Is that a bad habit? During high school in my gym class, my coach mentioned that if we are in a habit of not making our bed after sleeping on them thinking that we will sleep later on that same bed anyway so why should I arrange it if we are going to mess it up again later is a bad habit. He was one of those type of people and he advised us to get in a habit of making our beds because habits stay with us for a long time. Today, he still doesn't make his bed. That got me thinking how will I get in a habit of making my bed in the morning if my habit is not to make the bed. I make my bed sometimes when we are expecting someone to visit but thats a rare occasion. How do change habits? Or improve their habits?

Hi, I can never have an unmade bed. i make it a point to straighten out the sheets and make my bed each day as soon as I am up.It gives a happy feeling to see a neatly made bed.It is very easy to cultivate the habit, all that you need to do is make a start and then it becomes a habit....all the best and have a great weekend

Obsessive Compulsive Disorder. It's when you are meticulous on things and you want everything organized all the time and becomes a problem. Though I don't think you have it, it got me thinking about OCD because the one you mentioned about straightening the sheets. My mistake.

What? Beds? Making them? This guy is supposed to be teaching gym not emulating Martha Stewart! My mom had us make our beds because our bedrooms were on the main floor. Someone may see them! Oh horrors! I rarely make my bed.
They used to make their beds back in the day to keep the dust out. That's it!

Americans don't really pay attention in class, so my teacher just discuss whatever. If you are American, you'll know what I mean. Maybe that is why they say Americans are stupid.

I guess in changing habits we have to be reminded all the time. I suggest you put a sign that would be easily be seen whenever you wake up saying "MAKE YOUR BED". In that case you'd know what to do after seeing that sign. After a while you'll have a habit in making your bed every morning.

How rare that there is somebody here who shares the same thinking as me. You and I have the same type of thinking. That's right, why do we have to make the bed when obviously we're going to sleep later at night? However, these habits denote something of us---our discipline. For me, up till now, I try to make a point to make my bed, although I feel is unnecessary and also to listen less to naggings, if you know what I mean.

They say that doing the same thing for 21 days straight will make it a habit. Try it. It might work. :-))

Oh, frankly speaking, your action is no a good habit indeed. You see, it is an easy job to lose one good habit and on the contrary, it is really difficult to form a good habit and stay with it for a long time.
If you want to form a good habit, for example, making your bed every morning, at first, you need to realize of the advantages of doing that, which will be useful to help you form a good habit.

Well, I don't fix my bed either. I guess it's because I already had a mindset that somebody's going to fix it for me. I think it's all about having a mindset. If you really want something to get done, you'll do your best to accomplish it.

I sometime don't make my bed after waking up, it's because I usually am in a hurry to go to work or school before. I think you can change your habits by simply just being consistent on making your bed every morning. Find time to do so even if you still plan to sleep back after eating breakfast or after going somewhere. Changes in anything don't happen in just one snap of your finger, you have to do it slowly and consistently..

I can try that, hopefully I won't forget. I have the tendency to forget to do things once I miss one like my plan on working out the whole summer I got distracted by the PC games so I ended up getting not much muscle loss.

I live in my college and I seldom make my bed after waking up. I used to make my bed every morning when I wake up, but when I start getting busy with all the activities, homework and assignments in my college, I find out that it will be more convenient if I just leave my bed like that. Because most of the time I need to rush to the lectures and I have no time for making my bed. All my friends here they don't really having this good habit, I think that is normally what a guy will do.

I am lazy. You are right but I am only lazy on a few things like making my bed and folding clothes but everything else I do with conviction and dedication. I cook, clean the house, even gardening, running some errands for the family, do the laundry, and other stuff. It is just a habit that I didn't realize was bad.

Changing habits are really difficult sometimes...but you just have to wake up one morning and do it and while your doing it think of something good...pretend that you are gonna benefit from it...thats how i do it lol

Bed making - hmmmm as a healthcare professional, it should be a habit - a good habit. It will depict a person's personality especially in hygiene. If it's not yet a habit, at least do some changes.. Try to make your bed before sleeping and learn the comfort of a well-managed bed - use our senses, feel and see it clean. It will change us a lot...

many moons ago i heard that if you do anything for 11 days in a row it becomes a habit. Making your bed after breakfast gives it a chance to air but also looks good and if you are laying things on top of it later how much easier it will be when you don't even have to think about it. Say you are having a clear out for the charity shop or jumble sale or just placing your items ready to pack for a holiday it is one less thing to do before getting started. don't stress though, people have come to se (made or unmade)e you not your bed

How you change you habit is entirely up to you. It involves determination and the will power to change. If you want it to, you can always do it and succeed. In my case, I have been trained to keep things in order. I am a person who does not like to see thing in a mess. That includes my bed. So when I wake up the morning, I always arrange things in proper order. Good thing, it has become a habit for me to do such.

I guess you are one of those typical guys who do not one to make up their beds every morning or before they step out of it.
Well, if you are living in your own room and nobody can enter it except you, then, it is still ok. But if you have room mates then that could be very bad not for you but for them. Some couldn't stand a messy bedroom. So, if you have other person in your room, try to clean up even your own bed just a little.
Do not develop a habit of being a slob...:)

After I wake in the morning and get dressed, i always make my bed. It is a habit i developed while i was still in school. If i didn't make my bed then, it probably would not get done all day.

I don't think it's a bad habit, I always make my bed in the morning, but that's because I don't like getting back into a messy bed at night! Plus, I think it keeps the bed warm!!
