Every Christmas I make special foods that I take to my daughter´s home. This year, as Sofía is only 3 months old, my daughter doesn´t want to do a Christmas dinner as it´s too much work and she gets tired. We are going to be 3 grownups and Rafael´s 4 children by a previous marriage, Claudia´s 2 big children from her other partner and Sofía who does not count at the table. Claudia thought the children would be happier with a sort of open buffet where everyone ate what and when they wanted. She´s having chicken wings, minidogs with sauces and a big salad dish of tabule. Then we would exchange our presents. I´m making some pickled zuchinni appetizers and stuffed nasturtium flowers (Goggle recipe). Besides that, I can smell my apricot kuchen baking downstairs. YUMMY! I like to do beforehand as much as possible because it seems this old witch gets tired easily now. Do you cook some of the goodies beforehand? What are you cooking this year? Any specialities? Share!

Christmas Eve table should be plentiful, but the food it odd mandatory and lean. Traditionally each year on December 24th the family gathers around the table, the house burn incense for health and the oldest one breaks bread with coins and distributed piece of the family members. On the one who gets the coin in the whole year will go and will be a healthy and happy. Christmas Eve dinner started early and during the meal people must not get up from the table. Table on Christmas Eve usually has peppers, cabbage leaves, beans, nut, dried fruit.

We planned today that tomorrow after Christmas church service, my children, three of them with some more from my village will have 'mumu'. Mumu is a tradtional way of cooking where we bake our food in dug hole. We heat stones and when they red hot, they put banana leave over the hole to make sure there no dirt on the fresh leaves, then put hot stones, now since we have aliminum foil we pot all over food to be coked like chicken, vegetables, bananas( feeled) all in the foil and wrapped it and put it over the hot stone. We water the stones to created and cover it with the leaves and wait for 2 hours. We undo the mumu and there, we have our christmas food. it is hard work, but we love it and it is worth doing it.

In the souuth of my country there´s a dish similar to what you are telling me. It´s called curanto and it is served with a sort of bread that cooks on top of it all. Leaves are from a different plant though as we don´t have bananas here. Merry Christmas, friend!

Yes, I'll cook. I'm thinking about what I'll do. I don't know which dishes I can cook. It's difficult to choose. I'm going to cook a fried chicken and a spot. I hope that everyone will be like them :)

i will be cooking a ham and a brisket. along with that i will be cooking homemade yeast rolls pies (apple, peach and pecan). We will also be having dressing green bean cassarole carrots mashed potatoes and gravy. We usually do not eat breakfast the kiddos get us up abut 4 or 430 then the opening of presents and they play with them till about lunch time but they will have chocolate milk and donuts if they want it. most of the time they are more into playing than eating.

I think we received some ham for a gift, so that is what we will eat. I wanted to bake some sweets but we received a lot of that too, so I think I should keep it at that, since, it wouldn't be way too much! I hope you have a great time with your family!

Heaven and the xmas tree! - Heaven putting an ornament on our tree 2010. It's an artificial one, but next year we'll be getting a real one.
We are having a ham tomorrow (and we'll serve the leftovers with the turkey on Friday), sweet potatoes, baked beans and a salad. Your dinner sounds delicious as well. We always serve buffet style too, it's much easier and the kids only have to eat what they really want. During the day tomorrow, I'll be making a lemon meringue pie and a pumpkin pie. Yummy...I am so excited for Christmas this year!!
