I colour my hair every five weeks. I have roots of touched up with a ash brown and then twice a year I have blond streaks put in.
I am just not happy with the thought of having grey hair yet. Maybe in the next decade! And maybe it is because I work that I want to look younger.! That too!
Both of my sisters colour their hair and my mother died at 94 years old and had her hair coloured just two weeks before she died. she was in hospice and a hairdresser came to do it for her. She was always very fussy to the end with her appearance. I am not as fussy as her at all - but do like my hair looking good.
Do you colour your hair? If so, then why?

I have colored my hair in the past, but not to cover gray. Just for the heck of it. I do have a few gray hairs right now, but nothing that is too obvious. I have medium brown hair that has reddish and blond highlights in it naturally, so the gray is pretty much hidden.

Gray just looks so old, doesn't it? I had a friend who wnet white in her late 30's but she had a gorgeous golden skin and she looked just great. Peole htought that she coloured her hair to get that look. Your hair sounds fabulous. My hair was a brown with reddish highlights (if I went into the sun)

I have always colored my hair. I do it more to express how I feel or to make myself feel better. I have had it blue black, purple black, brown and red. I am a natural blond so the black makes me look kind of like Mortisha .
I need to dye mine again just don't have the funds to it it right now.

That;s amazing. Most people would die to be a natural blond. I think that it is great that you try out different colours!

I ask a friend or my daughter to do my roots but the streaking I do have to pay a hairdresser to do.

Yes, I do! I'm not that old but I do have grey hairs and it makes my hair look dull and makes me look older than I am. I know a lady at work who's 6yrs older than me and has a full head of hair! And she said she's been fully gray for YEARS! OMG! I think gray hair I think someone in their late 40's.
I usually do it on my own, because I cannot afford to go to a salon to get it done. Though it's on my wish list of things to do. Otherwise I only color it when it gets tooo blah looking.

I used to color my hair, but don't anymore. I did it myself except for once or twice. I've had my hair colored black, a brown, and then red's. I like the red color the best, but don't dye my hair anymore after I met my fiance. His mom dyes her hair red, but that's not why I stopped dyeing mine red. I'm not particular about my hair, whether it be the style or color.

I've been coloring my hair since I was in my teens. When I was 12 I used to put this spray on it that would lighten it in the sun. Then when I was like 16 I started coloring it for fun. For a few years I'd color it every couple months.
After the twins were born I stopped for awhile, it was just one more thing I didn't have time and money for. Then after awhile I got back into it. I've colored my hair 3 different colors in the past year, first blonde, then dark burgandy, then light brown with blonde highlights.
My roots have grown out a few inches, and now I'm finding lots and lots of grays!! I'll need to color it again soon to cover those! I'm too young to have to color grays!! My mom went gray at a young age too.

My hubby is getting a lot of grays too, although it's harder to see because he shaves his head. I've seen a few in his goatee, and if he lets the hair on his head go a week without shaving you can almost see all the grays. If he let his hair grow right now he'd be salt and pepper. My poor kids are just scr^wed!!! They'll all be gray or bald before they're 30.

hi cynthiann,
yes, i used to color my hair. i've tried the following colors: maroon, chestnuts, yellow, and burgundy.
it's cool and trendy. but my last visit to the parlor last month, i was advised to have a hair treatment first because the hair colors damaged my hair. so i am on treatment for one month.

I have never suffered form damage from colouring but I always dry my hair naturally. I get a good cut and then just wah and let it dry naturally.

you're lucky enough for not experiencing any problem with your hair even if you use hair dye/color. i am more conscious with my hair now and will really follow that advise my hairstylist to keep my hair healthy. thanks!

Not anymore, I'm a teacher, and my students, and particularly their parents, wouldn't understand it LOL.
But I had a phase, like 30 years ago, when I was 20, where I wanted to look different and BE different. At that time I didn't know that one doesn't have anything to do with the other, but then again, I was young. I walked around in Germany with a morrocon kaftan, green plastic shoes and red hair. It looked pretty funny, and I felt really 'out of it'. I can smile about it now, and I don´t really care what I look like anymore, as long as I look civilized and clean. I'm losing my hair, my beard is grey (and I'm only 50!), and I generally try not to 'stick out' anymore. With which I don´t mean to say that you're trying to stick out, but you're a lady, things are more complicated, I guess.

I've colored my hair since I was 25, stupid premature gray gene. lol But at least I didn't inherit the early arthritis gene. Much easier to deal with coloring my hair. One time I let my roots grow out quite a bit. My kids made me go color my hair!!!

