Worse Class You Ever Had

When I was in college I had to take some gen ed course and I choose astronomy as one. As all the other classes were filled up, I was stuck. The teacher I had was young and inexperienced but instead of teaching he was checking out the female students in his classroom. There was no discussions, no explanations whatsoever about astronomy. He basically was reading off the textbook. Thus, when we had questions he couldn't answer them. Knowing this, everyone just kind of went to class just to be there. That was one of the worse class I've ever had. For over 3 months, I had to watch him stumble and show his perversity. I mean I could have seen it in a positive way but I learned nothing and felt I wasted my time as well. Have you ever had a worse class or even classroom experience? Please share.

I feel your pain. It sounds like your instructor was a real tool. Not to mention that Astronomy is a pretty hard class. My worst class was in my freshman year. I had to take a public speaking class. I'd given a couple of reports in the front of the class in high school, but nothing like this. The class was full, and it was held in a lecture hall with about 150 students. So it's my first semester, I was in a new place, surrounded by strangers, and I wanted to crawl under my desk and die. We had an outlined plan of speeches we had to give throughout the course, but my professor was pretty sadistic. She did an exercise with us every class. She would pick a handful of students randomly, and put their names on the board at the beginning of class. These people would have to prepare and give a speech by the end of class. Then our professor and the entire class would critique it. It had to be five minutes long, no more, no less, on any subject we felt like talking about. On top of that we were videotaped so we could go back to see what was good, and where the speech fell apart. It was horrific! It wasn't even graded! To my professors credit, we all got over our fear of public speaking. On the first day when we heard about this exercise one of the girls in class spoke up mentioning that it seemed unfair. The instructor just smiled and said,"This is a public speaking class, what did you think you'd be doing?" That girl had to go first:)

Wow, at least you're teacher was actually teaching, this guy was just stammering and making the time go so slooooooooow and making astronomy so uninteresting. But I think you've got yourself a teacher who doesn't take fail for an answer. It's either you pass or don't attend. thanks for sharing!

The worse class I had was my Sociology class with a very different teacher. I didn't like his class because he would never call me. It was the worse too because it was the subject where I got the lowest mark in all my years in college. I didnt like to study that subject and I was always absent. He even told me after the semester that I was suppose to fail but felt pity for me because I have to retake the subject but he didnt know its okay for me to retake that subject as long as he's not going to be my teacher. lol

Wow, it seems like you had a teacher who had a preference for certain students. I've seen a couple of those and they like to call the ones which gives responses which you'll recognize and to their liking. I think that's wrong but I'm glad you at least passed as he softened up and thank goodness not another repeat. That would be double the pain.

The worse class I have ever attended to in college was the HUMANITIES subject. It's not the subject that sucks but the professor. We paid the professor to sit and let us study for our selves and memorize that damn humanities book to get ready to report anytime that he wants too. This subject sucks and I dropped it wahaha.

Hi thuhuong
My worst class was certainly chemistry! Being a total idiot at math, O level chemistry is the last thing that anyone like me would want to take
During the first year we had a horrible teacher. She didn't come into class, and didn't explain anything about chemistry to us. Since we knew nothing about chemistry, we always ended up copying from our reference books to complete homework. There are days she suddenly make us go to the board and complete chemistry equations and if we didnt do it correctly she'll say things about us that are not exactly pleasent to the ears.
She's still teaching till today (I am out of highschool already) and we hear numerous complains about her bad teaching but at least now she's been trying to improve. I guess people to learn after a while to make themselves better.
It was really horrible that we learned nothing, and I felt that I have wasted my time.
After one year was over with her, we had another chemistry teacher. he's really bad. So it was generally 2 year's of being clueless, feeling like an idiot and failing in exam.
I'll never learn chemistry again thanks to this horrible experience!
Have a nice day!

Hi Kyla, Oh poor you. Don't worry, another one gone will have another one in. Even though I enjoyed astronomy in general the teacher was just horrible that the planets seemed to aligned nowhere but in his pants which was where his eyes seemed to be finding. I learned something though, you can't stop what's out there, but you can certainly start with you. Sorry for the proverbs LOL perhaps they say less with much to mean. Good luck on your mathematical endeavor and may the numbers align within you. Have a great day!

When I was in highschool I did one year of exchange in Germany, so I when I just arrived I didn't speak German and I had to take physics and math in German! It was so bad, so boring! and my classmates kept telling me to write down everything so I would learn German faster.. haha it was really bad. Afterwards I learned German but quitted those lessons and it was a very cool year!

At least you had the option to choose. I didn't I felt if the teacher was going to stare at another young lady, I was going to throw the book at him! But how horrible it was for you have to learn something in another language of no knowledge at all. That's worse than astronomy. How would you say 'this sucks' in german?

I would say any history class I attended. I really am bored with history and can't stand having to listen to things about the past. I know it's good to learn about the past as it shows what affects it's had on our present state, I just can't get into it.

Hi Thuhuong,
I guess we all had them, the worst class, the worst teacher. I particularly remember a Math teacher in high school. After each quiz or exam, he would write the top five students on the board. That was find with me (I always find my name in there, modesty aside). But then on the opposite side, he will also list down those who were at the bottom 5. While he said he's doing it to encouraged those that didn't do well in the exam, I find it unnecessary and very humiliating on the part of those who were in the bottom 5 list. And to think he didn't even teach us well, no one understood his explanations and whenever we asked questions, he would answer us by saying, you research it and report to the class, when it was just apparent that he didn't know the answer too.

Astronomy wasn't my worst class, but it was definitely not what I expected. I was thinking oh I would learn about the planets and stars - which I did have an interest in . . . but it turned out to be more about formulas and it involved mathematic stuff (which I didn't have an interest in) - so it was rather difficult for me.
The worst class I ever had was this Renaissance Art History class in college. I was an art major, and I loved art history . . . but the instructor was AWFUL. The man was truly an expert in this period of art, but geez he had such strong opinions about everything. It was his way or the highway. If we raised our hands to ask any questions, he give you the eye and answered in a tone as if we were stupid - and after a while anyone who dared to ask anything quivered. This quizzes were sooooooooooo hard - I don't know anyone who got a good grade on them no matter how hard we studied. It was a terrible class, but we couldn't really complain because he just happened to also be the head of the art history department - ah!!!

It will depend on what kind of proctor or professor. I got bored easily if she/he discussed everything verbatim. The class do too. And had those experience way back when I was in 2nd year college. I had to passed, so I still attended the class.
