What eyeliner stays on the best?

I have tried many different brands and types of eyeliner such as pencil, retractable, liquid, few of which even last half an hour before signs of rubbing off. What brands will stay on the longest?

I used to have the same problem. It seemed that even my eyelids were a little oily. After doing some research, I found this great product that is made by Rimmell called foundation primer. I put in on my eyelids and it really helps my eye make-up stay on longer.

I use eye pencils a lot, and after an hour or so, the colour usually transfers everywhere: to the top of my eyelid, underneath my lower lid, everywhere, giving me raccoon eyes. It also doesn't last very long. So I bought the MAC Powerpoint Eye Pencil. I don't usually buy MAC products as they are too expensive for me, but I use the MAC concealer, and have to admit that you pay for quality. The eye pencil is expensive but definitely worth it as I do not experience any of the problems that I usually experience with eye pencils (like the ones I mentioned above) with this eye pencil. It also lasts for ages and can be used on the water line.
I have been told that the Urban Decay 24/7 Glide-On Eye Pencil works very well too, but I cannot comment on this as I have never used it before. It is also quite expensive. If you are looking for something cheap, I would recommend the Rimmel Soft Khol Kajal Eye Pencil. It does not work as well as the MAC eye pencil, but I think that it is excellent for the price that you pay. I currently own this eye pencil in three different shades.
Also, if you use an eye primer then your eye liner (and eye shadow, if you use any) will also last longer. I use the Benefit Lemon Aid Corrector Eyelid Primer.
Finally, what really helps the colour last and stay put is eye shadow. After applying my eye pencil, I usually wet my eye liner brush, pick up a little bit of eye shadow (same shade as or closest shade to my eye liner) and go over my eye liner with it. This also intensifies the colour.
Sorry my post is so long. I am very passionate about eye make up so I get a little carried away when I am talking about it!

Is it possible that the shape of my eye causes it to rub off easily?

If you have hooded eyes, then yes. People with hooded eyes often complain that their eye liner smudges off, or the colour gets transferred to their brow bone. You mentioned that you've tried eye pencils and liquid eye liners. Have you ever tried gel or cream eye liners? You usually get them in a pot and have to apply them with an eye liner brush. I've heard that they last longer than other types of eye liner. I am planning on buying one soon to test this claim.

I think this depends on what type of eyes you have. If you have monolids (where the fold are under your eyelids) then the eyeliners (even black eyeshadows) will smudge on your lower lids. From what i've seen online most people use black eyeshadow over the eyeliner to set it and not smudge as much. You can also use liquid eyeliners over your eyeshadow as well.
They also use eye primers before applying any eye make up but if you don't have eye primers you can make some of your own by combining liquid foundation/concealer and body butter. After you've applied the eye primer on your lids then you apply your eye liners. Maybe dab on some black eyeshadow on top of it to set it just to be sure it won't smudge.
I use loose powder on my lower lids but it's 'coz i'm not much into wearing make up. haha. And it doesn't really work as well as primers i guess? Because the eyeliner still kinda smudges after a while so you have to reapply powder again after a few hours. Haven't tried using primers yet so there.

This may be surprising, but if you are looking for something cheap, try Wet N Wild cream/gel eyeliner! It is only $1.88-$4ish (depending on where you buy it). It stays on very, very well, in fact it stays on so well it's a little hard to get it off with my eye makeup remover. But still it stays on super well, and it goes on well on the waterline which many eyeliners don't do so that is a plus. The main downside to the Wet N Wild cream/gel liner is that it only comes in black or purple, but most people will be satisfied with black alone so yea not that huge of a downside. Oh yea and I forgot to mention before that the cream/gel eyeliner comes with a small slanted eyeliner brush too so you can apply it.

I have tried every eyeliner you could think of. If they sell it in department stores, I've tried it.
The brand that stays the longest is Revlon's Color Stay. My favorite eyeliner from that collection is the retractable crayon one. They're all good though, they're a nice deep color that doesn't rub off unlike all other eyeliners I've used.
I'm going to try MAC makeup out soon though.. That will probably be better.

Actually I bought a cheap liquid eyeliner and it's worked wonders. Have you tried liquid eyeliners? They stay on your lids the whole day. I would recommend Maybelline eyeliner. Try those that you can just peel off right after so they don't smudge while you're applying them. Mine came from China, its brand is Kokuryu and it works and it's really cheap.
