I was born in Germany and came to America when I was 19. I'm still German and probably stay that way forever unless the change the laws and I have to change my nationality to American. I love it here and plan on staying for another 26 years, but every time a sporing event like "Soccer" or any kind of competition is on TV I always cheer for the Germans.. I guess you never forget were you came from. You think that's wrong since I lived in America for 26 years?

I don't think that is wrong. It's just a sport, and it is just natural that you would support the country that you came from. There is nothing wrong in that. For me, I don't mind if anyone support what ever country in sport. It is after all a sport, which is suppose to bring all nationalities come together. If you go back to Germany now, you might find that you are supporting American team.

Totally. It's not like you enlisted for the marines or something in the US and you fight for Germany. It is not a crime to support a team. So, go on, Cheer for whichever team you want. I will cheer you on.....

No, cheer as much as you like too! And whatever team you want to cheer for. Haven't been living abroad for 26 years, I only lived abroad for 2 years, but in those two years I actually followed how Norway did in sporting events etc much more than I do when I'm at home. I did stay away from Norwegians those years though, especially at big sporting events or our national holiday. Many tend to get terribly drunk when we're celebrating, and I found that terribly annoying when noone else was drunk. Except of course the Swedes and the Finns (and the Brits). Anyway, I think you should go on cheering for Germany :-)

Being German I know what it means to drink and get drunk and then let the cheering begin.

No, that's not wrong to me. Even if you will become American Citizen, your blood is still German. And no matter how long you live in a certain country not your own, you will never forget the place you came from and your loyalty is still there. Like me? I am from the Philippines. Even if I am now in America but still my heart belongs to the Philippines so therefore I am always loyal to my fellow Filipinos. My heart goes with them.

It is quite natural and normal.Your motherland is Germany and you are just living in America for any purpose. And you have all the memories related to Germany, your mother country. How can somebody expect you to forget all.It is not a sin or crime.Just carry on.

I think we should be supporting the current country unless its just a temporary stay. We should respect the culture, games and anything related to the country we stay, may not be the same country we born. What I said is that we are supposed to follow but this is hard to do, I am Indian and if I turn to be citizen of some other country, India would be still my first love. in theory its easy to say that we sould love current country but not always practical.

There's nothing wrong with that. You're just cheering for a team. There's something terribly wrong if for instance You're a german soldier and you killed another german for americans.

Hi missy bear: I don't think it's wrong. I mean you love Germany because it was the country were you born and you have this affection for you country and you can love America at the same time. There's nothing wrong on this and I think you don't have to stop loving the country where you came from just because you live in America and just I have heard somewhere, you'll never forget home. Thanks for sharing with us your thoughts. Have a nice day. ALVARO.

Thank you for your response. I did run across people that didn't like me cheering for another country and ask me why I don't go back if I don't like it here. I do like it here otherwise I would go back home but it only feels right to cheer for my country.

Nothing is wrong. Germany grew you up and educated you for 19 years, it's owned that you cheer for Germany. I don't know whether I said above conform west culture. In any case, I'll never foget I come from China, no matter when and where I am.
