Hello friends, we will meet the new year with our friends, may be around 6-7 people all will spend the time on one table. Last year we stayed the plans to be done from our friends and that's how they decided to shop in the last moment, when it was hard for us to find meat, it was too late for making salads, it was too late for cooking. That's how we spend around 100$ for different nearly prepared food and i can say that it was not tasty at all. That's why this year i decided to cook by myself, what i can do for our celebration together and i'll try to buy all the products with around 50$ so i'm thinking what to cook.
In our meal for sure will have pork chops, potatoes salad, home made bread, cheese pie with lucks written on little lists, i plan beans salad and baked pepper with beans inside, which is one of my favorite foods.
How do you plan your New Year meals? Will you be the one, who will cook?

Hi Suggar,
Well, I'm going to be working this year so I don't even have to worry about it. Whenever we have get togethers we don't leave it on one person to do all the shopping, cooking etc. Everyone who comes brings a homemade dish. We plan ahead and everyone has to call the host and let her know what they will be bringing to avoid duplicates. We get a great variety of delicious foods and the hostess can relax and enjoy the party too. Just a thought.

Sid, one of guys can cook, i'm sure of that. He was working as a bartender and serving guy in coffee stores, so i bet he can cook some without problem, because when we went in his home for his birthday, there were so delicious stuff prepared. I'm sure that a part of all was cooked by his mother, but he got great taste for decoration. He always helps me when they come home and i have to serve food, he always ask if i need help.
But let's say it that way, i am with my boyfriend from one year now and it will be that way may be for long in the future, so i want to make traditions from this year for the future. When they have girlfriends, i'll be thankful if all the girls bring something prepared from them on the table, when it's new year, i'll be really happy. For now i want to prepare what i love and i know that all around love the taste. One of my boyfriend's friend said today that last New Year all of us spent a lot of money, so we got leading point for good start - to eat tasty and to spend less money.

Hi Suggar,
I am a southern girl, so me and my family will have some southern dishes such as chicken, pork roast, greens, homemade cornbread, etc. My mother had this traditions that we still carry on. She would cook a pot of black-eye-peas with a clean shinny dime somewhere in the pot; whoever was lucky enough to receive the dime would have the great luck/blessings for the year (just for fun). I will not eat so much because I am still thinking about all the food we served at Christmas; I do want to get into my clothes when I head back to work on the 3rd.

Happy new year to u. Your meal sounds good. The traditional food for new year's here is blak-eyed peas, cabbage, hog's jowl & whatever else u want w/it. I will cook for myself but my kids wouldn't eat any of that if they came, lol. If u don't eat the peas we put some dreied ones in our pocket for good luck.lol.

I love peas, but not and my boyfriend, so i've never cooked peas before, since we live together. I love it with potatoes and clean pork meat, without fatness. My boyfriend is like a kid in his eating, so i completely understand what you meant about your kids and how they wouldn't eat none of what you will prepare

I purchased the food before Christmas every year. Our New Years day meal will be roasted pork with potatoes. It is tradition in our family to have some kind of pork or ham on New Years Day.

To make it a little easier for us, me and some neighbor friends just do a pot luck dinner during the holidays. It would be the same for new year's eve.
At Christmas eve, we brought chicken wings. So I too am still figuring out what to bring this time. Preferably, something with meat too. I just find that a lot of people bring desserts, so I want to bring a meat dish to make it more filling.

it is always better to cook our meals by ourselves rather than buying them from outside... it is cheaper and healthier as well... and the most important thing is, we can cook them to suit our taste... as for my new year's meal, i haven't really decided on them yet... i still have a few days to think about them... most probably they will just a simple stir-fry chinese dishes... that's all... take care and have a nice day...

Actually not one of our friends or family has spoken up about New Years Eve this year. We might end up just staying home alone. We usually get together with some friends and everyone brings some sort of appetizer to share. That is usually good enough and plenty of food for everyone and instead of sitting down to a meal we just kind of nibble all night long. Last year I made BBQ chicken wings. A few times I have made meatballs, but we will have to wait and see about this year if we even end up being with anyone.

It's the same right here. Last year we spent with friends of my boyfriend in their apartment - three guys, best friends of my loved one. Guys are not really good in plans, this is what i understood last year That's why i decided to make the difference, because these friends has eat cooked food from me and they like it. Just today i asked my boyfriend what shall we do? We don't have money to buy every kind of food, so i want everything to be calculated in a right way. If i can't buy everything for cooking, we can make plan who will bring something ready or are we going to give some money each of us to the one person who will shop or cook. Guys always forget it, we got only 4 days for preparing for the celebration and i plan on 30th or 31th to cook whole day long, so it won't be easy.

We will have another Turkey Dinner on New Years Day, and I'm all turkeyed-out ha ha
Now, we'll also make bbq-turkey pizza (homemade) from the leftovers, made the same way you'd find a bbq chicken pizza :-)
This year we were able to pick lots of cranberries so we'll be having my hand-picked cranberries a lot this holiday season :-)

You can buy Frozen Chicken nuggets, chips for starter. For full meas keep all stuff for burgers such as bread, salads, cheese, Sauces and beef. Rice is easy to cook so keep rice with Soup and in dessert you can have Cake, pie or Mango moose. Happy Celebration!

In our area (Swiss heritage)
The meal for new years day is sauerkraut and sausage.
I like it on top of mashed potatoes.
