This is probably one of the least important questions on Mylot lol but does anyone know why red onions are described as red when they are actually purple?

Donna, I think you are mistaking about the color of onions. Color of onion is some thing like brown. There are red onions also. Color is not so much important. The important is onion is good for strong heart.

May be for the same reason a purple skin is described as blueness, cyanosis, redness, hyperpigmentation, or dark skin.

Red Onions are also called Purple Onions. Even though they are all mostly purple. It has to do with language in the scientific naming (genus, species). I actually had to look this question up, so your welcome:)While the question wasn't one of those earth-moving "Why are we here?" questions, I found it haunting.
