Do your pets "know"?

I got out of my vehicle this morning, and was 200 yards from my destination, when my dog Sherlock started shaking very hard in my arms. And once again he seemed to have realized where we were going before we actually entered the facility - the veterinarian's office. Do your pets seem to know beforehand that they are going somewhere they don't like, such as the vet's?

Oh yes, they certainly know by instinct. My sister had three labradors and she had a station wagon so they could jump into the back and she would drive to the woods where they enjoyed running etc. She took them out twice a day so they were used to the vehicle. But anytime she wanted to take themto the vet they would not get into the car. I just don't know how they knew but they did. They would shake and go limp - it was really funny to see her trying to get them into the back of the car.

Yes, they always do. Especailly since these visits are commonly the only time they are ever in the car. Our oldest cat Milo will yowel incessantly from the back seat both to and from the vet, while our dog must sit on my husbands lap in the passenger seat, otherwise he will shake incessantly in the back. Luckly he's only a 25lb Mini Schnauser and not a great dane or other large breed dog. LOL

Tell me more. My dogs know when they enter my car where they are going. They are shaking. I have to take one dog at the time, because they hate going to vet clinic.
Speaking about my cat, she is crying all the time if taken into the car.

My cats knew when they were going to the vets and they knew also that no matter how much they tried to hide, under the bed or wherever, I would eventually find them and they would have to go. Boy were they happy on the ride home - they even purred from the minute they were back in the car for the whole of the return journey.
One of them even knew when it was my son coming to visit. Seemed like he had a different way of knocking on the door and only when he arrived would they run and sit waiting for me to open it to allow him in. Other people would arrive and knock but the would sit absolutely ignoring whoever was about to walk in.

Maybe he sees your boyfriend as a rival and realises he will have competition in receiving your affection

Of course they do. Their noses know. A different groomer came to our house to clip and bath our Scotty. He knew immediately what she was there for even though he had never met her before. She had the smells on her he associated with grooming and he didn't like it one bit.
I had to tell her, for the first time ever, to put a muzzle on him before starting the procedure because he actually growled at her. That's something he never did before.

I realize animals "know", I just thought it was incredible that I was so far away from the vet's office, we hadn't been there in 6 months, and he just knew. I have no idea why some people have so little regard for animals, because they are incredibly smart, you know what I mean?

I totally agree with you. They are much smarter than we sometimes give them credit for being. My Scotty and Mr. Smokey Bones, our cat, constantly amaze me at how they figure out situations.

My cats know when they are going to the veternarian because that is the only time they ever get in the vehicle. So I'm not sure if it is the ride or the veternarians office that they don't like. Probably both!

My gray cat, I have to spell Vets and other words or he will go away for a long time or hide. I now have appointments in the winter time so he won't take off for very long. Otherwise I have to keep cancelling appointments because he listens to my phone calls. If he sees a door open at the doctor's office, he's a runner. I keep telling the vets that you can't open doors after I take him out of carrier. But they forget and the chase is on!
My orange cat, when I take him out of the car and it's not to our house, he has a whining meow. When he sees another person in a white coat, he does another whining meouw that's like, "OOOOhhh, not again."

My dog Cassie is the only canine I know that gets excited at the prospect of a trip to the vet! The reason for that may be that she is twelve years old but has been lucky enough to only go to the vet for her annual check up and shots because so far she has been very healthy so to her a trip to the doctor is just another fun thing to do! As far as my cats go, I often place them in their carrier and take them somewhere so they wouldn’t immediately sense a journey to the veterinarian.

Dogs around the age of 18Mons to 36 mons have the knowledge of a child 10 - 13 years old. Some dogs know more. People just take it for granted that dogs r DUMB. For people that think that they r the dumb. I train dogs, within the first few minutes of being introduced to them can find out many - many things. Most of the time you can see by the way they act , I can tell who is in control of the situation, them or the owner. To ease some of the fears they have of places they do not like. Stop your vehile, get out with your dog and walk around. Let them get used to the surroundings, they will start relaxing, them enter the building. DO NOT CARRY THEM IN, THEY CAN SENSE YOUR TENSION AND WILL REACT TO IT. Introduce them to the place, people and things around them.
REMEMBER ALWAYS LUV/ CARE FOR DOG/ PET, THEY WILL ALWAYS LUV U....

Unfortunately, yes. It's not the vet so much as it is fleaing day. The vet only comes once a year, hopefully. Fleaing time comes every month.
If I'm going to flea them, I can't even get them to come in from outside. They come in every day, sometimes 10 times or more. They go outside to go potty. But on the day I'm going to flea them, they just take one look at my face and I can go to blazes before either of them will come in. I don't have anything in my hand, no scent, but they'll look at my face really intently, and then they run the other way. I didn't know I was so obvious!

My dog Emma Sue loves going to the vet. She doesn't seem to shake at all when I take her in there. She doesn't mind shots or anything. She loves the attention of her Vet and the Vet techs at the place where she goes. They are just really really good with her and love her to pieces. There has only been one time that she yelped when getting a shot, but it is because it hit a muscle that she didn't much care for. Other than that, she loves her Vet!

Absolutely and without a doubt. Animals, especially dogs are very intuitive. My friend's mother catches a cab home from work every evening. I have been at my friend's house when her dog came running to the front deck and started barking and going stupid and all excited for no reason at all, or so I thought. I said to my friend 'what's he barking at?'
My friend said "Mum will be home in a minute". Sure enough, about five minutes later the cab pulled into the driveway!
He couldn't have recognised the sound of the cab, because she comes home in a different cab every day obviously, so all I can put it down to is scent! Either that or they're even more perceptive than we think. Dogs never cease to amaze me.

I think our pets can remember places. If they
have a bad time, I believe they can remember.
If they could not remember things, how do we
think If they go off they will come back. They
know where they belong. They know many things,
I think we do not give them enough credit.
Happy posting.

I think that pets are very intelligent in that way! It's amazing and sometimes it can even be referred to as a miracle. Animals have this kind of sense and they can sense when something is wrong and when they travel to some place and have a bad experience the definitely remember that place! Still, they are very lovable and can really prove to be a man's best friend at times! Andrew
