Do you think that computers can overpower human beings as shown in Terminator 3?

This is our nightmare. We never want this to be true. Now that many computer engineers are on their way to create artificial intelligence to an unprecedented high. It is assumed this new generation computer will be almost as intelligent as human. If so, do you believe that one day it will overpower human beings and conquer the planet as shown in Terminator 3 and some other films?

Chances is there. Artificial intelligence (computer programme) are made by men. Various source of analytical way were programmed by group of genius and keep improving it towards perfection. As a result, it can be combination of many brains which contributes into building it. And bear in mind, computer doesnt makes careless mistake (human error) while we do. Take a good example; the chess game. Computer program already proven can perform better than human.
However, no one ever programmed a robot/computer to be capable of defensing themselves against human yet. All AI were made to be 'slave' to human at the moment. If there's any genius (human, of course) who create such 'virus' in AI, then the risk is definitely there. If an AI is principally built with the intention to go against human, then we are in danger

I think you are right. It all depends on us, the way we use this immense potential of computer will pave the way of our fate. If we use it positively then it can be our great friend otherwise it can be worst enemy. But do you think that these machine can reproduce itself?

Dear friend,
I feel those artificial intelligence could do bad if it goes to the negative side of life. If properly and used more securely I feel this artificial intelligence could give humans a great helping in development. Have you seen the movie "Robot" or "Enthiran" which is an Indian movie. It shows the two sides of an artificially intelligent robot.

Enthiran is based on an older movie called The Bicentennial Man, which is based on Isaac Asimov's story, the Bicentennial Man, at least judging from the trailer. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Bicentennial_Man

Well Computers are a lot smarter than humans even know but they cannot multitask as much as we can. But for cyborgs and such just like in terminator, i think it would still be for a while before that happens.

The scenario given in Terminator 3 movie is possible. Computers are getting more intelligent all the time. There are already research and development involving Artificial Intelligence in computers. So it is possible that someday it could happen. But would depend if we would let that happen. So as creators of this AI thing it is also our responsibility to put some safety measures and limitations to such AI programs.

Hi JackRoy:
We need to consider the nature of the computers and artificial intelligence and those who made such things possible.
I think the real issue lies in the nature of the creature and the creator. Rule Number 1: What is created cannot surpass the ability of the creator. If this principle is negated, your fear shall come true. Is an "intelligent" entity ever capable of doing harm to those who created it? In the first place, no self-respecting intelligent awareness would ever do something just to be destroyed by it.
Secondly, the view of a machine going uncontrollably rampant against man is quite impossible given the good basic human nature inherent in us. Granted, a machine learns to be bad, do you believe nobody would ever stand up against it? Like a wise parent after his children, somebody is bound to correct such discrepancy before things could get out of hand. The power struggle between good and evil is an issue here. In the end, who is going to prevail? The good one, of course.
I really see no problem in advanced intelligence if being put to good use. Ultimately, the power to do good or bad always rests in us and not on the created machines themselves.

I don't think it will hppen like that but I do think computers are/will be used by those who want to control and manipulate the human population. Already the technology exists for us all to be microchipped so we can be monitored 24/7. That kind of thing scares me because it is often private businesses that have that control.

I guess not, because we people are still the greatest computer ever made and without us there could be no computers now. We are more intelligent and have more capacity in doing things.
