Hi all. I have read a few discussions of late about scrap booking.
Now, I am just curious, what makes scrap booking so interesting?
Other than just a hobby, what is it about scrap booking that appeals to you so much?
Is it the material that you are working on?
Is it the kind of paper you use?
Or is it the kind of trinkets you can find to make it into a project?
Or is it the subject for the project that you are working on?
Or is it the theme?
I was just lying down the when suddenly all these questions flooded my head. And it reminded me of a friend who loves scrap booking a lot. And when I recall those questions listed above, I just drew a blank suddenly.
Please, share with me. What is it in scrap booking that ignites your passion for it?
What is it in scrap booking that gets you all excited and want to just sit for hours on end from start till end to complete a scrap book project?
And if you have to look for material to do your scrap book project, what kinda material do you look for?
Where do you go to look for them?
Do you make your own?
Or do you specially buy them for scrap booking?
How much would you usually spend on a typical scrap book project?
Oh... so many questions! So little answers!
By the way, Season Greetings and a Happy Holiday!

For me it is all of the above, the people in the pictures, and the memories that I want to re-create in my pages. It helps to "stamp" the memory in my mind, never to be forgotten. The stickers and trinkets I add, is just to show the love and care I have for the people in the photos.

It's the presentation of your memories...the way you lay them out.....the way you cut your pictures.....I do alot of my own embellisments as I have a cricut which is a computer that cuts out what you want....letters etc......It depends on the kind of scrapbook you make as how much it will cost you....but to me it doesn't matter about the cost. It's preserving your memories in a way you can enjoy them.

thanks for this discussion! right up my alley.
I guess scrapbooking appeals to people who are sentimental, who treasure remembrances, so like to keep bits and pieces that remind them of a significant event.
In our modern day, scrapbookers are those who will still print out photos for albums when almost everyone else is keeping them in seldom viewed digital form. scrapbookers take things one step further by adding a dimension of art to their photo albums, and journalling.
For me, I love writing. So scrapbooking combines my love for writing, and recording these memories.
My favourite shops in Singapore are at Plaza Singapura and Raffles City. Huge shops with huge ranges. I think scrapbooking is therapeutic too. The hours just pass so quickly when I am at a scrapping class or when I'm completing an album of say my pregnancy days or my child's first few months.
The only challenge or thing I do not like about scrapping is that materials can be very costly! so I am challenging myself to buy less and scrap more. Beautiful pieces can be made with what I already have, and I sure don't need to buy more and more! the temptation is when they have those blasted sales! :)
Perhaps what I have below sums it up most succinctly. I entered it into a competition and won! :)
Scrapbooking both releases and captures. It releases art from my soul; it’s my creative outlet, an escape from mundane routines - chores and child-rearing. Yet, it captures everyday moments, locking in memories otherwise so easily lost amidst life’s harried rush. Scrapbooking’s fruit is life’s vignettes ensconced in pages of beauty.

Well, scrap booking is kinda fun if one enjoys the process, and also, the excitment of giving to the person who's the true owner of it ^_^
SO far, i have made 3 scrap books.. Out of which, 2 is for the same person, while the 1st book is for another gal.. haha =D Basically, my scrap book is kinda easy and cheap.. lol =D
I dun spend much on materials, using those available in my house.. hehe ^_^ And since the scrap book was for my gf then, the contents will be mostly her, as well as me, also, the places we have been to ^_^ I will always be keeping those little things i can use, such as receipts, and kind of promotions thinggy.. haha =D
As such, my scrap book is colorful and meaningful, for it's just so original.. lol =D

I have collected some stuff. I have place them in a box. I really need to have a scrap book to keep it in. It would be really interesting to have them pasted into a book and then look back on it and later on when I am much older.

I know a lot of friends who love to scrapbook. I have not gotten into it, even though I love taking pics. I honestly don't need the clutter of all the supplies - I have enough already
A friend of mine did scrapbooks for both her parents for their birthday's then an anniversary scrapbook. They turned out beautifully.
I want to make a scrapbook for each of my girls for when they graduate from high school.
I just discovered photo collages so I think this is what I am going to do for my girls as a high school graduation gift. No clutter, which is a biggie for me.

I am not much of a scrap booker but i can see why it would be interesting. I think that a scrapbook can be somewhat artisitic depending on the person and they can express their feelings about a certain time or place by doing a scrapbook. There are so many options and different ways to do them that it can be hard to know where to start..lol..I think that some people actually prepare them in a way that they can be family heirlooms and passed on and on. I have seen a lot of materials at hobby stores and there are a lot of places online for scrapbookers too. I think that the artistic scarpbooker can come up with some very unique means and materials. Take care.

Scrap booking encourages creativity to develop and the skills of having to develop talents in designing, matching and combination of different material could makes anyone appreciate the effort being put by the one wjo make it it may varies depending on the need of the person and its purposes whereas it could be a souvenir items or just a list of memento compile into one which could suggest the person layout is attunes to his emotion the moment he/she creates her.his own unique scrap booklet..My material for scrap booking i prefer those recycled paper and those with dry flowers or leaves on it or the fiber is still visible on the paper this makes any scrap booklet look fantastic and unique coz it is made with labor of love and it could even be better being given as a gift or just a souvenir between lovers and friends..

I don't do any scrap booking myself but i can see why people would and maybe i will myself one day. As a way to document your life. Putting your thoughts, your interests, pictures and experiences all together to form a book. A book that represents you and your life. pretty cool and meaningful stuff :)

I'm a typical fan of scrap booking and i really know what I am up to while im doing it. For me I have different reasons why I like doing it. Here are my opinion about this.
1. I like scrap books because i can act out all the things i have in mind. in short, my creativity is awakened when doing so.
2. I like scrap books because by doing so, i will have a lot of discoveries for my self. Making something out of a thing that not all people will know. These discoveries will add up to the different ways I could apply in my daily living.
3. I like scrap books because i can give out all the emotions that I am feeling at that point. It serves as an alley for me to express all the things i am feeling.
4. I like scrap books because no matter how other criticize your work, they wont affect the totality of what you are feeling, that is if you will believe that this is out of who you are and you will not allow just any body to crample you down.
5. Its the only way i can show my weakness and strengths.
6. It helps me communicate to other people.
7. It shows who i am.
Scrap booking is more than the colors that attract your eyes or the texture you feel by your hands. It is more of the emotions that you want to show and the appreciation of your totality. Its the only scrap that is worthy.

It's fun!I am an artist by heart and I made a scrapbook of my kids pictures since they were babies...I tried to put natural arts but then I was afraid of ruining the pictures coz it can spill colors like a leaf.I bought the materials from a store though. It's halfway done, still a lot of future memories to put on..

It all has to do with what people like. I think really artistic people enjoy scrap booking more than most. I'm artistic, scrap booking is probably my least favorite project to work on. But I still do sometimes.
I think it's just about saving things (pictures, little notes, trinkets, etc) that are important to you, and knowing one day, a long time from now, you can look back and see all these memories.
I actually started working on a scrap book for my nieces, but I never finished it lol

I don't know, I'm coming from the other end where I've seen people drop a lot of money on scrapbook stuff and never use it, what a wasted investment. We did some scrapbook pages since we travel a lot but its something that I'll do when I'm forced, I can't see spending a whole day doing it.
