What's wrong with watching a movie alone in theaters? lol

Yesterday, I just want a time for myself so I decided to watch a movie alone. The Social Network. I really enjoyed the film. So many funny lines. I can say it's worth my money.
When I got in the theater, I bump in to some friends from high school. They were with friends too. So we exchanges our HI's and Hellos.
Then two of them asked who was with me. I said I was alone. They had this glances in which I am starting to react differently - LOL. Then one of them said, "Oh, why? Why watch the movie alone? Is that how lonely your life is right now?" Okay. So what's was that just now. LOL. I'd like to think that she's kidding but I admit she got a little off with her line. So I said, not trying to be provoked, that I prefer to watch this movie alone so that I can avoid some people who kept on asking questions if they don't understand a scene. LOL.
To be more polite, I bade my goodbyes and told them I'll be going ahead.
Seriously, I don't think there's anything wrong with watching a movie alone.Regardless of your mood or what. I think it's nice, in a way that you can concentrate most especially if you're looking forward to this certain movie. Here in the Philippines, some theaters allows you to have a review (ie if it's not 2d/3d or special screening move houses).
Good day, Everyone. Hot Friday here. Cheers! =)

Hi, angel. Since we have 2D/3D Cinemas now - prices would be at 250 to 500php. Depends on the movie.
Then the regular ones, there is 120 to 150 - also depends on the movie.
But SM has a great promotion. They have this 15php/movie for their classic ones (like movies 2 or 3 years ago).

Yesterday was wet and I expect today (Friday) still be wet.
Anyway back to being a movie goer, well I could be just blocks
away or a message away if you want someone be your bodyguard.
It's been like 7 or 8 years ago since I went to SM or Ayala cinemas.
Somebody offered a movie ticket for Php 130 (SM ticket) Im not sure
though how much these tickets cost at the both.
Pacquiao vs Margarito is around 400 or 500 pffft overkill.
So sad I never knew how a 2d/3d/4d looks like.

Hi, insurectus. LOL. Thanks for the nice offer. I'll consider that sometime.
My uncle is also looking forward to the Pacman - Margarito Fight. I hope pacman wins. I really want him, like when the time comes that he wants to retire, that he'll be undefeated.

Pacman already had 3 defeats for now, he'll never be undefeated.
I can watch this boxing match by myself. I can shout at the top of my
lungs as what others do during this fight.

What's wrong with it? Absoultely nothing. You watched the movie because you wanted to watch it and you will enjoy watching it even alone. Period. It is not necessary that if your friends or no one among your frinds wants to watch the movie, should make you not to watch it also.
Yeah, I can relate to your situation. Sometimes, I love watching movie alone. Matter of fact, I love it more when I am alone. It seems that I can relax and enjoy the movie even better than when I have companies.LOL. Watching movie alone is stress free, don't they realize that?
You are perfectly all right, dear.:)

If there's something wrong with watching movies alone then there's definitely something wrong with me. It's nice to be with someone but if i want to enjoy a movie then I prefer to watch it alone. That way, i can understand and concentrate on the movie and not to the person seated next to me. there are scenes in the movie that I don't understand at first viewing so i watch the movie twice, there was even a movie that i like so much i watched it three times in one sitting. What? is it friday already?

True. Most especially if movies that we want to watch requires more concentration than attending to our friends' question. No pun intended.
And we are also fortunate that we can have a chance of viewing it again. Unlike in other movie theaters that there's an assigned show.

that's very true. these people lack self confidence, and only strong when they have group of friends. they can't stand being alone.

i watch movies alone too specially when i was still single. i dont like to watch with my siblings for they are noisy and i dont like to watch with friends for they always bring their gf along. i also had dates watching movies but when i want to watch something that i need concentration i rather go alone than to bring a distraction. but since i met my wife i no longer watch movies alone. she is a good companion for she just watch and cuddle. does not complain nor make sounds. she also concentrates. then when we love the outcome of the movie then we wait for the dvd copy then watch it again.

Hi, 7. You are lucky to have your wife. I wish I could also find a partner soon that is not so choosy or noisy when it comes to watching movies because I am a movie fanatic. =)
Best regards to you and to your family.

There is absolutely nothing wrong with watching a movie alone and as you say you can watch the movie without annoying disturbances.
Part of the issue is that there is a soical misconception that going to the cinema is something done in either couples or groups and anyone who goes on there own is deemed to have no life or sad. It's completely wrong and extends to what for me is annoying stereotypes and that anyone who choses to be alone is deemed not normal.
The other part of the issue is where once going to watch a film meant just that, watching the film. It is now wrongly perceived as a social where people just get together and talk through a movie. They forget that there constant chatter is in fact a disturbance to those who actually want to watch a movie.
I must add that when ever I went to the cinema to watch a film I would tend to go to daytime viewings as I was less likely to bump into friends who would question me why I was going alone. It was always more of an issue if I went in the evening when more couples would be there.

