A senior manager of my company does not mince his words. He is f***ing all day and uses really bad language. I know how to deal with it and have been known to tell him to behave in the presence of a lady... I don't think he is aware that he is doing it.
But it can be very embarrasing in meetings with suppliers.
Do you think swearing at work is acceptable? Do you ever use bad language at work?

i dont think that bad language can not be acceptable from anybody specially when you are at work..may they be your boss but i think they have no rite to abuse anybody..a good person is one who know how to behave with others...but i think your boss does not know this...i think you all should teach a lesson to him...

He is the boss but acting like uneducated person. His long years of studying is worthless, he did not learn anything. What a waste. He must go back to kindergarten.

I do not think it is acceptable to use bad language at work. I think that if one person uses it others will think it is okay to use it as well. This could possibly hurt business and the way customers think of you.

It is really a turn off for customers. How would you like to patronize the company's products and/or services if you know how rude the boss? I will never be supportive to that.

It is completely unacceptable if your boss uses bad language at work and no one can absolutely tolerate that attitude. Yes, If my friends at work uses bad language, then I dont mind that one since we too can use the same. Lolz and if the higher authority uses foul language, then I would definitely make it a big issue. Thanks for starting the discussion and have a great day. Cheers:-)

I agree, I don't think bad language is acceptable anytime except in certain writings. Being a creative writer, I've written stories based on bikers etc. and the bad language was for effect only. As far as work goes, I swear under my breath sometimes, but I'm not into the trash talking drunken sailor type of person.

I firmly believe that bad language is not acceptable whether in firm or not. Throwing bad words affect ones emotional especially if done in front of others. That is not the way to treat people under you. Good motivation must be observe. If the person commits mistake, I think it is just fair to call his attention but never ever call him names. People are there to work and not to be humiliated.
I also believe that promoting a good working environment would make everyone works productively and enthusiastically. It is always better to boost your employees' morale and make them feel that they are important by showing respect and appreciation on their work.
If management keeps on humiliating employees, people will leave them one by one. They will have bad reputations as well, sooner or later his operation will suffer that may eventually lead to closure. I believe that doing that others have bad luck. Everything has its returns.

...Hi taraelocin, This person sounds as though he either does not like people too much, or he does not like himself a whole lot. At any rate, my thought is that the work place, is not where you should use rude language. Take it home, or change your style, what's the point of having people listen to your street language, it's very offensive. I have never been one to use swear words at work. It has been said, that people who use swear words all the time, have limited vocabulary skills, and are lazy when it comes to using the English language. Take care.

Whether it's at work or anywhere for that matter, using bad words can never be acceptable in a civilized society. It is relective of the person's character and shows what kind of a person he really is. In jobs where inter-personal relationships play an important role, the results will even be worse. Sooner or later one will lose people's trust and respect.
have fun

I really don't think that it's appropriate to use bad language at work. At work, I think that you're expected to be professional, and using bad language isn't professional, or appropriate. It's not the place to use such language. At home, or in private, it's a whole different matter.

Bad language is never appropriate at work. I don't think it's ever appropriate anywhere - although I do say things sometimes. I really work on it though - I fell like I appear less intelligent - like I can't come up with a better word. But never at work - well unless you work in the military. :)

I personally am against using bad languages even when no ones around. Using bad language many times creates a bad impression on the fellow people. It gives a hint that either the environment in which we were braught up was bad or that we ourselves are pervert.I myself dont like the company of people who use bad languages.at the same time i advice my friends not to use the same
