comments to everyone so I try to avoid having too much. Sometimes it gets too hard and I don't have enough time to manage my discussion.

Hi merlin,
I have very few started discussions, I only start one when I can think of something that will interest myLotters, or something I want to share and I need the opinions of you guys. Otherwise, I'm better off responding to others' discussions.

Hello, I know I am very late in responding to you but I will anyway.
I know what you mean, sometimes I have a discussion idea but then I think that not many people are interested - but I will still start it. I have made some discussions that very few people actually can respond to but in the end I still start it. It is easier to respond that to start a discussion in my opinion.

I only start discussions when i have something I want to share with my fellow mylotters... I do not follow a definite schedule or set it as a goal or soemthing like that,,,
I actually enjoy it better whn I am responding to others' discussions...
there are days I start two discussions...then there is a time I don't start a discussion for over a week and just respond to anything I see that is worth responding to.
So,it's more like only when I need to.

Hi, sorry for taking so long to reply to you. . .
I usually feel the same way, I usually only start a discussion when I have just thought about something while going about my day. I don't really have a goal but I just think that I might need to start a discussion once in a while. I also like making responses more than starting a discussion, because it seems to be much easier.
