I was just reading this article and was amazed by the results. http://ca.news.yahoo.com/s/cbc/101101/science/science_exercise_fitness_colds "Participants at Appalachian State University in Kannapolis, N.C., reported on how often they got aerobic exercise equivalent to a brisk walk. People who got aerobic exercise five days a week or more for at least 20 minutes had more than a 40 per cent reduction in illness days compared with those who averaged one day of exercise per week or less, said study author David Nieman, director of the university's human performance laboratory." Amazing isn't it?

I believe that exercise is a powerful preventer. If we take good care of our bodies through exercise, it can help us keep our bodies in tune with good health.

I do too, though I could be a little more consistent with my walks. I do it for a stretch and then slow down. Every once in a while I need a little push to do more exercise, like reading this article. Don't just sit, keep fit!

I do believe that exercise helps us greatly health wise. I have heard it actually boosts our immune system. Plus the extra intake of oxygen is probably real good for us too! I know it also gives a great release to stress and getting those levels down is indeed beneficial for the health.

Not to me. When I was doing Martial Arts, other people were sick and I either didn't get it or if they had the flu or something for 2 weeks, I had it for 2 days. The worst thing was something everyone had to 14 days and I had it for 10, but that was really bad. Most people ended up in the hospital. I'd get a cut that would take most people 14 days to heal and I did it in 10. Our Martial Arts club encouraged walking or running as well as weight lifting and our Martial Arts classes. Take care

Scientists have been telling us for years how important exercise is. Yes, I believe that exercise helps your body to resist illness. Also, staying away from sick people, if you can, also helps. I think that even if you're around sick people, exercising, eating right, and having plenty of vitamin C can help you resist sickness.

Hi Formidexo. I agree that many have not been listening because they let the information go in one ear and out the other. I think the temptation is too great and its hard to break habits. There are all kind of great tasting calorie creating foods out there. In the US as you know, when I was in school, we had gym from grades 7- 9. We also had health classes. But with all the temptations out there, many of us couldn't stay away from the candy and other sweets. Now mostly everyone I know who is around my age, is suffering from sugar diabetes or some form of blood pressure or heart problems. I used to eat a lot of sweets when I was young and am surprised I don't have diabetes yet, especially since I'm overweight. I exercise a little and walk all over the city which might be helping me in a ways. Just like we were taught in the fifties and sixties that smoking is bad for you, yet people smoked anyway because habits are hard to break and smoking is very pleasurable and to many teens it is a "cool" thing to do. Eating too is very pleasureable and doing exercises is unpleasurable. I have to force myself to exercise. And if I had a car I wouldn't be walking all over town. . But I still would walk to some places.

Even though we heard the message for years on how import exercise or activity is, I don't think most of of us have been listening. I see so many people out of shape.

Yes the temptations around are powerful but good health is wonderful. So I guess its up to each of us to decide what choices we will make. I definitely will work on exercising more from now on.

well, it is a known fact that when you sweat, your body throws away all the toxins. And guess what, when you exercise, do you sweat? Yes...

I definitely sweat when I vigorously exercise and it doesn't smell like a rose either.

You are not the only one that feels like that. Many of us are aware of the benefits of exercise but fail to stick to a regular exercise program. We all need reminders and a good kick to get us going.

Thanks for reminding - I hope walking outdoors counts as aerobic exercise. Then I will be out in a few minutes! The snow we had the other day seems to have melted away, and it is still a little daylight, so better hurry. Our time is about 3.25 wintertime, the darkness is upon us but we will at least have some snow soon to brighten everything up. Wish you a great day here is an extra smile for you!

Yes I agree with that because exercises makes your circulation good and it relaxes the nerves. It is necessary especially to a person who have a history of heart diseases, high cholesterol, and high blood pressures. It helps are body to produce sweats which is very necessary in loosing excessive fats. I myself, make it a habit of walking instead of riding a taxi when i still have time and don't have to rush in the office.

The gain of exercise are so many, that we have to start exercising for our health. Even a 20 minute walk 3-5 times a week, can give you enormous health benefits. Aerobic exercise boosts the release of endorphins (the feel good chemicals of the brain), which helps lessen depression. Exercises also increases your self esteem, and decreases anxiety by keeping your mind occupied.

Thanks for bringing those benefits to our attention. I hope that more of us get a regular program going and even encourage some of our friends to join in the fun.

Yes, exercises gives us alot of things but they might not all be good. If exercises are not done properly, injuries will occur and it will affect us forever. Other than that, I have no grudges against exercise because it makes me look and feel good. I like the pain that comes with it. It's a fulfilling pain because I know I'm doing my body and health good. No matter how busy I'm, I will make it a point to exercise 3 times a week, rotating between jogging, yoga and shadow boxing. All these are card exercises which is good and slims me down as well.

True, exercises need to be done properly. But anybody can walk more and usually not too dangerous an activity. Still need to watch where we are going. Happy to see that you have a nice program going. Stay slim and healthy!

It doesn't just prevent illnesses like colds and the flu -- it also helps prevent serious illnesses like diabetes and cancer. It also makes genetic diseases you may have been born with, like asthma, become more managable (for most people.) Excercise is also perfect for getting rid of stress and keeping your mood level.

Definitely a big Yes,In the ancient times Man used to walk 100s of miles for food and they never had any kind of disease or disorder like we do. No diabetes,No Blood pressure,No obese,No heart attack.... and the list goes on.We hardly walk and we are used to the so called comforts and ruining our life. Any way we cannot leave our cars at home and cant walk now,so it si better to do exercise every morning. It keeps you fit and acts as a prevention.

Yes, it's true, it's hard to get along without a car. But I intend on using it less and do more walking and more exercise. I want to stay fit. Hopefully you will do more also to stay fit and healthy.

Exercise is one of the best preventative medicines there is. It keeps Alzheimers at bay. It is said your chances of getting Alzheimers is greatly reduced just by adding exercise to your day. Exercise also reduces obesity, and other common illnesses. It's a statement with a lot of truth to it.
