When Your Beautician/Barber Messed Up... How Do You Handle the Situation

Hi all,
Many of us go to the Barber or a Beautician for getting hair-cuts/shave beards(men) or even trimming the eyebrows(ladies) and there is a fine line that exists between the perfect trim and an error
The error can happen anytime and that can result in No-Existence of the ever cared Mustache or Eyebrow. But when gone... it is gone.
Imagine a situation where you went to one and lost one of your eyebrows or a part of the mustache... How Comfy or Uncomfortable do you feel?
And more so... How Would You React?
PS. It can happen not with the Barber in case you are in charge but a Mishap is a Mishap...
Cheers,
theSids.

Well I am from the other side. I am a beautician. When I first started in the salon there was a guy who came back to the salon because something wasn't right with his hair cut. I remember being nervous when I cut his hair and I ended up not cutting it short enough, which in my brain is a lot better than cutting it too short. The owner fixed it for free and I watched her do it. She gave me constructive critisism and I learned from the mistake. I did almost mess up on someone's hair, but I fixed it before he could notice. But I remember thinking, "how do I tell this guy that I messed up on his hair?" I was so nervous, but then I fixed it, which is really good because it was prom night for him lol. That could have really sucked! Anyway, I braced myself for the attack and to tell you the truth, I would have felt so bad, I probably would have cried. I'm kind of a sissy that way. I don't like being yelled at so yeah, I am pretty sure I would cry and it would be involuntary. Hope that answers your question Sids.
Everyone makes mistakes and I am very careful, but I see a lot of beauticians who don't listen to their clients' wants and those are the ones who screw up the most.

Hi sid,
I don’t have the habit of visiting beauty parlor. (I have visited only once, just before my marriage). But I know people when they faced similar situation. Once I was doing my computer course, the instructor (male) came in class and students started to laugh on him. Some girls made some comments even. He realized why students are laughing and he explained what happened to his hair (the barber done a mistake).
Mistakes are humane

True. "To Err is human"
The instructor incident happened in our classes too. But the instructor mentioned - "I am going with a new look and asked us straight how do I look without the mustache... As this was the first time when we saw him without one, we felt he was looking more girly but we couldnt say that out of respect and so had to say - Sir this new look is great for you.. Later we overheard the employees making fun of this incident and were happy to know that our guess was fine

How very true. It can happen to anybody! We do need to take it in our stride It can be a momentary thing and can leave you sulking or feeling sad for long but then there is no escape and it is better that we overcame and took it in our stride.
But then, I can understand losing the mustache as many men go without them and then we can say oh I was trying a new look for me. Good.
But if unfortunately this happened to the poor eyebrow

Oh God, thank you for my hair stylist as I have been to her for six years now. My long hair down to my waist has to be handled only by a professional like her. Prior to her I use to be butchered by scissor happy beauticians.
All I could do was cry and take my losses after all I have enough hair for many put together.

If the beautician has followed what i told her to do with my hair, but it turned out not good to me, then i will just keep mum about it. Afterall, it was my directive.
However if it was her whole idea, then i will tell her it doesn't look good on me so she better think of it could be redone in a way that will more or less suit me.

I usually don't let the beautician cut it that short at first so i can more or less see the result. hence if the style doesn't suit me she could style it in a way that will more or less conform to my desire. But if she can do magic . . . i will let her ! LOL

it happened to me once before... my hairdresser cut my hair too short and i am pretty upset about it... i told her how i feel and also to be more careful next time because it really ruined my appearance... but after that, i just let it go as i can't do anything about it... people do make mistakes and i just have to be tolerant... the hair can grow again as well after some times and the feeling to be able to forgive someone is wonderful... take care and have a nice day...

Luckily, I haven't experienced such awful accidents. I think that such mistakes are quite serious, because they can ruin ones appearance totally.
I think that if my barber would mess my haircut up so badly, I would get very angry and demand a compensation money for such devastating effect that barbers job would have on my appearance. Luckily, my barber seems to be quite professional, she knows what she is doing and so far I've been very content with her.