I do not blame your children for making you colour your hair. You are far too young to go grey. My mother was white at the age of 25 and she coloured her hair all of her life. I started to go grey at about 30 or younger. Not a good gene to inherit. Glad that you did not get he arthritis one though

i don't color my hair. i have not learned how to do that yet. and it does not look good on me. actually i like to color my hair cause i want to have new look. like one side of my hair orange, then on the other side red. ha ha. for fun, some people can get away with it looking cool and not funny. but me i will definitely funny and so i don't like to try it. but i have a nice face that can still look okay no matter what i do with my hair i will try to. that is my wishes to play with the color of my hair. if only i have some privacy at home like i have a big home. and i can stay at home only and not go out while i have this strange color of hair i will do so. but mostly i do the shopping and grocery so i can experiment on my hair.

I have not color my hair yet, but I am planning to color. I am looking at verious models and hair colors and thinking which one will suit me. I am also a little scared to color my hair because it seems coloring the hair will badly affect the hair. I have good thick hair and I heard that the chemicals in the hair die will lead to hair fall.

I colour my hair but, not on a regular basis. I like to use bright colours that stands out and makes me be notice. I like to colour my hair with a color that most people does not use. I like to be different and I do not like to have the same look for a long time.

i also do colour my hair. right now i have a chestnut colored streak and the rest has color brown.well its nice to color hairs simply to add more effet and make one looks good but there is also some hazards when putting color especially when one does it often. it can make the hair dry and worst it can put someone to be bald.

I started coloring my hair when I was in my twenties. I wish I had never started. Now that I am turning gray, I am afraid to stop. I have to put a color in every 4 weeks. One of these days I am going to stop, just to find out how gray my hair really is!

I know what you mean. My sister and I both started going gray in our mid-twenties. There is nothing wrong with gray hair, it just doesn't belong on someone in their twenties or thirties. If I had 'nice' gray it wouldn't be so bad. My hair tends to get totally unmanageable if I let the gray grow in.

I just accept what Jah gives me. I leave everything natural. I dont use hair color or makeup. Ive started getting gray hair when i was 36. I think it comes from my dads family. My dads mother had totally white hair since as far back as i can remember. My moms mother didnt get gray hair till she was in her 70's.

I think that is awesome that your mother still liked to keep her hair looking good at 94 years old of age. Most people when they get to be elderly don't even want to bother with keeping up with their appearance. I do color my hair. I think mostly because I always want to see what looks best on me. I seem to keep changing the color from dark to light with highlights. It drives my family crazy. I go through my different moods of what I like so then I just go with it.

My mother used to make a mad dash from bedroom to bathroom each morning and stay ther for at least an hour.
when she came out she was not only bathes and dressed (the b/room was as large as a bedroom) but she also had on her pearl earrings and necklace and was fully made up!
she said that just because she was going into a hospice didn't mean that she could not get her hair done! Amazing lady.

My hair is a dark blond naturally and I have just a few gray hairs appearing at the temples. But because my hair is fairly light, they are really not very noticable. I do however highlight my hair myself at home about every 4 months or so. I like to do it as it brightens up my face. I also get some natural highlights in the summer sun but not as much as I did when I was younger. So I am basically helping nature along a bit. *wink*

That's great! When our hair looks great then we feel great. This is so important that we feel that we look good - no matter what age we are. I do not like the early grey hairs though. Regretfully, my second son started to go gray from he was 22. It sometimes makes me feel strange to see him with gray hairs. He doesn't seem to let it bother him though.

hi cynthiann! Yes, I color my hair once a month. I go to the beauty shop to have mine done. I tried to color i at home one time and that was the biggest mess! I got it all over the bathroom and it kept running down in my eyes all the time! I said I wuld never color it myself any more. The reason why I have mine colored is because I have always been proud of my dark hair. Also, I am starting to get gray at the roots and like you, I'm not ready to get gray yet. My mother always got color once a month, too, and she went to the beauty shop every week for a shampoo and set. Kathy.

It is not that I am vain and I do not have many clothes but I would prefer to have my nails done and a pedi plus my hair looking good than buy a new outfit. As an older women I like to look good for my age - even though I am old, I still like to look well put together at work or otherwise.

I don't blame you for wanting to look good no matter what your age. I just feel like gray hair makes anybody look older. That's my opinion, though. Some people like gray hair.
Mother always went to the beauty shop every week because she never did learn how to fix her own hair. I have an older sister who goes every week, too. Kathy.

I do not colour my hair. I always believed about the natural colour is the best colour. And I really dont think that it suits me. If something suits your appearance you can do it. I really like to see people who colour their hair and look nice. And there are so many people who do not look good at all when they colour. Its also very impoortant that which colour should you choose.

I color my hair from time to time because its fun and I get bored with my looks. I hate that it dries out my hair though, so I just use some hot oil treatments and a really good conditioner and try not to do it too often. It's just hair and people shouldn't stress so much about it. People should do what they want and what makes them feel good about themselves. You can always let it go back to your natural color any time you want.

You are so right about that. Peole can do what they please to look good or experiment with different colours. I rarely use a hair dryer and so it has not dried out my hair at all.
