hi mylotters, have you ever try to use water to fry instead of oil? they said it can be use as substitute to oil, so i tried sometimes to cook fried egg with the use of water, same procedure of cooking and same taste also. and because of that ,i can save cooking oil.

yes i have. i try to minimize the use of oil in everyday cooking so an alternative to fried egg is a poached egg. like the process you mentioned, using water instead of oil. it's somewhere between boiled egg without the shell and fried egg without the oil. hehe

called a "poached" egg. Mom did them all the time when we were kids...had a little machine to make 3 at a time and they were good.

I dont think its the same ;( Well i think frying with water is impsible when i put a water in a pan it starts going all over and if you put a lot its more of a boiled egg not fryed :) I think you can fry only with oil :) Otherwise its boiling or just frying without anything ;) Well if you really did something like that (howww :( ) its good cuz oil is bad for the health ;)

I haven't tried cooking egg in water instead of cooking oil..but i will try that one though. Thanks for sharing this. What i have tried is cooking hotdog in water instead of cooking oil..it's much tastier than compared to cooking in oil.

Well if one is using nonstick cookware, water can be used instead of oil, but taste with oil and without oil will not be same, we use the minimum quantity of sunflower oil in cooking here. Best of luck. Professor

Yes I have tried using water but I do not think its called frying. Poaching is the process of simmering food in liquid instead of oil.You will still come up with the same taste but different texture. This method you can save oil and save life as well. It is economical and health-friendly too.

You can't fry food in water. You can fry foods in oil or butter. Never heard of anyone frying an egg in oil. When you put the water in the pan and cooked your egg what you came up with was a poached egg - not a fried egg. There is a huge difference in the taste of a fried egg with a dab of butter in a fry pan to that of a poached egg steamed in a bath of water.

You can certainly substitute but you will not get the same effect as what ever you try to fry in water will simply boil until cooked. So if you are looking for the same fried effect, it will not happen by boiling but it will save you oil. LOL

Hi there. I was like "what?" I thought water + egg on a hot pan = explosion? :D I certainly didn't try that before and I am happy that you are willing to share it. Going to try whenever I have the time!

Hi asliah! I never tried water as a substitute for oil, though. Let me try to use that instead on my next breakfast, lol! I am hoping my husband will like it. Cheers!

it can, but it can not do for cooking something like rice because it can only be done for steaming food especially for making beverages.
