Wishing Sickness and Death...

Sickness and Death... - Sickness and Death...

A couple of days ago I responded to a news article about Rush Limbaugh being hospitalized after suffering chest pains. I wasn’t going to respond b/c I didn’t feel like getting into a big political scene but then I read a few of the responses. I was stunned. Ppl were actually happy that he was sick, some even hinted that it would be nice if he’d just die. I responded to it and said that regardless of whether you like someone or not, it’s terrible to wish sickness or death on them. That karma has a tendency to come back and bite you in the backside. A couple agreed and many stopped putting such hateful things but it did make me wonder why they would wish that on anyone. I don’t like 0bama…ok, I REALLY, REALLY don’t like 0bama but I don’t wish sickness or death on him or his family. I was just raised that you don’t do that. Have you, or would you, ever wish sickness or death on anyone? What do you think when you see someone else doing it? Do you believe that it will come back on you? I keep away from political discussions. You are right about karma. What goes around comes around. Never would I wish pain and suffering onto even my enemies. When I hear someone stating they wish that another human got a dreadful disease or had an accident I speak up and tell them they are wishing harm to another person and also much grief for those who are close to them. How would they feel if the tables were turned.

I have often observed that people who are that angry and bitter are eventually eaten up by their own bitterness and suffer terribly themselves. I am not saying that nice people never have illness, but the nice people I have known, who have been positive, have also had the grace to deal with their illness. I think people who hate so strongly also hate themselves.

No, I would not! I don't like the man and he irritates the crap outta me but I would never wish bad things for him. Don't get me wrong, I'm a very conservative person politically, but I think aside from his arrogant and conceited on-air persona and the fact that he doesn't necessarily speak for me, I wish him well. I do think that he could make better use of his influence. For example, instead of criticizing and ridiculing, he could suggest constructive ideas and actions and inspire people to do something about our problems instead of raving and denigrating. I'm glad it wasn't a heart attack and I'm glad that he's doing well even though I don't listen to him and I'm not a fan. If you remember, when Cheney went in for some heart issues there were many who were publicly wishing he would die. I don't care what your political persuasion or ideas, I would never wish ill for anyone.

dragon, I hear you about Limbaugh's arrogance and that is why I didn'r like him a few years back. But now I do listen because he makes so much sense. He does offer solutions and explains why things are wron in the political arena. Give him a try for a little while. If you give him a chance you might feel differently or at least you gave him a chance. Leenie

You know, I do not exactly believe in Karma, or the Power of Attraction, but I have always been cautious about what I wished for people, because I know that if I wish it, I probably will also deserve it. I have known way too many bitter and mean people who reap what they sow.

Hi Twoey, Yes I beleive it comes back on you and threefold, if not in this lifetime the next. The only time I did think like this was when I was getting divorced and fighting for the tenancy of my house, my ex was really verbally abusive to me a lot and let his 'girlfiend' come to the house it was absolute hell living for 3yrs and mentally I was going through a breakdown but at that time yes I did wish ill on him and at one time when he went for a heart bypass wished he would die..but it didn't happen yet my mind was in a turmoil..since though I have asked for forgiveness, and now feel he is getting his just rewards for the way he treated not only me but his children and ex wife before me....LoLo

When I was younger and a little more dumber I used to say " I hope you die" or "Burn in Hell" but that was just the teenager talking. Now that I'm older I realize how precious life is and I don't wish bad things on anybody and I'm sorry for all the bad things I said in the past.

I try not to wish harm to others. Sometimes it can be hard, especially if they have caused a family member a lot of problems. Life is sacred and wishing harm to someone because you don't like them seems to me to be wrong. I don't know if I phrased that properly, but I hope you understand.

I'd be a liar (and I think most would) if I didn't say a time or ten I've caught myself wishing those kind of things on the deplorable... However, your point is sound. Spirituality teaches us their are consequences to such thinking, but so does basic general psychology and even quantum physics. Stress studies clearly show that negative thinks and feelings hurt the individual experiencing them. We should be working for the best. A great example of this notion is that one time Mother Teresa was asked if she'd attend an anti-war rally. She said, "no, but if you ever have a pro-peace rally I'll be the first one there." DR...

I totally agree that most of us have at one time or another had such a thought in our lives. Of course I believe the difference between good and evil is that some will act upon those thoughts while others will not.

I would never do this to my worst enemy. I believe it has a way of coming back on you. I believe you should do others the way you want to be treated. I do not want to be treated that way. You can find in the book of Ester in the Bible, a man who did not like the Jews and tried to kill them. He was the one who got killed. We need to be careful what we wish on someone else. Have a great New Year.

That is just wrong on so many levels. I, personally, cannot stand Rush Limbaugh. But I would never wish him harm, or anyone else for that matter. Whether you (meaning anyone) do or don't like the President you still should respect the office. The voting is over, let's move forward now and get over it. It's time to put petty feelings aside and work together to mend this country so America can be strong again.

I completely agree with you about wishing such terrible things on a person but I have to take issue with your dislike of a person you most likely have never met and do not have a personal relationship with. Say you don't like his policies, you don't trust him as a leader or whatever, but saying "I REALLY, REALLY don't like Obama" doesn't make you all that different from those negative and childish people sending bad thoughts to Rush Limbaugh. One more thing; Barack Obama is the president and should be addressed with some respect regardless of how you feel about his policies, decisions or leadership abilities. One person alone does not lead any democratic society. Just as the president can veto congress and the senate he has a whole team of advisors and when he makes a decision he can be vetoed as well. Free speech can be a wonderful thing or a pain in the derriere. Think about it.

I agree with you. I don't understand the mentality of those who wish nothing but bad things on people with whom they disagree or just plain don't like. It's incredibly disturbing.

There have been people in my life that I have wished to never see again. There have been people in my life that I really couldn't and still wouldn't be able to stand, but I would never, ever wish that someone was sick or that they would die. I believe that would be terrible karma for myself. I was brought up to care for other people. I even worked in the nursing field for a time and there was never a patient that I refused to care for even though all of the girls that I worked with had the occasional patients that they would not care for.

I think people have been stirred up to hate him.. which I find very sad. I think more than enough folks would stifle all voices of opposition to their own party. This sentiment is the opposite of liberty and free speech.

I would not wish anyone ill health or bad luck. But I can see why people have responded to his illness in such a way. He is the one who boldly say that he hoped President Obama failed. He has also said other things I do not agree with but he is a very popular conservative radio host. The conservative people ssem to look to him as a great leader. Only time will tell who is right. But to speak or feel ill will toward him is lowering one's self to his level. But that's just my opionion.

My goodness, my friend, I have stayed away from this Forum for about 10 days, because I am so adversed to disparity, diswill, discontent.....and bad will of any form. I was taught by My Lord...to have an attitude of gratitude, and to let each be his/her own. I would NEVER even harvest the feelings of hate or dislike, there are so many other good choices, and ways to make your way in this world. Cheers!

I wouldn't wish it on anybody unless they were as bad as Hitler or Stalin, but there are many people I would wish justice on. And no, I don't believe it will come back to me.
