I am planning to buy a new laptop. I gave up on my Dell Inspiron 1525. I need something VERY portable, lightweight and lasts for a couple of hours. I am planning to buy a MacBook, though it is risky since there are quite some things MacBook cannot handle when it comes to programming. I am a Computer Science student and I need something that would serve me well.
Can you give me some advice on buying a new laptop? What brand do you trust the most?

I agree. No one can recommend a good laptop than an IT or a computer science specialist.

I'm 62 yrs old and have been using computers since I was 45! the best brand I've ever used is HP I've had several laptops, desk tops, printers and cameras! from them, and never once had any problems! Other than some I created myself! LOL! I've given my used ones to my kids to learn on and most are still ticking. During my careers, the companies supplied me with different types to use on the job and most were cheap junk! Like Dells and Toshiba, and Acer! I now have a new (6 months old) HP laptop, Pavillion dv6000 and it's awesome! Wide screen and Vista, I was Leary of Vista but I got it running great! tdemex

Hi there. I would suggest that you have a look at those AMD powered laptops. You can pretty have what you need from their various models. Powerful processors, outstanding display, lightweight, and great designs. Or you can also inquire about the new acer aspire timeline laptop. It's thin and has 8 hours of battery life. Just have a look at their respective websites. I have an acer aspire and I love it. Good luck in choosing your new laptop. :)

You can try Lenovo s10. This is a very light 10" laptop which you can carry anywhere. The design is very sleek and it's sturdy. I have a friend who has this, color white and it really looks stunning. I actually thought it was a Macbook at first sight. You can upgrade it to a 6-cell battery which I think will last 4-6 hours depending on your usage.
