to fall asleep. I cannot think of any reason why this is. I just feel scared to turn off the light and sleep. Isn't it irrational? I am not afraid of dying or anything like that. Every night I pray and ask God to forgive any sins that I may have committed that day. So it is not death - as death to me, is just entering into life as it was meant to be.
I have actually been taking Tylenol pm to help me fall asleep more quickly. The thing is that I am weary and need to sleep as I don't cope too well if I am sleep deprived. I have stopped drinking coffee after 1o am in the mornings so I c=am not wired from caffeine or anything - just scared.
So what do you think it could be?

That does sound a little worrying to me and like you said, I am sure it is not very good for your health at all. I know you said that you feel afraid of falling asleep. I was just wondering if it was anything to do with nightmares i.e bad dreams. Perhaps you have been having bad dreams and that is why you do not want to sleep?

Now that you say it - I have had some nightmares recently. I didn't know that this could be the cause. I neve thought of that. Thanks

Have you had any nightmares lately, or watched any scary movies? Have you spooked yourself out, and then continued to do so without knowing it? There are times I spook myself and won't go to sleep for awhile. Maybe your too wired up during the day, or too stressed and tense. Does Insomnia run in your family? I don't know the symptoms of insomnia but it could be possible that you freak yourself out so that your body wakes up and doesn't sleep.
I don't know. Hope you can figure it out though.

It may be that it's related to stress! Are you still having the nightmares?

Is it irrational? Yes. However, I must say I've suffered from this type of problem before. I used to be utterly terrified of falling asleep. I'd end up fighting it so badly that I'd end up staying up all night and all day to the point of exhaustion and then I'd crash.
My problem was very related to anxiety and depression. Once I got on medication and was properly diagnosed, I started to drop that bad habit. However it still pops up now and then.

That is strange....maybe it delayed seperation from the twins....having them around might have not only tired you out but been some sort of a comfort factor....my little granddaughter hasn't stayed for a while as we have been up at the camper on weekends....but my son emailed me today that she was crabby and told him she wanted a sleep over here....so we are arranging it.....I miss her too..so maybe you are missing the little ones....it is a comfort to have them around.

You could be right. My son is due on the Island tomorrow from Dubai - so I will gt all of th news then and photos of them. Perhaps this couples with the fact that one of my best friends is in Florida having treatment and I don't think that she is going to get better. I never thought of these reasons - so thank you

hi cynthiann. i went thru that before. it's anxiety. consult a doctor. he/she can help you.
he may prescribe a tranquilizer. i was given bromazepam. but you may have a different case. so you need to consult a doctor. it might just be insomnia. mine was giving me bp increase, a feeling of lump in my throat, dyspepsia. and it all started with my being scared to sleep.

Thank you so much. Many mylotters who know my story worked out that it was anxiety as until last month I had my grand twins living with me whilst their Mother worked in Dubai - 4 hours from Iraq! I am missing them so very much

It might not be that you're scared of falling asleep. It could just be that you CAN'T fall asleep. It may just be insomnia, as everyone gets it from time to time.
If you actually are afraid of falling asleep then you should drink a glass of warm milk before going to bed. I heard it helps people to fall asleep.

Thank you - I will try it tonight. I am afraid of going to sleep - it is not insomnia - I do know that. I will try the milk. Thanks for the suggestion

hi cyntiann it could be you have had some duzzeys of nightmares'or bad dreams and you just dont want to do that again. take some vitamin b for awhile that will help you sleep much better. It might be a good idea to see a therapist for awhile if your insurance will pay for it as he or she might give you more clues to your problems but try vitamin b tablets they helped me to sleep better.

nO, MY INSURANCE DOES NOT COVER A THERAPIST. WISH IT DID! OOps = went into caps. Sorry. I think it is anxiety over not having my grand twins. They lived with me for 17 months whilst their mother was teaching in Dubai - near Iraq. she has now taken them back with her as they are old enough to go to nursery school. My son is there to settle them in but will return tomorrow. I think that I am worrying that hey will miss their Daddy so much.and they are so far from home. Many thanks for your input.

That's very odd. I've never been afraid to fall asleep myself, not unless I'm not feeling right and actually worried about my health. I hope you get it figured out and get some rest!

Some people have responded with ideas and I think that they are right. May be delayed anxiety over losing the twins and also a GF is in
Florida for treatment and it is so serious.

Cynthi, This is very troubling to me that u are having this problem, bless your heart. U have always seemed like such a strong person & u seem to have so much faith. U have been through a pretty traumatic time w/the twins leaving , worrying about your ol' mean boss etc. it may have just all caught up w/u. Go see your dr. & see if he can't give u something to settle u down. i'm sure he can. I HOPE u get to feeling better real soon. I'm a good listener if u need to talk anytime. HUGS, JO

Everything can just pile up on u sometimes. U had a tramatic time w/the twins leaving. i was afraid it would catch up w/you. Life can get tedious sometimes. U take care of yourself.

