For a sleepy afternoon

Do you feel tired after lunch? I find myself nodding off sometimes so I need something to perk myself up. If you are experiencing something similar, here's a joke to wake you up:
A man was standing at the junction, an errant car came along and killed him and he went up to heaven. In heaven, he argued and begged that since he was a good man, he should be given a second chance to live. The authorities agreed to his request and he came back alive.
He decided to live a more fulfilling life, he ate good food, took holidays and had a complete makeover. The next week, he was again killed at the same spot. So he went up to heaven again. This time, the authorities said, "Why did you have that makeover, we couldn't recognize you, so you are here again and this time it is irreversible!"
Ok, I hope this is funny enough to wake you, anyway I did wake up because of all that typing.
btw, there isn't really a question here, so feel free to comment on anything, either on sleepiness (if you have that) or on the joke (if you find or don't find it funny).
happy mylotting.

As for me, I get sleepy easily especially after eating lunch. It's like I have not slept the recommended number of hours for my age. haha... but seriously, I keep myself busy during those times so I could overcome the sleepiness. Here are some tips on how you could stay awake during the siesta time based on my own experience:
1. MyLot (i'm starting to enjoy this!)
2. walk, walk, walk (i don't care wherever it is: in a nearby mall, or in the parking lot of your office, just burn those fats!)
3. search for interesting jokes and stories that you could read, and share it with your peers to have a good laugh
4. have a handy mint candy
5. do your toothbrush routine. (wash your face, retouch your makeup, etc.)
hope this helps! :)

hello bluemoonpavilion! You asked what's the recommended no. of hours to sleep for any age? Well, I could answer for adults like us is seven to eight hours of sleep...
Here's the article you might find very informative about sleep and health...

Please tell me what's the recommended no. of hours to sleep for any age? I seem to be perpetually not getting enough sleep
For your suggestions:
1. Definitely top of the list
2. I would go make a cuppa tea, no outside trips though
3. That's what I just did
4. Yes, I have that
5. Haven't tried that one yet
Thanks, your suggestions are certainly helpful!

That's really a funny joke. :-)
I usually feel very sleepy after eating lunch. Maybe because I always eat a lot during lunch time. If I can't resist it, I try to take a power nap even just for 10 minutes. I don't get enough sleep already like 8 hours each night since I gave birth. I'm always awak because of my baby. That's why I really feel so tired and sleepy in the afternoon.

Good mother! I always sympathize with mothers, especially the new ones, they are forever in a lack of sleep state. Power naps are especially useful in this case and I'm glad you are doing that.

hi bluemoonpavilion sometime but its more to do with whether or not my blood glucose is normal or running high. If its high I can fall asleep
while typing but I hate to nap as it interferes with my night time
sleep habits. I liked your joke, really funny but I am also sleepy now after breakfast and hate that feeling as its high blood sugar.Shame on me.

Dear hatley, take care and monitor your blood glucose well. Is it something you can't control? I thought low blood glucose make us sleepy and eating a sweet would help? Please correct me if I'm wrong.

At some point in the afternoon, I do actually feel a little sleepy. It's usually around three o'clock when I usually feel a little tired, for one reason or another. There are days, when it doesn't happen. However, more often than not, it does seem to take place.

Those days that happened, it could be because you had a fuller lunch or taken something with carbohydrate, that usually makes us more sleepy than usual.

We can take a nap after lunch but not after dinner, it might affect our sleep later on.

My day starts early. By afternoon, i could definitely find myself in that sleepy mode. If I think that this feeling is creeping up on me, i quickly go find something to occupy my time. The evening will come soon enough. That is my time to relax and unwind.

It's good to start your day early. I know some people wake up at 5am and I can't imagine how he does that! I always linger and get up at the last moment

Oh well I just really thought you are going to give us advise to avoid the sleepy afternoon because that is usually my big big problem. There are times we had meeting after lunch and then I am trying my best to be attentive but then I could only control a little bit that my body really wants me to sleep.

What I did when I have to sit still and try to keep awake, effective and discreet for meetings:
1) poke my nails into my palm or knuckles, pain keeps me awake
2) push my tongue against the roof of my mouth
3) wiggle my toes
4) flexing my fingers
Hope this helps!

Haha it was funny though it didn't exactly perk up. Though I always feel tired after lunch and since then I always labeled it food coma.

It's more like mood coma for me, when I want to close my eyes, I have no mood for anything!

I do feel sleepy, right now. Just had my lunch. I try to drink coffee at 2 however It has no effect on me anymore. Try to walk or keep yourselves busy with mylot, just like what I'm doing right now... earning money at the same time, while trying to keep myself awake.

Are you a coffee addict then? Guess your body has become immune to caffeine...
Yes you are right! mylot is a good cure for sleepiness

Many people rely on a cuppa to keep them awake, I never do that because coffee and tea had a long lasting effect on me. Having caffeine inside me after 3pm would find me awake at night, so I avoid doing that.

Maybe you are relaxing at home after dinner, and you have beautiful night ahead of you, why waste time on dozing off?

It is because we are used of sleeping after lunch way back in our childhood years. I think that it is the cycle in our body.

When there's food in our stomach, blood would rush in there to help digest it, leaving less blood in the brain, that's why we feel sleepy, because there was insufficient oxygen.

I do feel sleepy after lunch. But now i am used to it. So i sometimes sleep during classes. I have learnt to be good at it so that i don't get caught. I could always do with an afternoon nap as i love to stay up in the night and stay on the computer for a long time.

There were times I have really fall flat on my face in the office and that's such an embarrassment. I have since acquired the skill of sleeping while sitting upright and appears to be doing work lol. I stay up late sometimes but I try not to do that anymore as I find it very difficult to sleep after getting too excited from the computer.
