I haven't used public transportation in years. In my early twenties I was attacked on a bus, and haven't gotten back on one since. I avoid it at all costs. For some it works, and I hope it is safer. But if it's a bus or calling a cab, I know which is my choice.

I am legally blind, and i was born that way. I have never been able to drive, I can not drive today, and I will never be able to drive in the future. When my husband and I got together we lived in a small town without public transportation, but when he also started to go blind, we decided to move to my hometown, where they have the best public transit system in the world. So I guess the answer is "yes I have."

I live in a city, where it has one of the best bus systems, in the entire country. The bus stop is just a couple of minutes walk from my house, and I can reach any corner of the city in just about an hour or two. Our fares are also quite cheap, and I think it will be the cheapest in the world. I pay about 10 cents for travelling 10kms. The only problem we face is the crowd, the buses will be always full.During peak hours the problem is still worse, and people ride on the buses clinging to the windows.

I never used public transportation before college. The thing with our school is you can walk 10-15 minutes to class when you're living in an apartment or you can take the bus which is just as long. Everyone here rides the bus whenever they are living off campus especially due to the reason parking and sometimes be a hassle and you walk longer from your car to class than from your house, to the bus stop, then from where you get let off to the building your class is in.
Either way I still have a car at school in case I need to go somewhere the bus doesn't run or if taking the bus isn't convenience.

I used public transportation for a long time especially when I was a studemnt. I agree with you, public transportation is much cheaper than owning a vehicle. But I started using a vehicle after my kids were born, it is more expensive but it is way more practical when you have kids. I can not wait all the time with the kids for the bus to come, it's a lot of hassle. Take care.

Like you, I live in a small town also and we don't have public transportation either, but if we did, I would probably use it. It would save on wear and tear on my car and be cheaper.

There is public transport in my area and it's definitely cheaper. However the transportation system is so inefficient that it's more convenient to drive. Furthermore, if I take a bus to work, I would have to go through at least 2 changes before I reach my office, and that would most probably take 1.5 to 2 hours. If I drive, it's like 15 - 30 minutes (depending on traffic condition).

We cannot rely on public transport as we live miles away from town.We would love to use public transport,we have no buses on a sunday and the buses don't start running till 9am on a saturday. It costs nearly £5.00 to get to our nearest town anyway so when we go on the bus it is a novelty. My husband goes to work at 4am in the morning no buses even run his way,our buses stop running at 8pm and don't start up again until about 7.30am.We do have a train but it is so remote and stops in town miles away from the shops it takes ages especially if you are loaded down with shopping. My sons ticket for school costs us £70 every four weeks on the bus, that is a student saver. On occasions I feel like moving nearer to the town as the buses run every ten minutes everywhere and there is even a night service, how lovely that would be.

hi elmiko... for my higher secondary school i used to use the public transport coz it was quite far away, i used to spend 2 hours just traveling... well public transport is quite cheap and good too, it also helps reduce pollution, if each of us has our own means of transport then certainly it is going coz much more pollution... i used to live in a small town that time and each day i used to travel to they city for attending... it was fun, most of the time i would sleep in the bus after the day was done, quite wonderful days with friends, now only memories remain...

I don't drive and neither does my hubby at the moment so we are used to using public transport, though it is getting really expensive. Hopefully I won't need to soon as my hubby has his driving test in 2 weeks time =) Then I can say bye bye to public transport if hopefully he passes

I used public transportation only when I was in high school, but I used to live in a bad area of town, and you really don't want to wait at the bust stop there, and you don't want to find those people on the bus.
After those years I didn't take a bus anymore, as well now, I might take it if I'm abroad and that's the main transportation, but definitely not in my town.

yes i do. i can't afford to buy a car as of now. there are ways on how to enjoy that public transport ride. Bring an activity to improve the quality of your ride. Whether you use your commute to read a book, pay bills or work on your laptop, you'll enjoy your travel experience more when you use your time wisely and multitask on your ride.Strike up a conversation with your neighbor. Socializing is a great way to pass the travel time, and you may make a new friend who lives or works near you.

I haven't ever rode on the local public transportation. But I have used this type of transportation when I was in bigger cities like New York City, Boston and Las Vegas. I was amazed at how easy it was to get around. And inexpensive for the folks who live there as well.
I did talk to some locals when I was in New York City, and they talked about people who were proud to be the third generation in their family who didn't even have a driver's license. I think that this would become a problem if you ever went to another city and needed to rent a car.
I am glad that I got my driver's license at an early age. But, if I lived in a big city, I wouldn't mind using the public transportation systems, like the subway.

hi,
Though public transportation has always been a cheap way of travelling it is sometimes good to have own vechicle. In urgent situation you may not be able to opt for public transport as they may not be available everytime. Yes, right from my childhood i used public transporatation and sometimes i used to get tired of travelling through bus as it was overlaoded or too late in arriving. Waiting for several hours to catch the bus and after boarding you have to stand for several hours inorder to reach the destination made be feel own vechicle is better, eventhough it costs more. I still do not have own vechicle but think it is better to have it.

I've been taken public transportation all my life.
Back home in Germany I used to take the bus, train and streetcar. Now I'm in America and I take the bus every were I go. I had a few car years ago but I really don't like driving.

Hi, elmiko
I use public transportation every now and then, but I mostly get around the city by our car. My husband's office is so near my office that we leave the house for work together in the morning and go home together as well.
Have a nice day!
