CNN has just announced that Patrick Swayze has lost his battle with cancer. I cannot describe the pain I'm feeling right now. I fell in love with him when I first saw him in Dirty Dancing. Then when he shared the stage with Demi Moore in Ghost I melted. No matter how hard they tried, the rag mags couldn't come up with anything negative that he had done. He was a kind & loving man who adored his wife. He had ALL the qualities I look for in a man!!! This article says he went peacefully & I pray that is the truth!!!. Since he had to go, it gives me a little comfort that he was NOT in pain at the time!!! Share your memories of Patrick with us please!!!

I'm in tears LadyM. Just heard the news before I saw this in my inbox. I remember watching Dirty Dancing with my Dad and loving it, and him trying so hard to be a cool Dad, but failing miserably. LOL After it was over he told me if he ever caught ME dancing like that he'd send me to a nunnery! Years later I taught him some moves and Mom says he was the hit of their parties until his knees gave out! ROFL He was a charming, sincere actor and I will miss the grace of his movies.

You're right Zed. Never any bad press or scandal. He was a family man with ethics, values and humor and even when he played a tough guy or a bad boy, he did it with an attitude of fairness to all, and rightness! He was an example to pay attention to, and celebrities like him are fast disappearing...............

OMG Sparky, the thought of never seeing another new movie of his just rips my heart out!!! I own Dirty Dancing & Ghost on DVD. Once I get past the initial shock, I'm sure I'll be watching them BOTH!!! When I first saw him being interviewed I thought he's too good to be true. I can say he NEVER let me down as he lived his life as it should be lived. Once he married Lisa, he held tight to those vows.....something that just made me love him even MORE!!!

Life is just so fragile, isn't it. I caught up with this news too and it's all over the net now, I think. He had been suffering from caner and this disease has taken over so many people. There should be a cure for it already. I watched his acting before and in his prime, he was like a role model to me, a class of his own. He will definitely be missed.

His type of cancer is one of the worst and he did well to last as long as he did.
Did you know that just after he filmed the pilot for his last tv series "Beast" he found out he was sick. A&E wanted to cancel the series, but he said NO, he'd signed a contract and he would fulfill it. And he did. He completed the first season. A&E has now announced that they will not be filming a second season with a new lead actor, as it was Patrick's project and they want it to stand in tribute to his dedication to his responsibilities and his craft. How fitting!

Yes, life is waaaay too fragile & we ALL should hold to it tightly!!! Tell those you love that you love them daily. Once life is gone, it's TOO LATE!!! I agree that we should already have a cure for cancer & fortunately we do for some of the first kinds that came out. Now we just need to work on the rarer kinds. If it can take out the likes of Ted Kennedy & Patrick Swayze, what chance do we mere mortals have??? I'd like to take this opportunity to tell ALL my myLot friends that I love them!!!

Thanks for sharing the news. This makes me so sad. Thought he was absolutely wonderful in "Dirty Dancing." It's one of my favorite movies. He was a sexy, very talented man. G-d bless his family. They have lost a wonderful man. And his dancing legacy will live on forever.

I've been bawling like a baby for the last half hour!!! Thank you for the link. I don't think I could bear watching him right now, but will most definitely check it out once I get past the shock. I thought I had prepared myself for this moment, but there is NO way to be prepared no matter how hard you try!!!!

Yes, I was ready to come on and post it. I am so sad. What a gentleman, all the way. One of the nicest men in show business. My prayers for Lisa and the rest of his family and loved ones. If all men were like him, there would be true peace on earth. I will miss him so much. I am very sad.

I feel soooo sorry for Lisa, Don & the rest of his family!!! Patrick & Lisa were one of the finest couples Hollywood ever produced!!! Being a true gentleman was one of his finer qualities. He was true to his wife. He was true to himself. And he was true to his fans. What more could any of us have asked for???

this is very sad as news as the poor man has been battling this illness for some time now. Was a great actor, especially in Dirty Dancing, Ghost, Point Break, Donnie Darko etc. I send my condolences onto Swayzes family and may me never be forgotten
RIP

I've not seen Donnie Darko so now I have a movie to look for!!! One of his sleeper movies that I saw quite by accident was Father Hood. It was not a love story in the traditional sense. It was the love of his children that drover the man. He was every bit as endearing as a loving Dad as he was as a lover!!!! In looking down the list of movies he has done, it seems I have missed several of them. I will be keeping my eyes open as I'm sure every movie he has made will be on in the next week or two!!!

In my eyes, he was MUCH MORE than a great actor & dancer. He was a rare human being. He had a spiritualness about him unlike any I have seen before!!!

hello LadyMarissa,
Letting him go is hard to accept but on the other hand it's better than seeing him suffer from his illness. Another good actor passed away and yet he was so young. For sure he will remain in our heart for he was so good in Ghost movie. Is one of the best movie during that time. May he Rest In Peace.

You are correct!!! I would NOT have wanted him to suffer. My sorrow is totally selfish as I will miss him terribly. I have watched Dirty Dancing over 50 times, but don't think I can bear to watch it now. They were showing the end of Ghost this morning on the news. The scene where his ghost kisses his wife goodbye. I know I won't be able to watch Ghost any time in the near future. The only thing I am sure of is the white sparkly angels from the movie Ghost came & took him to Heaven!!! I feel honored that Patrick chose to share part of himself with the world & especially my little corner of it!!!

