Does music help you release stress?

Have you ever been so mad that you turned an angry song up super loud and sang at the top of your lungs to it? Did you feel better after doing so? Whenever I get mad about something, I either go listen to my "angry" songs on my iPod or sing some on my guitar. Sometimes I've wondered if this just makes me angrier or if it prevents me from taking my anger out on someone else. Sometimes, I make a conscious effort to listen to positive and upbeat music when I'm upset or sad. It cheers me up instantly. Like a facelift for your brain! =P How does music affect your mood?

Music really helps me a lot to feel better when I'm not. I tend to listen to bossa nova music, the rhythm, beat and everything about bossa nova music just make me feel a lot better. I feel like it's very relaxing and comforting.

yes, believe it or not metal helps me relieve a great deal of stress. it is soo right up my alley rebellious and angry. i don't go around being violent and smashing things, because i have to be a parent to my kids. i certainly feel like it and live vicariously through heavy metal. it gives me an energy that no other form of music can. "positive" music will only make me more frustrated if i don't feel in that kind of mood...im like, "what b.s, the world doesn't work like that!". i guess it just depends on how i feel.

Haha Moon Gypsy, sometimes I say that too when a happy-sappy song comes on the radio and I'm mad. I love that music is an outlet for us though!

yes, the music, either just to be heard or played, it can reduce stress ... I do not know how to explain it scientifically, but that's what I felt, when I'm stressed, I try to play the guitar or listening to music, and the result, my stress is gone

I agree, it's amazing how our feelings can be put to rest and calm just by playing or listening to music. Maybe we should incorporate more music in our lives, and we would feel better more often!

yes it is specially if i cant sleep coz my mind keep on wandering about things. i have compilation of instrumental music for me to listen to distract my mind and concentrate to the music instead til i sleep. they also said that as one way of meditation, sometimes it works but sometimes not coz of the noise from car from busy street even in the middle of the night.

I put my iPod earbuds in so I can't hear any outside noises. Instrumental songs help me fall asleep very quickly too. I have this one song that is piano music over the sounds of the ocean. Lights out for me! =P

I don't have angry music like you do! Hello baumunkgirl! But when I'm sad or trying to feel better I do listen to music! I like christian music because its raises my spirit! I have a friend that years ago had a special cassete with songs of anger when she broke up with boyfriends! She sang very loud crying and singing with so much passion, her sister, my sister and I laughed a lot for that casette and the hole situation. But it worked for her so we where there for her! I think music is very powerful talking about feelings and staying positive! Happy mylotting, Libna!

definitely... i love music and i like to sing as well... singing and listening to music really make me relax and soothe my mood whenever i feel down... but i don't like pop and heavy music... i prefer a soft, classic and jazzy type of music like bee gees and abba... take care and have a nice day...

Definitely YES!! It has always been a practice or shall I say a habit of mine to listen to music every night just before I go to sleep. I am sure you will agree with me that listening to music relaxes the mind and body especially when you hear those which are your favorites. I especially like love songs, pop and ballad, and acoustics and instrumentals. I cannot imagine my life without music! I think i wouldn't live if music wasn't invented! HAHAHA!

I would wish to vent out my anger using music but the times when I want to do that, it always happens to be in the middle of the night. I don't want the police to come knocking on my doors so in the end, I never. If relieving stress, I go for songs which are sentimental to me and it does helps me to cry out loud and get over with the negative feeling that I had felt. Music has been and always will be part of my interest and I really think it's can make me feel sleepy, happy, relieve, or even sympathetic. Especially watching films which goes very well with the scene. Thus, music is like everything to me. Did you know, even when you stop to do nothing and listen to the sounds around you, sometimes it can also be a music of its own (I heard of this explanation which comes from musical piece where nothing is played and the sound that comes from every where is the music itself)

Music has a calming affect on me. No matter what mood i am in, whenever i turn on the music, i actually feel much better. Such a shame i cannot take my earphones to work. That would be a great help to get me threw the day. TATA.

Works for me. Especially when I'm really very angry. To mellow down... I would lock myself in the room like a teenager and listen to Candlebox's "Far Behind" I would play that over and over again. And when I feel contented and at ease, I try to switch to a much more calming music so when I get out of the room there won't be any trace of disgust of anger.

music is good way to release stress but as for me it depends on what kind of music am i am going to play , if it is a rock music so it is not a good choice just get more headache ,but with music of Beethoven :"moonlight Sotana" and many more it is one of the best way to calm down.
