Hi myLotters! What is the practice in your home in terms of the usage of eating utensils? Do each member has his/her own plate and tumbler/drinking mug or you are sharing it to all? Or maybe you are just setting aside those for the family members from those for the visitors? For you personally, do you prefer to have a personal one or it doesn't matter to you? In our home, we used to have each family member his/her own plate and tumbler/mug. I also prefer it that way. How about you, what is the practice on your home and what do you prefer personally? I would be glad to know. Have a great day! Happy myLotting! :)

Hi cloud31! It's good to know that you have also your personal eating utensils, and you even have a name on your mug, that's really cool! It's a good and healthy practice so keep it up! Thank you for responding and have a great day! :)

We share all utensils here. All plates, glasses, spoons, forks, everything. We just wash them thoroughly after use. The only exception is when someone is sick. He should have his own temporary stuff until after he's better.

Hi frontvisions! Yes I believe many family are doing the same practice as yours. Yes, just wash them well and it's ok. Having a family member who is sick is exception and he/she should really have his/her own for the meantime until he/she gets well. Thank you for responding and have a great day! :)

we have no special or personal table utensils. everyone who comes in and dine with us can use them. though i have my favorite plate and spoon, visitors can also use them. me and my wife have one big mug that we use to share our coffee. but anyone can also use it. we brought out some few pieces for our daily use but when there is a occasion, we can also bring out some few pieces from the cabinet to accommodate the number of guests.

Hi neildc! It's a good attitude for your family to share everything even to your guests. That's just being kind I guess. Thank you for responding and have a great day! :)

Hi saphrina! There's no stupidity about that, we also have the same practice here and I find it a good one. Just avoid getting mad when you are holding your knife or fork. Lol! Thank you for responding and have a great day! :)

Im living with my parents again and my mother is so strict when it comes to cups, we all have our own cups, my mother hates my cup, she says its ugly and doesnt match the rest in the cupboard lol! But then she has 2 cups, one for the morning and one for hot milk in the evening (dont know why she cant just have one) then everyone else has their own, then we have cups that are for visitors, these are thin cups and have flowers on them and we also have cups for builders, not that we have a lot of building work done but just incase. We use any plates thankfully, I dont think I could cope if there were rules about what plate I could use.

Hi auntiescarf! Hahaha, there are really people like that. They want their things not to be used by others, specially personal ones such as eating utensils. It became their practice so if we came from that kind of family, we just have to follow it. Maybe your mother is just being careful. I don't find it negative practice actually as it was also our practiced. Thank you for responding and have a great day! :)

Yeah I dont think there is anything wrong with it, actually I like having my own cup, Ive had it for years and its bigger so can get more in it, which is why my mother hates it lol! I actually thought everyone had their own cup in every house haha, so its good that you asked this as now I know that not everyone does it!

Your cup is really nice since it's big. Maybe it's just too old already and your mother just want you to replace it with a new one. You can also do that and just keep it and it will serve as souvenir. Lol! Yes, each one of has grown from different practices. :)

no, i do not need to have a personal mug or tumbler at home... i live with my family at, of course, why do i need to have my personal mug or tumbler? we are family, we are not different from and to each other.. my siblings were from one womb... is it not insulting to my family if i will have my own mug? it is, isn't it?
if i am sick and it is contagious of course i will risk them.. okay?

Hi shigeraldz! Yes, there's really nothing wrong to share them, unless a member is sick and more if it's contagious. But some family just have a practice to have a personal one to every member, and there's also nothing wrong about that. It's just depends on the preference. Thank you for responding and have a great day! :)

hi Harold-ks I am staying here at Gold Crest retirement center and no we have no such luxuries as privater anything when it somes to dinnerware. In my room I do have my own cup large enough to hold two cups really.
Some residents bring their own larger cups down to use but its really a hassle and I just opt for one of their bigger cups. all are washed in huge dishwashers and dryers so all is sanitary here.one of these days when my son does get a job I will move out of here, thank God for that.

Hi hatley! Yes, there's really no personal plates there, but all eatingwares are cleaned and sanitized well so no problem. Yes, I'm also hoping that you can get out from there and be with your son again. Just pray, God is good. Thank you for responding and have a great day! :)

I have a stripy colorful plate that I use for me most of the time. My husband has used it a couple of times before too. I let my kids eat out bowls that have certain colors. My daughter eats out of the hot pink bowl. And my son eats out of the lime green bowl. There is many times that we all will eat out of the same bowls. I have big cereal bowls that are purple and white. I use these. My husband and kids has too.

Hi cream97! You have a nice set of plates. It's good to have each member has their own but since you are family, sometimes when one member use the other, it doesn't matter at all. You have a good practice actually. Thank you for responding and have a great day! :)

Hi Harold! I also prefer to have at least my own drinking cups
and mugs! My boyfriend and I have the same mugs, but we do know
which ones are which! Since we use different ones at different
times we can keep track!lol As for plates and eating utensils,
we share those! As long as they are all washed it doesn't matter!
The only things we like to have for our own is our drinking mugs!
It would be to difficult for us to keep track of our plates and
utensils! We just put them in the sink, wash them and use them
again! We don't mind sharing them!

Hi opal26! Yes It's better to have a personal cups or mugs and other eating utensils, but with boyfriend/girlfriend, I guess there's nothing wrong to share. I can share mine too. Thank you for responding and have a great day! :)

I have 6 children aswell as that there are me and my husband, so we have full dinner services that all match so we just grab any plate, bowl or cup as thay all look the same.We all have personal cups that people have brought us like at birthdays etc that are personalised with things on them but i just grab a mug from the selection that we have. All my plates, bowls and cups are washed in a dishwasher so i do not mind who uses what.

Everything here is shared. Hubby has a plate he prefers (a blue plastic one) and I have one I use more often (a small floral patterned one I got from my grandmother) but its not unheard of for us to use each others favorite dishes if our own is dirty.

Hi nonersays! Yes, there's nothing wrong to share eating utensils with the family member. It's just depends on the practice you have grown up. Thank you for responding have a great day! :)

Hi udayrao2! Yes, it doesn't need to personalized, a simple distinction like color is good enough to have each member a personal one. Thank you for responding and have a great day! :)

hi Harold!I have a big family of five members. In my home,we have different designed utensils. We each have our own bowl, drinking mug,and pair of chopsticks. We share the same plate. As in my country,we eat together from one dish. But we wash them together,so i doubt if there is any meaning that we use different bowls, mugs and chopsticks.
Have a good day!
