Forgeting the brthday of a friend

I have a problem remembering the birthdays of friends and family.
While I was surfing on hi5, I took a peak at the "Birthdays" tab on the right and saw that tomorrow is the birthday of a very good friend of mine that I've met last year when I went at the beach in Constanta.
I feel guilty if I forget the birthday of a friend and not telling them Happy birthday! I now see that social network websites can be useful sometimes. If it wasn't for hi5 I don't think I could remember her birthday.
What do you do to remember birthdays of friends or family ? Do you take notes on the calendar ?

Well, i can say that i am very good at remembering things and would not require any notifiers for that, especially for birthdays of my friends and closed ones. I try to memorize things like frequent phone or mobile numbers that I dial, birthdays anniversaries etc. it helps in building my memory stronger. Good luck to you my friend!

Thanks for sharing with us bodhisatya. It's good of you that you can memorize birthdays without having any notes. I can memorize birthdays as well but sometimes I forget.
Memorizing phone numbers is a different story. I don't usually fill up my mind with useless stuff.

Hi bodhisatya: Well you are very lucky and I wish I could have this same ability. In my case I can even forget the name of a person I have been working for months. I remember some peoples faces who they are and what do they do but I forget their names. It's weird I think. Maybe I need to make some mental exercises to develop my memory.

@Starsailover it really helps if you allow to exercise your brain by trying to memorise little things like birtdays, seminars, anniversaries or even phone and mobile numbers which you frequently dial. The more you exert your brain the more will it be accustomed to different tasks. I guess the same applies to almost everything in life. You cannot let a thing sit idle or it may catch rust.
Hi Geojb, it was interesting when you mentioned that a simple task of memorizing a phone number of a close one is a "useless stuff"! I beg to differ.

Wow, could you add my birth date, too? It's June 10th.
I only have several good friends, so I add their birthdays into my cell phone calendar together with the birthdays of my Mom and brothers. I set it to ring at 8am, so I can straight away send an sms, or call them.

HI geo jb: I have the same problem with these dates and yeah, social networks are good to make you remember these special dates. In my case I use Facebook to check out and know this information. that's because of my memory. I can only remember my birthday, the birthday of my dad, mom, brother and sister. The rest... I know that feeling, but I always tell my friends that when their b-days coming up to remind me because I am a very forgetful person and I just can't help that.
It's ok as long as you still tell your friend happy birthday even if you are a little bit late they will still appreciate it because it shows that you really do care.
Like I always say better late then never at all. I just love that saying.

It's very good if you ask your friends to remind you of their birthdays. I have 3 friends who celebrate their birthday in the same month - in February plus my brother and his wife are both born in the same day of February. It's easy for me to know when my sisters-in-law birthday is because she is born in the same day my brother is.

Well i also have the same problem. That's why i come online as much as i can but then still i forget many people's birthday and there are some whose i don't forget. Most of all even i purposely change my birthday every few weeks to make sure and maybe to find out who my real friends are. The rest are just normal friends for me that's all. I don't really care about others but they are a few friends i could die for.

Hi raviteja ravi: I am not sure if this proof something. It's all about memory. For example, my best friend in the university, I always forget her birthday. I know it's on August but I am not sure of the right date, maybe August 13rd or something like that... I'll have to check this out. So a birthday is not a proof of loyality because I am her best friend and even with that my bad memory... Thanks for your answer. Have a nice day.

Hi aquariand: I agree with you. When I forgot to say Happy Birthday, there's always the oportunity to celebrate with your friend later. In these cases the intention and the fact that you really wish your friend a happy birthday is what really counts. Thanks for your answer. Have a nice day.

I am also horrible at remembering dates..Good thing every cellphone now has a calendar where you can put some reminder, It saves me from a lot of guilt of not remembering even my mom or dad's birthday!
Social networking sites also plays a very convenient role in reminding some distant friend and relatives of their birth days.

You are not alone as i have the same problem as you do.I also have a diary that i use and yet i still miss it when it is someones birthday so their gift is always abit late.However it is my mums birthday tomorrow and i got her gift over two weeks ago.I am now trying to get everyones gift for christmas as that way i will remember everyones with alot of luck.

I'm also not good in remembering dates of special occasions or celebrations. Most of the time I forget birthdays of friends, relatives and even families. That's why just like you I also find social networks very helpful. I always log in to my account everyday and that's how I'm able to keep up with all the important dates and celebrations specially birthdays.

I only remember my family members' bdays. I only remember my friends' bdays if I am reminded close to the date. You are right, these social networking sites help remind me of my friends' bdays. thanks to facebook I get to greet them during their special day.

I simply recommend you to have a note to every special dates of you love ones to include your friends. When you greet your friend on her/his birthday, you make him happy and simply let him know that he is special.You also can place a note on your cellphone, you can store all the important dates on your cp and set an alarm on it. When that date arrives, it automatically alarm.
