Several thousand years ago, people only living with what they hunting or fishing now go to the supermarket, and buy all what they want. meat i mean.
However, and now there are people who have the pleasure, or instinct to hunt or fish, now is as a sport.Do you like this sport? Make you calm, and really like to stay there one hour to wait a fish, or to run through the woods or on the field for a rabbit or a pheasant?

I used to like going fishing with my ex. I wouldnt actually do the fishing. I would just sit and relax. I always found it peaceful. Usually the fishing spot would be at a pleasant location, or one with a good view, and it was lovely just sitting there dreaming, reading and drinking coffee.
I never caught fish myself and I dont eat fish.

I love to fish but I don't like eating the fish..so what is caught usually gets thrown back in or it goes to my parents. I enjoy the relaxation that fishing brings. I do not hunt for anything though..but I have brothers in law that do hunt deer.

I will occasionally go fishing IF I want fish for dinner that night, or if I know i am going to put the fish in the freezer to eat one day, or give to a friend to eat. Only for food, not for sport. I have eaten every single fish I have caught in my lifetime.

I don't hunt but my husband and I do fish from time to time. Fishing is very relaxing...and it's also challanging because the fish don't simply jump into your boat and give up. We always either eat what we catch or throw it back.

I rarely go fishing and I don't hunt at all. I don't have any skill in fishing, so I always catch some little fishes, which I throw back or put into my pond in the garden, so they live there.

Well, I go fishing for fun. Of course if I catch a fish then I cook them. But I am not professional at that, Its merely for enjoyment and family bonding since my 6 year old son really loves to try fishing holding a fishing rod despite not getting any fish. So its really a wonderful time for us all to go out and enjoy.

When we use to live in our family house (farm house actually), my uncle would fish by the creek near the home for our lunch. Some of the folks there would hunt snakes, frogs, insects for food. It is part of living especially because insecticides aren't working, they would just manually catch the insects that batters the crops (turns out to be that they were edible). As for me, it is about survival especially when in the community, there is but little choices. As for the other animals like snakes being hunted for food, I am not for it because there is a disturbed balance in the food chain. You know when there is not enough snakes, there would be more rats and the latter would eat the crops. We do not have to resort to chemicals most especially that the environment's condition is at stake. More so with our health. I guess, when people have more choices and be more intelligent to understand what balance is, hunting is a very rewarding experience.

I do not like fishing or hunting although as a means to having a meal, it is nesscesary for some people. However, as a sport where the animal has no chance of winning, then it is rather cruel. Sports where animals are tortured, eg bull fighting are barbaric but have been part of countries culture for centuries. In evolution, we were all hunter gatherers at one point for our survival. I guess now that everything is pre packed and prepared then we have no need for the hunting instincts. I guess if we had to go and slaughter our own food then there would be a lot more vegetarians around.

Hello icesmile. What a great topic. I love fishing. When I fish it is so relaxing and my stress just melts away. In fact, we just had a pond dug so we can stock it with our own fish. We love it so much that we thought it would make it more exciting to be able to go right out side and fish off our own land. I have tried hunting, but it wasn't my thing, but I did love being in the woods, very relaxing. My issue with people is that they don't mind eating the pre-packaged animals, but they are very insulting to those who hunt for their own. It is disturbing that people will eat meat and then get mad at those who kill it themselves.

Long time ago before the great flood on earth, people don't eat meat. People only eat fruits and vegetables. After the flood, God allow people to eat or hunt meat from animals, provided that the animal is clean ( not a scavenger animal). If we base in that time, it is really not good to hunt animals just for fun or sport. We may hunt them for the purpose of food. Animal have also life and they also get hurt.

I have to say I'm very surprised and pleased by these postings! A lot of people still like to fish, and no one is outwardly bashing hunting. I find a lot of satisfaction in both myself. Typically, I find myself on outside of this discussion. I live on the Gulf of Mexico and love saltwater fishing from my kayak. I can paddle out to a beautiful spot, put a couple of lines in the water, and let the wind push me around. The breeze blows through the taught fishing lines and makes a high pitched "song". That's my happy place. I'm passionate about cooking so the pleasure is two-fold. I also love hunting for more or less the same reason. It's a fine balance between serenity and adrenaline rush. It satisfies something primal in me. It's one of the few things in my life where words fail me when I try to describe it to someone that doesn't participate. In both cases I hunt & fish for food. I would never kill anything I wouldn't eat. I don't live in an area where I can readily buy wild game (not that I would). The fish I eat are game species that aren't allowed to be commercially sold. I've been told that I was born 100 years too late, but to me it's just enjoying the bounty that the earth provides. Anyway, I'm glad to here you are all out there appreciating nature. Happy Trails!

There is a really good feeling of satisfaction when you eat what you hunt/catch. It's just that, it's better to hunt/catch what you knew lived a good life - rather than buying meat that have grown in farms that are like concentration camps. In the US there are several "concentration-camp-like" farms for bovine (beef), they don't stay on meadows, or grasslands, they live on dirt and eat wheat. I pity more the animals that people buy in supermarkets more than the meat i hunt/catch in the wild.