I will say that i have never had my ete brows plucked, but in the past when i have had my hair cut and they have not cut it the way i wanted i was not happy.I went to the hair dressers and they ended up cutting my hair too short.Thankfully i have a great hair dresser now that tends to come to my house and cut my hair.

I can understand the point here. I must admit that Indian Ladies are a bit more lucky when they go for the Hairdo. At least they can survive this if it was just a trim they wanted but the dresser cut them short.
Poor us(men), we normally have short hari and if they are cut shorter... we have no way out but to say - ok, I would manage

Loreal...OMG. This confirms my faith and belief - the biggies just feel they are demi-gods and can do anything they want on the client.
It is sad that you had to get this from them but I hope that the hair of ladies grow faster and yours would be back as per your desires soon. And it is really good to know that you kind of found a solution to manage the things as they are now.
Good Luck

This happened to me once. I used to grow my hair long. I decided one time to get my hair cut to a certain look. I went to this well-known hair salon here in the Philippines. I expected them to handle the business well coz of their reputation but the hair-dresser cut one part of my hair too short that my hair had no chance but to be cut short. Thankfully, they had another hair-dresser available and she is better than who was cutting me previously. She substituted and did the job perfectly. Although i didn't get the look i was hoping for, my hair looked great. That's the last time i went to get my hair cut in a salon, by the way. After that, i always went to a barber shop like i usually did. I figured, salons are for women and men who wants to be women.

A new avatar for ya too Looks good and suits the Visions
You were lucky that you still liked the new style they gave you. The salon ones are quite stubborn and wont easily go by what you need.. they kind of think they are the pioneers in their field and also our heads or bodies are their playgrounds without referees
I cut my own hair since I got the training from one of my stays at the Army camps and I think that is a safer way... I cant blame myself if I do anything wrong

Hi!
For me if it come to beauty, a beautician or barber should be profession enough and can never make any major mistake especially trim off someone eyebrows.
If that happen, I believe the salon or barber shop will probably close down within a short period. How do you feel if one day you go to a salon and doze off during the process and wake up found that you are bold? Can you imagine that?

I go to the Barber once a week and I really don't feel comfortable in that Barber Shop. Her tools are not that sharp which results in pulling my hair. It happens all the time which I really hate. But I just keep my mouth shut and let her continue without saying that her tools are not sharp. I can't resist going to that Barber because it is the nearest and the Barber is my mother's friend.

This happens almost every time I go to my barber. I tell him to cut my hair very less, but he ends up cutting it in his way. I tried changing barbers but it is the same every time. Finally, I stuck to one barber coming to a conclusion that, no mater what instructions you give, he will go his way only. I am used to this now. It hardly takes a week to get back to your normal shape. Hence, I make sure that I go to a barber only on Friday evening after work, so that Saturday and Sunday are off and can go out on Monday, which will buy me almost three days time to get adjusted to the new hair cut. Cheers...

Your barber seems to know just a few of the styles and hope he is good at them... Always better to stick to one particular one if that can be made possible... even your hair would not feel comfortable being handled differently each time you visit a new guy

Personally it can be quite Frustrating and makes you not want to pay them. Especially when you are going somewhere that is a little higher in cost. I think you would expect more professionalism there, but I have seen my husband get some of the worse cuts there, or the hair is still too long, etc. to where it makes you wonder where the woman or man ever got permission to cut hair for a living.
Now if it happens just because they were not watching close enough sometimes it is to be expected, but in reality a person knows if it was mistaken or not when a mishap happens, and you just hope for the Best from there.

Hi thesids,
The eyebrow mishap hasn't happened to me and NOT the mustache
I have, however, had bad hair cut a few times. Last time was about 2 months ago. The hairstylist cut it wayyy shorter than I want.
What I did?? Nothing.
I believe what happened happened and no amount of shouting or throwing a tantrum is going to get my hair longer. I would just go somewhere else next time.
Have you seen the movie 'Legally Blonde' (can't remember 1 or 2) - Elle Woods (Reese Witherspoon) said something like, 'I can't blame the hairstylist. I was there and I witnessed this and I didn't speak up'. Something along those lines. I think that's quite true.
