Do you work on saturdays?

My normal working week is Monday to Friday. Of course if it is a busy week and some presentation or other work needs to be completed I have to work from home for some hours on a Saturday. But even whilst this counts as unpaid overtime I am quite happy to be in a job which normally doesn't require me to work on a weekend.
Do you have to work on weekends? Is it a problem for your relationship or family life?

Hi. I'm currently staying at home full time. But in my previous work for seven years, I used to work on weekends and holidays during our busy season. I had no overtime pays being a manager but I enjoyed that job. I have resigned from the firm due to conflicts between my work schedules and family demands.

It's similar for me. As a manager you don't always have the choice not to work on a weekend. I know a colleague with kids finds it quite tough at times as she wants (needs) to spend the time with the little ones.

Yes, it's really when conflicts occur between our personal and professional lives. In my case, I chose to prioritize my family over my career. My family is my future and they worthy of my sacrifice.

Hi, taraelocin. I am a full time stay at home mother. So, working on the weekends is normal for me. I work for my kids and I am on the Internet too. When I used to have a wage paying job, I did not like working on Saturday's. Especially, if I had to work all during that week on my job. I needed this day off so that I could rest and catch up at home and with my family. Sometimes, if I did not work throughout that entire week, I would be glad to work on a Saturday. This will give me the extra hours to bring in some more money on my paycheck. It just all depends on my work schedule if I like working on Saturday's or not. I know that right now I have no choice but to work on Saturday's.

As a stay-at-home mom you have much more time for your kids, which is great. But as you say - it can make money rather tight.

Hi Taraelocin,
Saturdays and Sundays are my days off and this means i am home for the weekend. i spend my weekend most of the time with the family. however, since i have a consultancy part-time job on training...schedules are usually Saturdays. so i am forced to be out and do some part-time jobs. but most of my weekends are spent doing the grocery with my family, cooking, watching tv together, malling and just being there for each other...enjoying each other's company.

well i have seen many workers or employs whose working days are from Monday to Friday but where i work i have to work from Monday to Saturday and it is pretty annoying as only one day to take rest do to spend time with your family , sometimes i feel like quitting the job but when i compare my work with my salary i found it genuine to work on Saturday also , so no regrets on working on Saturday also and i am also happy because my company allows me break of one week every month to take rest. so it's really great.

Only one day off to recover from the week and relax is not much though. But at least you are getting decent money for it.

At least you only have to work in the morning, so you can go for trips afterwards. I remember in school we always had 1/2 day on Saturdays. I hated that as most of my friends in other schools didn't have school on Saturdays.

Yes, I work Saturdays and Sundays..they are just another work day to me.
My "official" weekend is Thursday and Friday.
I work 3rd shift.. so I already find it hard to see my family.. but it would be nice sometime to have a weekend off.. It just hasn't happened in many years. SO I won't hold my breath.. lol

Work sometimes has to take priority. But I would still find it hard to do what you have to do. My husband and I don't have as much time for each other as I'd like, but at least we see each other a few hours on a weekend.

I am not supposed to work on Saturdays, but now a days I am forced to work due to the work pressure. I will be payed extra for working on Saturdays, but it is not worth getting paid if you stay with your family. You can't compramise on the time to be spend with your family due to overload of work. One of my colleagues turned in the paper due to this high work pressure.

I guess emotionally it is not worth it. But my boss expects me to do my work - so I can either work 12 hours a day during the week or a few extra hours on the weekend if things are busy. So sometimes there is no real choice.

I hope the market is recovering soon and things will become easier. It must be hard to work an extra day without extra money.

Hi Tara,
Like you, I also work from Monday to Friday only. I devote my Saturday and Sunday to my family, this is our time for bonding. The whole work week most of the time keep us all preoccupied with work (for me), and school (for the kids). It has never been a problem for me coz I make sure my weekends are devoted to my family alone.

It probably is easier for both you and the kids to be able to spend this time together. I remember I always played with friends on the weekend and Sunday was then family time.

Sigh,my normal working week is from Monday to Saturday. And i have to work on Saturday without any salary. It is just the regulation the company made, if you don't want to obey, you can leave.
The employment situation here is not good,in order to get a job, we have to bear these rules. The government here also know this, but can't help because they need these enterprise to solve the employment problem.
Hoping the labor law become maturity a.s.a.p.

I personally am grateful that people are working on the weekends in places like super markets - I'd never be back early enough from work during the week to do my shopping!

No, I don't! Saturday and Sunday are my days-off. Early, since 2 years, when I have another work as a seller, I had to work even on Saturday and Sunday, but my days-off were during the work-week, I mean from Monday to Friday. But now I work only from Monday to Friday and I have to work maximum for 5 hours a day

As far as I am concerned, I think most of us have no work on saturdays. I usually sleep a lot on my weekends. When I wake up from bed, I usually turn on computer .With the computer running, I begin to wash my face at the same time. The computer is my work tool. I like the work. Happy mylot.

A bit like my husband then. He doesn't have to work on weekends, but he usually does for some hours. He says he has too much to do not to.

Really? Most people have it in their contract if it is a 5-day or 6-day week and they just have to stick to it.
I personally have a 5 day week, but if something needs doing, of course I work on a Saturday. I don't think it is right to always do this though just to look efficient at work. The body and mind needs some time, too, to stay effective.