I'm just devastated tonight Tamara!!! My heart is just breaking. There haven't been many true gentlemen actors in my lifetime & we lost 2 of them this year alone!!!

Oh, these are horrible news! He was really young, only fifty-seven. Pancreas cancer is totally devasting. The life expectancy suffering this illness doesn´t go beyond a couple of years. But he will always be remembered by his films. Ghost is a cultural icon but I am not going to talk about this well-known movie.
My favourite film starred by Patrick Swayze is "Road House" released in 1989. It´s an action movie. He plays the role of Dalton, a bouncer in a pub of Missouri threathened by a gangster, a really hard guy.
Patrick managed to beat the gangster up, but cancer has been too powerful enemy.

So many are leaving us this year, its like each few weeks there is another that has passed from us into God's hands.
He will be missed for the man Patrick Swayze was on and off the stage. One of those that you could look at and know that he lived a true life with the years he had with all of us.
I pray the family is given the strength to get through these trying and sad times. The feeling of loss for such a person in their life has to be devastating, I hope God gives each of them hugs to get through, like in ghost, to let them know they will always be loved.

Very eloquently said!!! Yes, this has been a very tough year for our celebrities!!! Some won't be missed except for a little sadness when you hear they are gone. Some I feel will ALWAYS be with us from the work they left behind. Then there are those whose void cannot be filled....I find Patrick in this category!!! I can't imagine right now watching Dirty Dancing or Ghost feeling the love & happiness I've felt in the past. I think now I will just feel loneliness & sadness. Maybe in time I will get past this point, but it won't be today!!! May God bless his family with just a little peace in their time of sorrow!!!

The character he portrays in Ghost was superb. I guess what was him on the movie was exactly the same in real life in terms of being lovable to his wife. Even if his name wasn't a household name--people will miss him because he touched so many hearts. I am sure he is with HIM now enjoying the new life. It's good to know that he left without pain..I think that is more than enough.

He had a rugged, sensitive manly quality. He was very spiritual. He maintained his life well for the position he was in. He had bouts with heavy drinking, yet he controlled himself well enough to not become a spectacle. He took his marriage vows to heart & apparently did not break them during his marriage. I know he couldn't have been as perfect as I'd love to believe, but he did seem to be an honorable man!!!

Most people who have Type 4 Pancreatic Cancer only live about a year. He fought hard for 20 months & fought a battle that was impossible to win. He fought it with dignity & refused to give up until it was his time to go!!! I prefer to think he did not die of caner, he left us when the angels came to take him to Heaven!!!

In a way I'm not surprised and yet surprised to hear about his passing...I was almost expecting it any day to hear of it, yet surprised since he seemed so determined to fight it and survive. I feel so sorry for his wife, as the two were married a long time and she must be devastated as they were true "soulmates"
Yes I first became aware of Swayze in Dirty Dancing, and I think a lot of us gals fell in love with him in that movie. Then saw him in the mini-series North and South, Ghost, Roadhouse, and a whole host of other great movies. He really was a "gentleman" wasn't he? He sure is going to be missed

It is so sad that he lost his battle with cancer. He was still so young and had so much more to offer. I loved all his movies especially Dirty Dancing, and Point Break. Another favorite was City of Joy. I had a lot of admiration and respect for Patrick and he will be missed.

OH NO!! that is the first time I have heard of this..he was the most talented, kind thoughtful down to earth man//actor I have known...like you I fell inlove with him in Dirty Dancing and Ghost..am so sad it is a mournful time and many fans will be devasted to know about this gentle man's passing.
The only way we can think positivly now is that he is in a better place with no pain no worries and that he is being remembered by his family, friends and fans, at least now he can be happy and one day we will see him again..LoLo

He dealt with his fame as a true gentleman. He dealt with his life as a true gentleman. He was in EVERY sense of the word a true gentle man!!!! He was loved by everyone he met. He was loved by his fans. He offered unconditional love to everyone in his life!!! Yes, he will be missed terribly!!!

I never really followed him as a movie star and I cannot remember any of the times I must have seen him on film but he was obviously a good guy so we hope for the best for him in the next life.
Glad you saw a man you could admire in him, lady, and, yes, I will pray for him.

I'm glad I saw a man I could admire too. Even though I know less about her, I admire his wife also. Being married & faithful for over 30 years in Hollywood is almost unheard of!!! They renewed their wedding vows a little over a month ago as their final act of devotion to each other. They didn't take their love for granted but cherished it every day!!! How could I not admire a person with such a strong soul???

I cannot feel bad for this man who did not lose his battle with cancer but has passed through it. He is is in a better more comfortable place now with out the suffering of this horrible disease.

You are correct & let me say I'm NOT feeling bad for him...however, I am feeling GREAT sadness for those of us who loved him for the unique man that he was. I know he is in a BETTER place than he was here on earth. I know he is NO longer suffering. I also know that I am in GREAT pain knowing that I will not see him again in this portion of my journey. I know that it is irrational to feel this much grief over someone I never really knew. I'm finding it hard to NOT feel the connection. I'm feeling a void that I doubt will be filled anytime in the near future. This discussion was NEVER about feeling bad for Patrick. It was about me having a chance to talk myself through my grief...no matter how irrational that grief is. I'd like to thank EVERYONE who gave me their words so I could deal with mine!!!
