Would you:
1. volunteer for animal shelters or rescue centers
2. volunteer for relief efforts (such as in Haiti)
3. volunteer for sick people
4. volunteer in the homes for the aged
5. volunteer as teacher in remote areas
6. volunteer for infrastructure/roads repair/establishment
7. volunteer for saving the environment
8. Others (and what is that?)
Why? I'd love to hear from you!

In the past I have volunteered in homes for people with special needs. I liked that very much and when I want to volunteer again, I would definately be interested in a place like that again. I have also thought about volunteering in homes for the aged, because I love to work with people, and before I got ill I was planning on becoming a nurse. I worked in homes for the aged, when I was a student and I liked it very much.
In my country there is an organization where you where you can find someone to visit you in your home once a week or something like that, and you can join if you are lonely and would like to get a visit from a volunteer. I have thought about becoming one of the those people who visit other people (most elderly people) in their homes.

I think I would choose volunteering for saving the environment. I'm not good in dealing with people, I don't have a lot of patience especially if I know that it's a volunteer work. The environment thing seems to be the only option there where minimal social contact is involved.

I think as a volunteer, I'd go for teaching in remote areas, home for the aged and saving the environment since I value these three things the most-- education, people and the environment. Since I am also a teacher why not use it to educate especially in remote areas? That would really be a great experience.
Once, I have experienced teaching in the home of differently-abled people it was a great feeling being with them :) Since they're all boys I have to adjust to their interests and can't believe they even taught me basketball despite that most of them are lepers and can only move through wheelchairs. It was really fascinating to see them because despite their condition, I can see they're still being productive in their own ways.
I also experienced teaching kids in barangays about Bible stories and would ask them weekly what good deeds they have done for the whole week. The kid who got the most number of good deeds done per week will be given a big round of applause and a special gift :) Hahaha.
With those experiences, my life has become more meaningful and productive and it would be really nice if ever I'd have those opportunities again to teach. :) With my three choices I haven't done volunteering for the environment yet but I would love to if given the chance. :) I believe environmental issues are also important and those should not be neglected especially now that global warming is arising. :( Besides I believe that we are all caretakers of the earth, and we should leave this earth knowing that we contributed to make it a better place not just for people but for the environment as well. :D

I am so proud of you! You know what, that is my sister's dream--to teach in places where high-quality education isn't present.
It's such a heartwarming experience to dedicate your time to these people and see them smile and be happy because of your help.
I personally believe that these small things make a person deeply happy more than fat paychecks from a corporate job.

i'd prefer to be a
volunteer for animal shelters or rescue centers
because, i love animals and more important thing is when humans get affected the news becomes really big and there will be many helping hands but you are talking about animals many do not even know what is happening around. if a person kills 100 dogs just for fun.. it does not make a difference to the human society and if a dog is struck in a building which is on fire most people do not care for it. that is why i think i will make a difference being a volunteer for animal shelters or rescue centers

So you mean to say that more people help other people as well while animals are cared less for. That may be true. But thank God there are already a lot of people concerned for animals. They need to keep growing. I hope there will come a time when that happens for real for you. That's be a great experience.

i am denying the fact that many people are involved in saving animals.. but i do feel many people should get themselves involved.. in helping those poor creatures..

I spend a large amount of time volunteering for several agencies. In November and December, I work with the Salvation Army Angel Tree Progam. We provide Christmas assistance for families by providing toys, clothing and jackets. This is very rewarding when you see the parents faces as they learn that there will be gifts under the tree for Christmas morning. I don't know how many times I have had a mother so overwhelmed by the gifts she was recieveing that she would just cry (tears of joy of course). I also volunteer by helping collect needed items for Meals on Wheels, CVFB - the local food bank, Vetrans First, Wounded Warrior Program, YWCA - battered womens shelter and of course the church. I am very fortunate to have been put in contact with a retail store that when they are changing the store set and writting off items that they donate them to me so that I get those items into the hands of people that need them. So in a small way I am also volunteering for the enviornment as those items do not end up in a landfill.
Volunteering is an extremely rewarding project. I can not say it enough or loud enough PLEASE VOLUNTEER. Your community is counting on you. No matter how small you think what you are doing is it will make HUGE changes to people/things around you.

I hold a full time job. I reserve all of my vacation time for the months of October, November and December in order to volunteer for the Christmas programs. The other things I volunteer for do not take up nearly the time that most people think. I do the item collection and distribution on the weekend and in the evenings when I get home from work. I also utilize the help of my two kids to do this becuase I feel that it is important for them to learn the spirit of volunteering also.

Hey mj! If I was going to volunteer I would choose to volunteer
at an animal shelter and rescue center! Since I am an avid
animal activist I would definitely want to do everything that
I could possibly do to save as many animals as I could! The only
problem with this is that I know me and I would want to take
all the homeless animals with me and try to keep them! I am
such a sucker for a sad faced animal! But, that would definitely
be my number one choice!

I don't have any plans to do volunteer work in the near future, but I may do if a situation comes. The only serious voluntary work I did was for a church. I was working with a Christian organization at that time. We stayed in a costal area and did some work for the construction of church there. My husband likes a lot of volunteer work and he did for people affected by Tsunami.

3.I would like to be a volunteer for sick people.
Last month, I've witnessed an organization volunteered and conducted a feeding program to a hospital in Quezon. It was a heartwarming experience because some of them were Cancer patients and I had the chance to talk to a little girl who's suffering from Leukemia. Her name was Ana. She was eleven years old and she'd been in the hospital since January. I asked her if she wanted to go back to school. She nodded and I could tell through her eyes that she was longing to be with her friends and study with them again. The visit lasted for a while and everyone was there for a reason that time- a reason to remember deep inside our hearts and minds everyday. I will be willing to share and spend my time with people like them.

This is an easy one for me. I went to school to become a Veterinary Technician, because I'm an animal lover. Therefore, I would prefer to work in an animal shelter, or a zoo. What else would an animal lover do?

It was my dream of becoming a doctor when I was young. I told myself that I would volunteer as a doctor in areas that are really far from the city where people dont have a lot of access to medical care. I wasnt able to achieve that dream but if I am a doctor now, I will still go for that volunteer work I wanted to do when I was still young.