I don't really see anything wrong with it per say. I've seen people at the movie theaters alone before, although I've never thought about doing it myself. Seeing a movie is kind of a social event for me, I always go with a friend or a relative and whatnot. It's just more fun that way for me. But I do appreciate time by myself, AKA "me time". I would imagine that all people need some time to themselves. Some people might read, some people might go on a walk (this is what I do), some people might go to the gym or take a hot bath - and none of this means it's because we're lonely or have no friends, it just means that we're trying to relax and pamper ourselves and take time to think.

Yeah. Me time is also synonymous to good time. =) And we all have our own "me time". Take care, Maezee. Hope you're fine my friend.

There is really nothing wrong with watching a movie alone in theaters and even in my own home. I would have to agree with your sort of an alibi that it is really good to watch movie alone to avoid being distracted by somebody who are with because of asking too many questions like.. what did the actor said? It is really annoying especially if you are really focused with the movie.

True. Even at home, when someone ask so many questions that you have to rewind it for their sake and review that certain scene where they don't understand. Oh, well.

Maybe they are not comfortable watching movies alone. LIKE ME. :) I am REALLY REALLY not comfortable when I am alone. Not only in watching movies, but everywhere. I'd rather be accompanied by someone than to be alone. For me, being alone is embarrassing. I DON'T KNOW WHY, but that's my own perception. We all have different likes in life, so it's just maybe you're friends are sociable and interpersonal :D

I afree with you, you don't need to have someone with you while watching a film, there is nothing wrong in it, and your more likely to watch all the film that you have paid for more on your own as if someone was with you then they could possibly talk to you throught the film where you could miss parts because of them. Nothing wrong at all in going on your own.

Watching a movie alone in theaters isn’t really a hard thing. i’ve watched a few movies alone and i am 19 years old.. Just don’t mind the people staring at you… watching a movie alone is actually a good way of spending and knowing yourself better.. you could call yourself a unique one because not all doesn’t have the courage to watch a movie in theaters alone. For me Seeing a movie alone for me was really not much different

I agree with you totallyundecided that there's nothing really wrong with watching a movie alone. I had tried this before and I find it fun because you got to spent sometime for yourself. It may be awkward for other people but in the end they will also realize that it really doesnt matter at all. Those people are not used to be alone and most of the time they prefer to be with groups or with somebody else.
As for me, I don't care what people say (LOL). Who cares if you're alone watching a movie? It's not being lonely anyway.

Hello there totallyundecided! It's been a while since you last posted a discussion topic.. where have you been? You've been busy with ur studies n all? *nosy mode
By the way, regarding your topic, I'd say it's nothing at all! I watched movies a few times by myself, and I think that it's perfectly normal... I mean sometimes you just gotta give time to yourself don't u?... in addition to keeping all the emotions, thrill and attention towards to yourself and focus on the movie Only
I don't know how to describe the feeling but it does feel good indeed, watching movies alone.. (and I mean in the cinema)

Take care always. You're a thoughtful friend.

Not only is it sad but it's unsafe. You're in a dark room and anything can happen. But this is just the practical side.
I don't like watching movies alone because I want people to talk to about it right after seeing it. You know I'm stuck in a room for two hours which amounts to two hours of an intense experience (conflict resolution in two hours? mental workout! haha). So I need to talk to someone.
I don't like it when people ask me about a scene or a line they missed when in the middle of watching a movie, but my friends aren't really like that. We're more like nudge each other in the middle of the movie if we get a reference, or if something or someone is so epic we can't let it pass without saying something.
For your sake though, it's just not safe.

Hello, RMJ.
That is also usually my mom's concern also since I am fond of watching movies alone. But whenever I do, I usually watch it in an earlier time slot since I am always fond of reviewing it again.
So rest assured my friend. I am cautious.
I can only talk the movie about it after my friends have already watched it. Since I am always the first one to see an up and coming anticipating movie. =)

There's nothing wrong with that. Personally, I like it because you get to hang out with your self alone. It means you enjoy your own company. It's a common misconception that when you're alone, you're lonely. I actually like it because, yes, no distractions!

There is nothing wrong with watching a movie alone. I have done it a few times and got used to it. Eventually, if the movie in an enjoyable one, I would enjoy watching it alone rather than skipping it.
I think people who mostly stay in the company of other people won't enjoy it or approve of other people doing it. Whereas people who spend a considerable time alone won't have any problem in doing this. Moreover, if the movie requires one's constant concentration to get the plot, then it will not matter much whether the person sees the movie alone or in a group.

True. Though I watched Inception with friends, that movie requires a lot of brian squeeze but hat I have appreciated from my company at that moment is that we were all concentrating.

Nothing wrong with watching a movie alone. I'm doing that at times too when I needed to be alone with not being too quiet. I had the same experience a couple of years back while I'm a single. I was watching the movie suddenly a few guys came behind me to ask if I'm watching the movie alone. I said yes and they offered to join me, sitting around me! Initially I was ok with it since we are watching. However things didn't turn out as expected because their intention was to get my number, want to be friends with me! As soon as I knew it, and they are disturbing my mood, I got up and left.

Oh, my. LOL. What an experience but it's a little funny hearing it. But I am happy to know that they are not up to something bad - so I think it's also a warning to you to be careful.
Take care always my friend. =)
