hello friends..

Personally i use window based operating system.. And mostly all people use windows xp, vista or windows 7... As windows based OS is quite famous then others.. ( thats what i guess )
But still there are many people who are using operating systems like linux and mac.. I want to know which different facility or unique features these operating system are providing that people should choose them instead of windows based operating system.. I mean widows based os providing all facility. But is linux or mac providing some more... If yes then i will surely like to know about them..
Thanks in advance :)

I'm a Mac user but before that I've been a MS Windows user for more than 10 years. I have little experience on Linux like Ubuntu and other derivatives before I go into using Mac.
There are more life on Mac than other else OS on the market. I mean there a lot of options and solutions to choose that are more easy, logical and more sense. What I'm pointing out is all about computer usabilities or its main functions as a computer you can use everyday, with less maintenance on the side of the computer. You just use the Mac all time for whatever reasons you want to have on a computer.

Apple, Inc. technologies are truly great indeed, it is their fruits of too much dedication on technological research and development. Their technologies are more advance and trendsetters that became an emerging new kind of cultures and lifestyles we are living today and into the future.
Yes you can run a Mac OS on your PC but it is hard to do it but there solution and techniques. But it is not 100% can functions properly and that can cause critical damages to your PC's physical or hardware systems. There are no serials numbers just like on MS Windows, but you can't update immediately if there's a new updates on Apple. And I am sure you can't take that Mac OS running on your PC for a longer period of time, because it can surely take a lot of headaches, heartaches and patience. In other words, it will just a wasted and useless time if ever you ever TRY to install Mac OS in your PC.
Just buy a Mac for goodness sake.... And make creations, ideas, concepts, principles, knowledge, wisdoms, methodologies and productions everyday of your life.

I use Windows but am switching to a Mac. I am tired of having my computer freeze and all the viruses attack it. I also go by the premise that if everyone jumps into the lake, you do not need to do it. The Mac is better for creative types, and also since it is only made by one company, Apple, there is less chance of a software conflict. | did check the Linux , but find you have to be more of a computer geek to use it. And not all programs, and I am talking about basic programs, are for Linux. Also except for Windows 7, you cannot review your ipod specified music and audio on Windows.

The Mac definitely isn't just for rich people. When my last iMac gave up the ghost, I replaced it with an excellent second-hand one for about $500.00 It's not Intel, but it runs on Leopard, has plenty of memory, is fast, and does everything I want it to. It's not up to date enough for heavy graphics or maybe for gaming, but I'm not into either of those. And since there's so much reasonably priced shareware and freeware for the Mac, I haven't had to spend a fortune on software.

Both my netbooks are running Linux because it's free, compared to me buying another Windows license. At the same time, they don't take up too many system resources, so my computer is fast and easy to use, which is what I need when I'm on the go. At home of course I do use Windows, but I also have the linux OS called Ubuntu install in case something goes wrong with my Windows OS.

Re: compatibility
Not really, cause I don't use a lot of specialised software. The ones I use are mainly freeware, so I have the same programs on Windows as I do on Ubuntu. Plus the majority of my life is lived through the web browser, so as long as I have a connection and a browser I'm quite good to go.
Re: User-friendly
Everyone is familiar with Windows, so a number of Linux OSes tend to duplicate the things that Windows does best. It's more of a matter of what you're willing to learn and adjust. Both are user-friendly, though since people are a bit more familiar with Windows it would be fair to say that Windows may come across as a more user-friendly OS.

Hi,
The journey of Windows operating system started great, but it arguably, had several drawbacks. First of all, it was not customizable as people didn't know the codes. The real structure of the operating system has been kept in dark. Secondly, it was not upgraded to meet the expectations of its users. For example, only after the release of Mozilla the Microsoft thought about upgrading it's browser and that too after being beaten black and blue in competition. It was when people decided to throw away Windows then Microsoft decided to work on its products. Now Linux is an open source Operating system, which is its most important advantage. The first generation was MINIX which was used extensively by students. This later evolved into Linux. You can do almost anything with Linux, unless of course, you violate the intellectual property law. People badly needed a substitute to break the monopolistic tradition of windows, so the others were created. This competition is healthy for the development of technology. Thanks.
God bless you.

i use linux, i used to have windows xp but, when i tried to play a game it ran extremely slow (about 2 frames a second) then i switched to jolicloud an ubuntu mod for netbooks) and then i tried the game again and got amazing increses in fps. jolicloud is EXTREMELY easy to use and many windows programs have alternatives.if you have a netbook i strongly recomend making the switch.plus i dont have to worry about viruses

I've been a Mac user for years, after being a Windows user. Macs are extremely stable. Some people like to claim that they don't crash, but that's not true. What is true is that it's very hard to crash a Mac, especially since the last few operating system upgrades. I can't even remember the last time I had a system crash. Another nice feature of Macs (Windows may be the same. I really don't know.) is that almost every program uses a similar interface. Apple provides the guidelines for development of software, so most programs are very easy to learn because their menus and other aspects are identical or similar to each others. Also, because hackers like to do as much damage as possible, they don't bother much with Macs. So Macs are pretty virus-free. I've never used virus protection, never had a virus, and never had to reformat my hard drive.

I forgot to mention that there are a lot of wonderful programs for Macs that don't have Windows versions. I have programs that I wouldn't give up for anything. One of them is my main writing program, Scrivener. A lot of wonderful Mac programs are free, and some of them are the only way to get some jobs done.
