Hi Mylot friends,
I am just so happy and proud to share with you my son's great accomplishment today. I received this note from my son's teacher:
CONGRATULATIONS!
Your child, Angelo Miguel has qualified to join the 2nd Elimination Level of the Spelling Bee. This will be on January 14, 2010. Kindly help him prepare for the contest.
My son has autism and he is in his first year of the mainstream program. The school was so great for giving my son chance to be in the regular school. The support that they make for him to develop himself and bring out the best in him is something to be grateful with. We've been very supportive of him and provide all that he needs to do good in school and he is.
Today is their 1st elimination level and he made it! It's a great accomplishment for my son!

hello msfrancisco...
oh i'm sorry that i made you cry...but i am just telling the trith and how i feel about it...i actually salutes parents like you. i am not a parent yet but i know how difficult it is to raise children...and what more with kids who have special condition...
i have read some of your comments here and your story reminds me of this one movie that i watched, about a twin having autism...and this movie really inspires me and makes me admire their mom who do lots of sacrifices and she really fights for her children to have fair treatment in the society and support them...and in the end, all her sacrifices and patience pays off...coz her twins really becomes successful and an inspiration to others...
its title is 'miracle run' are you familiar with it? you can check the story here...

it's okay no need to worry. it was a happy tear. i watched some movies about autism--like the "mercury rising" and the "rainman". thanks for having that passion for special kids even if you're not a parent yet still you are empowered enough to say those things in support to autism. again thanks!

wowo two thumbs up for your son ms.francisco. you have all the right to be proud. clap clap clap. and even he has autism in does not stop him and you his parents to achieve this. hats down to you and to the teachers as well. just one question when did you detect that your son has autism? i have a friend with a son who is four years old but does not speak yet... is that autism?

Hi 7thbird,
Salamat...Mabalos po! Yes, my son's big development is a TEAM effort! i salute his teachers for a job well-done. we detected this when he was only tow years old and was confirmed when he reached 4. his case is the same with his kuya. I only have two sons and both of them have autism. It's mild but needs appropriate interventions. Good that we did an early one and i hope the eldest will also reach the mainstream program. He's already 13 and Angelo is 9 years old.

Hi Letran,
Thank you. You are right-- if given the proper intervention, they can excel academically and even hone the skills and talent that they have. he's really good in spelling and even his writing is great. he's only in grade--for the mainstream program with the regular students and he's really doing well. his teacher is so amazed of his determination to cope and learn. Thanks to Teacher Carmela and the rest of the team.

Hi msf,
Thank you very much for sharing the great news and I know the credit goes to you and his father. I can simply guess how much hard work you are doing for you son. I read about autism and the kids really need special care and attention from parents. If so, they can do really well like normal kids. I congratulate you to achieve the great success and I am conveying my heartfelt wishes to your son and praying for him to achieve more in future. God bless you and your family.

Reguardless of the obstacles a child has to overcome, it is always great to here good news...when the child has more difficulty in learning, as your son certainly does, receiving good news like this is even more special!!! That said, you should be proud of not only your son, but yourself as well!!!

Hi Lyn,
In all his battles over schooling-- we are always on his side. he's so happy seeing us in all his school activities. one time he even introduced us to his classmates. we're amazed even his teachers. he did the right way of introducing us. i know with the kind of effort my son is exerting as it relates to his studies i know he can make it to the mainstream program.

Hi Lynkshadow,
I think friend it's aspergers disease. it's within the autism spectrum. i admire for having the heart and patience to proivde care and support to your relative who has autism. you will surely be blessed with the kind deeds you are doing. yes, we considered it as one of the greatest things that happened in his first year in the mainstream program. he was able to compete with his other classmates in the regular class. i feel so great about his development in school. thanks friend. i appreciate you as a person. continue touching other's life for the concern you have for our special children.