Thank you so much dear friend. I know that I can rely in you. I am thinking that I am missing the twins - it has all caught up with me plus a GF of mine is not doing so well and is in Florida for treatment and I cannot afford to call her as much as I would like.

Ummm well it could be a couple of things. Are you getting very tired at work? Are you getting over exhausted? Is that "demon" boss of yours trying to give you a hard time again?
Well it could even be some thing which you have supressed for a long time. maybe you are missing someone, like the children the twins, I mean. Maybe you are worried about their well-bing and getting over apprehensive. What my limited knowledge suggests is that you need to be just clam and belive me God is there for us to take care. He will not throw things at you which you can't take. So soothe your nerves and maybe try reading a book if you feel like. It is a very good way to fall asleep, especially if the book is written in some very tough vocabulary. Just a suggestion.
Hope you get better sleep from now on and are more in that cheerful mood which I know.

I am still cheerful but my friends here at Mylot - including you - I think have found the solution. I so miss my grand twins around and then my son comes home tomorrow from Dubai. Actually he stopped off in London for 3 days to see his brother and my sisters etc before coming to th Island tomorrow. I think that I have been worrying how the twins will be without him around on a daily basis. He has never left them for any extended period of time since they were born.
So I think that this is it.
However, my grand son told his mother to call me as he wants to speak to me. So she called and I spoke with both of them today. They asked me to sing their bed time song as when they called it was their bed time. So I did and then they said that they love me and will come home next summer. They don't know what summer is yet. It is good to keep in contact with them. I think that I was worrying subconsciously. Tonight I will try to sleep without taking the tylenol pm! Blessings

Ahh!1 almost forgot to add, do you take heavy dinner? Maybe you should even avoid non-veg for the dinner. maybe you can give it a try and see if it helps. At days when I am just struck in the office and there are not much physical activities involved in, I prefer just to have a glass of milk as dinner. It could help.

Hello cynthiann
dont worry sweetheart, are you feeling this lately and newly or you got this feeling from years and months?
see if this is just developed now, then dont worry its just sometimes your brain develops unknown fears and scares.See the thing is when we are too much hectic or busy life and our brains got pressurised, we start thinking something hallow.
And that hallow feeling is different to different people, i use to feel like you total opposite way.I get scared in day time, i am scared to look to people with eye contact i love darkness sometimes i would be scared of i wish i am not a werewolf or something :D
See everything that is developed evil is in your brain and everything that is sacred and pure is in your heart, believe on it and trust me pray god every night to let you sleep peacefully today so that you can thank him tomrrow morning for it :)
GOD BLESS YOU DEAR/

Thank you so much. You are a very wise person and I do so appreciate this response. I m working though this and I think that I may be a bit depressed as a good friend of mine is seriously ill and I miss my grand twins who used to live with me. Their mother was working in Dubai and now she has taken them as they are older and can go to school.

I'm not sure if I know what the symptoms of a panic attack are or not. I know one of them is a feeling of impending doom. Is it possible you might be suffering from panic attacks? I know I tend to get what I think are panic attacks sometimes and my medical book says just to ride them out. Both of my sisters get them, too.
On the other hand, I've had sleep problems just about all of my life and I take Tylenol P.M. every night. I say my prayers every night, too, and ask God to forgive any sins I might be guilty of. Kathy.

Hi Kathy - with the help of everyone here I am thinking It is anxiety over losing my twins plus my son will be back on the Island tomorrow and I am worrying how they will cope without their Daddy. They will miss him so very much. I also pray unceasingly thorughout the day and have got into the habit of asking for forgiveness of sins several times a day, Does tylenol pm have any side effects tha tyou know of?

I never have had any side effects from it and I've been taking it for a long time now. It's not addictive, either, which is what I like about it. My sister takes it a lot, too, but she takes it mainly for pain, I think. I hope your kids will do wel when they come to see you. Kathy.

Sound like serious. Have you meet the doctor? Relying on medicine is not a good thing too. Maybe you're thinking too much. You did said you had nightmares. Probably that cause it too.
My friend has insomnia (and she's only 26 years old) She can't take any coffee at all or she'll be awake all night (even during the morning) I don't think your case will be as serious as her.

I apologise in taking so long to respond to your response. The past few weeks have been stress laden as I did not know if I would have a job. Well, I went to a meeting yesterday and I do have a job for another year and last night I slept for 9 hours! I went out like a light so I expect it was stress and worry that was keeping me awake. Many thanks for your input and again, sincere apologies for my delay.

Yes, I have the same problems but not out of fear. There was no worry actually. I finished MyLotting about close to 1 am and then I retire to bed. I guess because the mind is still ticking, I could not go to sleep immediately. I did sleep after 3 am, I think.
