Movies vs. Books. Which are better?

I know for me I prefer to read the book than to watch the movie, because movies always leave out great detail that is in the book. I wouldn't really mind reading the book and then watch the movie, only then I will watch it and get frustrated how the movie is really nothing like the book. Examples are, Twilight, Lord of the Rings, Indian in the cupboard. Would you rather read the book or watch the movie? You don't have to choose between the books I've listed. Just in your own opinion.

For me, I prefer movies. I really have no patience in reading a novel. Don't get me wrong, I also enjoy reading but I don't enjoy reading novels. I usually read a lot of reference materials like magazines and books about architecture, photography, science and more but I have no patience for novels cause I hate it when novels prolong the climax of the story for a couple of pages. Besides I am more of a visual person thats why I enjoy watching movies.

Same like you, I prefer movies than reading a novel stories. I've seen the movies like Lord of the Rings but haven't read the book. I hate the novels to read because it takes long couple of days to complete the story. Suppose if I start to read one page of the novel, I feel sleepy and then I prefer to lie on bed instead of reading books. Mostly, I prefer to watch movies so that I can enjoy by seeing with laughing and crying.

Books are better when you have time or you want a know all the details..movies are good when you just want to enjoy and can compromise with actual story :)

I prefer book, but not all the movie is based on book.I mean moviestory is also wonderful. Because of the beautiful graphic and background,I think that is the reason why movie is popular.

Hands down, I would rather read a book! They are sooo much better, more detailed, and you can use your imagination as to what characters and places look like. And books are original, movies made from books, well - they are just copies. And the movies from books are almost always disapointing in some way. I don't mind seeing the movie after reading a book, it is intersting to see how they change it.

LucyMatteo, I really like what you said about books being original and movies being copies. Though I prefer books to movies, I never thought about it that way. Thanks for sharing! :)

i love to read books best because they fill in all the details but i can't read horror stories just watch the movies because i would be too scared to read a stephen king horror and have all the little details in my head.

i prefer the books more, as i think it gives a better description on the events and feelings especially where the characters face a dilemma, wherein the choices that the characters makes ultimately lead to the outcome of the story for the good or for the bad,***SMILE***

Books are always better than movies. Granted that movies can always have those tantalizing special effects, it is also a good exercise/skill to practice your imagination by the way of written text. For me, nothing beats the feeling of finishing a book and missing not a detail of the story. Also, the book gives me the pleasure of returning or reliving a scene with just flipping some pages with the original dialogue. there are times when I do compare the book and movie versions and find myself back to books...because all that I watched was better experienced in a book rather than watching it in a dimmed room.

I often think that the books are much better than the movies. I say this because the movie often times doesn't do the book much justice. In the case of "Harry Potter", the films really didn't do the book much justice. The books were so much better than the films. "James and the Giant Peach" was another movie based off of the book that wasn't as great as the book. Same thing with "Jane Eyre" and many other books. It is really hard to translate books into films.

Books are better than movies. They last longer. You can usually guess the end if a movie. The ending in books sometimes can be harder to guess.

i have the same view as you. when i read a book and it gets turned into a movie, i always end up getting frustrated with the movie version. just like as you said, twilight. another one is harry potter. a few months ago, i saw percy jackson when i was on a plane ride. i was really impressed with it. i really liked the movie, but when i read the book, they did it all differently. it was so different, the plot is basically the same but they changed a lot of things. for instance, percy is supposed to be in middle school and 12 years old. but in the movie, he's already in high school. then later on in the books, i found out that there was a prophecy that involves the demi-god's turning 16 years of age. so for me, they made a huge mistake in changing that plotline if they want to continue making movie versions of the book. anyway, my point is books are almost always better than the movie adaptations. the only movie that i probably like better than the book is the notebook and a walk to remember.

I prefer books...because it gives clear picture of the plot rather than movie. To make movies more interesting sometimes the whole plot is distorted and it leads the loss of original motive. Also one can not create its own imagination of his/her desire about the scenes but in books it is possible and that gives immense satisfaction....isnt it??? wat say?

Books are definitely superior to movies. I usually read the book before I see the movie. Then, I annoy those around me by picking out the differences between the book and the movie, especially if it's a book I really liked.

I prefer books rather than movies. No matter how they do it in hollywood, movies cannot capture the same excitement you feel when you read the book.

I would much rather read a book. Readin opens up the imagination and lets a person picture the story the way they really want to. If no physical descriptions are given, the nice people and pictured as beautiful people in my mind and the bad people are ugly. Watching the movie to a book I have read always ruins the story as the way i interpreted it.

maybe it's better than reading books watching movies, but I sometimes get bored quickly if you read the book would rather see the movie because the storyline is more easily digested

100% I will go for the book. Movie tie-ins usually are poor adaptations of the novel. Just look at what happened to Eclipse! It was definitely a failure in the hands of director David Slade. Since I am really fond of taking assignments in the form of reviews, I found out that it generally works that way, and that it is actually a rarity if you will find a good reproduction in film of the written work.

Most of the time I see the movie first. If I really like the movie, then I will go read the book. Every time the book is better! I did read a few of the Harry Potter books before I saw the movies. While I enjoyed the movies, the books were much better and explained things more.

I will definitely prefer reading a book rather than watching the movie. Reading takes me to my own world of imagination. And yes, we are always not satisfied with how the movies are made based on the books because each person's experience is unique while reading them.

I firmly believe that book is far,far much better than movie. Main reason is Movies have audio and vidio capabilities. We can hear and see movie but movie not describes or elaborates.book describes story in detail. what is thought process of actors, hero and heroines? Movie can not give you picture of what their heroes and heroines are thinking. they saw you huge, pompous set in movie to saw you scenes of picture. but they can not give you step by step description of scene. Reading of book give you immense satisfaction that movie is capable to give. Literary superiority is no doubt virtue of book or novel. Movie has his own entertain value.lovers or married couples will go to see movie for entertainment.they will not read book at that time. So situation will also determine book is good or movie is fine. Movie has advantage of audio and video facility. It is very to entertain and understand movie. Books need some efforts to read and understand. to summerise i can say that book is the best but Movie has his own very good entertainment values.you can see and hear songs from movie but your book will not sing for you. so Enjoy both book and movie as you like.

It actually depends on what the story line is and the depth involved. For movies like Harry Potter or Lord of the Rings, it certainly makes sense to do your own little homework to read the book first, take a swift ride to the imaginative world and then physically, rush for the movie for which you have booked the tickets:-) That helps in correlating ourselves to the characters we have already read. However, for movies which involve a great deal of suspension and the movie would hardly last for an hour and a half, I would rather enjoy the thrills on the big screen first!
