I turned the big 40 this year and everything is making me feel old. Going to friend's parties and remembering things we did when we were in high school and younger and that really is such a long time ago. Some things I still remember as if it was yesterday. Also, seeing my parents turn older is very heart wrenching and not something I want to think about.

I like your discussion!
I feel old when I'm around little kids and they ask me how old I am. And when I tell them, they're like 'Wow, you're old!' And really, I'm not that old! I'm only 19 years old!
I also feel old when I start talking about cartoons or movies that were around when I was younger or certain toys and the children are like 'What is that?' And it's hard to explain.

And the cartoons nowadays are VERY strange. I miss the old cartoons. I saw a cartoon called 'Making Fiends.' And it was about this girl who didn't want any friends and kept trying to kill the one girl who wanted to be her friend. How bizarre!
I shouldn't be allowed to say that either. I'm only 19 years old. But I do miss some of the older things...

I first felt old about 12 years ago when I realized that some of the things my mom bought in the 5&10 were being sold for a lot of money at auction. EG: those cheap little indented Christmas balls and Roseville pottery. I was a real klutz as a kid and I can't remember how many Roseville Magnolia pattern cookie jars I broke. At the time they were dirt cheap and mom just picked up another one while shoping. Still, I wish I had them all now. lol
I remember you are in Canada so I'm not sure how much you would know about US basketball but my brother played varsity basketball at Lower Merion High School and he went back to watch Kobe Bryant play. My brother had played against Kobe's father, "Jellybean" Bryant when the father went to Overbrook and they played against the LM team. My brother said that was when he knew he was getting old.
I guess we all have our own criteria.

Looking back at the cartoons and children shows I used to like, especially when comparing them today's. Also when telling my children what things was like when I was a kid and how other things have changed, I feel older than I am sometimes because of this and I have the habit of a bit of a kid to make up for it.

I'm only 18 and I feel old when I look at old music videos that came out when I was bored and see how ugly everyone dressed! LOL But I know I'm still young and stuff I just feel old when I know I was born when people still dressed in purple pants and polka-dot shirts.

And don't forget the 90's music! They did dress a little strangely though. And their haircuts were a bit out there as well! I'm only one year older than you.

Hi cher, I wish I could tell you that turning 50 is no big deal,
since I am getting closer to that next big number! I honestly
don't remember 50 and I'm getting ready to turn 58 in three
months! One of my best friends turned 50 three days ago! I was
like, "It's about time you're catching up to me!lol And, my
best friend's son will be 22, 9 days before my birthday and I
used to babysit him and change his diapers and now he towers
over me and his mom! Yup, time goes flying by so enjoy every
minute of it! I've slowed down a bit, and can't do all the stuff
I used to and I hate it, but the alternative is alot worse! So
just forget about the number and enjoy yourself! Happy B-Day
whenever it is!

I feel old when I see kids that I use to teach in headstart, or even seeing that my own kids are growing, getting married and having babies of their own. I surely don't feel old mentally, I feel like I might be 25, but my body is aging and I am beginning to have issues with joint health...just trying to stay young mentally...and if I could get these kids to stop aging :)

What makes me feel old . . . hmmmmm. I'm in my early 40's . . . so when I chat with other moms in my 5 year old's classes, I tend to be one of the "older" moms. But that doesn't bother me so much. I don't get carded as often as I used to when I buy booze or cough medicine or whatever that requires you to get carded if you look under a certain age. I'll look at my current photos, and I don't possess that youthful look so much - I can tell I've "aged". When I hear "my" music - from the 80's - it's unbelievable that some of it qualifies as easy listening now - especially in the elevator.

I'm 35 and feel old when people online talk like any actor who's reached 40 is over the hill. Especially when they say so and so looks pretty good for 40. Like being good looking at 40 is a rare thing. It's even weirder when they act like someone younger than me has become decrepit.

Hey Cher,
This could be a very long list for me here...
I would have to say the first time I felt old was when I turned 40 and needed glasses, found my first grey hair and my niece's DAUGHTER took me to lunch. When did I get old enough for my niece to have a daughter????
I am 53 now and when I see the kids I used to babysit when I was young and they are with their kids makes me feel old. Many of their kids are now teens and early 20's. Mind blowing!!
Realizing that in only 9 years I will be eligible for social security makes me feel old. Can't wait..but coming too soon.
When you go to a reunion and you find that many people you knew are now gone makes me feel old.
When I look in the mirror and see all those "smile lines" makes me feel old.
Seeing the "sun spots" on my arms that we used to call age spots makes me feel old.
And taking Centrum Silver vitamins make me feel old, why do they have to call them silver???
There is my list of things that make me feel old.
What makes me feel young, my husband who is 11 yrs younger than I am and tells me that my wrinkles are smile lines, playing on the floor with my Grand Niece, going to an 80's metal concert with my 23 year old Nephew and we both love the music!!
This is what I concentrate on, being a young 53.
Hope you have a great 50, enjoy every moment of it because they go fast. Joyce

There are so many things that make me feel old. Having to have reading glasses to read is one. Can't remember names is another. I call my daughter my sister name etc. Can't jump out the bed in a hurry. Have to wake up constantly at night to use the rest room. Knee aches. High blood pressure, high cholesterol. Acid indigestion, Acid reflux. The list goes on and on. But I still give all the honor and glory to God, for letting get to the age that I am.
