Pee as an alarm clock?

I'm playing around with an amusing thought. Since there's a body clock, why not use the body alarm clock. To make sure I wake up in a few hours, I try drinking a good amount of water before I sleep. It's guaranteed to wake me up in a couple of hours. ;-) Have you ever tried anything like this?

this was a common advise when we were in college. if you want to wake up in 2 hours to study, drink lots of water. becuase with the alarm clock we sometimes turn it off without us knowing it.

I didn't know it was a mainstream concept. Maybe we should egg heavy sleepers to drinking more water at night.

Hey cianoy, it's really a very interesting idea. But for healthy adult only. Children won't hold that long to pee, they will pee in bed instead. Many people won't be able to hold on several hours to pee during the night, my wife is one of them, she gets up two or three times during sleep to pee, it's not going to work for her :)

Well now that you've mentioned it, I wake up 2-3 times a night too. Maybe your wife can lessen her intake just before bed by a glass. Maybe that will push the schedule by a few hours.

I have done this a few times. It does work for me. Sometimes I dont even realize I'm doing it, and before bed I drink way to much water and I wake up 4-5 hours later to go to the bathroom. I dont really have time to take naps as I have 4 children that need constant care. When I am able to get them all down for naps, I have done this a few times.

Welcome to the club. It beats any old alarm clock doesn't it?

Yeah I did and I end up wetting my bed. Another disadvantage is that you might as well just wake up in the middle of the night because of you being an excessive drinker, water that is. :D Better still: Get yourself a dog, he'll wake you up when he finds it's time to do his thing on the street. It has taught me one thing though: Never sleep over at a friend's house when they have a dog. That thing jumped right on me and I nearly got an heart attack, figuratively.

That probably works for most people. I remember drinking a lot of water and then dreaming as clear as a bell that I was in the bathroom. I wet the bed.

Oh dear...well the bottom line is that it probably still woke you up. ;-)

I've done that when I have to be up in a couple of hours. A liter of water when I'm not otherwise thirsty works in about two or three hours, and so far I've not awakened with a wet bed.

Glad to know I'm not alone. I was starting to think I was weird.
