If you have a car...

Would you hide money in it just in case you forgot your wallet or needed the money for gas or car repairs, maybe a quick snack? I know a lot of people have change in their dash etc, but I'm talking about say stashing a $20 or $100 so that you can have it in case you need it.

I keep 15 dollars stashed in the rear seat ash tray. I have never allowed smoking in my car, so it never gets used. I have had to use it once. I was on my way up to my parents and needed gas. The only place in the podunk town i stopped in, did not have their credit card machine working, and I was not local enough to write a check. I did not have enough gas to make it to the next town, at least i didnt think I did. My husband still thinks that it is silly for me to keep 15 bucks stashed in my car, but from experience, I will always keep it there.

It really came in handy then and I'm sure you're really glad you had it! Yeah you gotta be careful when travelling, cash is always a good thing to have!

I might. And I can think of some very ingenious place to hide it too. That is an interesting idea I hadn't thought of before. Not sure I would put enough in there for car repairs cause that can be a big ticket item. I wouldn't go as high as $100 just setting there. But maybe a $20 or even $50.

Yeah maybe saying for repairs was a bit too... much but definitely having some for emergencies, and I can think of some good places too but I don't know.

wow took all your change? that's just not right! Yeah sticking small bills is better because like gas stations don't take anything but $20's mostly.

I haven't tried that but it sounds like a good idea. Nobody would know it except when you leave it for total car cleaning and you forget about it. That would be a problem.

If you remember it when the car is still in the shop you can either go get it, or you can wait and if it goes missing you have a pretty good indication of who did it.

I use to do it always. Because I know. I always forget my wallet. And its too irritating. Because in my wallet, I used to keep not only money but all of my credit and debit cards. So used to get really angry on myself. So I use to carry extra money and hide in my car. And lot of time, it has proven usefull to me atleast by buying something with that money.

Yeah it's always a good feeling when though you've forgotten your wallet you have back up funds so you can still buy what you need and want.

Yeah, I would hide money in my car if my car is not so expensive that would attract carnappers.Having some cash in your car helps especially if you're stranded in a remote area & credit/debit cards won't do.But you have to hide it in such a way that it is not visible from the outside so as not to attract robbers.

Yes, you definitely have to keep it in a good hiding spot. I think though that nice car or not, you should keep money hidden for emergencies, just like you said especiallty if you're stranded in a remote area.

I used to do that previously but now a days I really stopped that practice.Normally I keep some money on my dash board but then I discontinued this as this attracts thieves while I park my vehicle. Since the time I have discontinued this practice I had to suffer a couple of times where I went to market without carrying any money with me. But fortunately it was my wife in both the cases who came to my rescue and I could borrow some money from her at a much higher rate of interest for few hours! LOL! Now having read your posting I will have to rethink and should make some fool proof arrangements to keep the money which will come as a rescue in case of emergency! Thanks for the posting, though it was on a lighter side of life , it was definitely a thought provoking and purposeful one! Thanks !

Yes, putting it in the glove compartment or in the middle console would be beneficial people aren't going to see it. Even under a car mat provided the car mat stays firm and won't slide so that the money slips out.

Probably not. I can't even leave the quarter to use for an Aldi cart in my van w/o someone sneaking off with it. Plus my hubby doesn't believe in locking vehicles

I'd be afraid I'd go out and not have any, or accidentally use it on something I don't need so having some stashed would be good for me.

Well, I might leave small loose change in my car, but I wouldn't leave large bills in my car. I definitely wouldn't leave a hundred dollar bills, as I don't even carry that much with me. I probably wouldn't even leave a 20 dollar bill. It'd probably just be small loose change.

small loose change adds up after awhile though and people are less likely to steal it though it's hard to hide that if you get so much of it.

I would never do something like that, well...at least I don't think I would. I think it would be to easy for someone to just break into the car and take it. Now, I have left snacks in the car before for those emergencies that arise, or when the kids get hungry.

Yeah you have to be careful and hide the money so that no one can see it, it makes it less likely that someone would break in. I think it's always a good idea to have some for emergencies just because sometimes the bank account gets low, or you're out and no atm for miles lol.

I would never hide money in my car. too many things could happen and that money could be gone forever. i think my money would be safer somewhere else other than in my car that anyone might be able to get the keys to.

I can understand that, but it's still a good idea to have a bit of money in the car just because sometimes you don't have money or sometimes you forget your wallet.

Yes it is always good to have a little bit of money stashed away just in case of an emergency. I am glad you have some stashed!

No way. Maybe a five dollar bill. But if I hid away 20 to 100 dollars somewhere in my car, that would be the day my car would end up getting stolen.

I used to keep money in the glove box of the other truck that I had, but I had money to spare then. I don't have any extra money at all now, so I don't have any money to keep in my truck now. I would still keep money stashed in there if I had any to put in it though. I would probably find a more secure way to keep it in there than just putting it in the glove box in an envelope the way I used to...

I don't think I would ever do that. I don't have a car though, :p but when I get a car I probably won't stack over $20 in it. I don't know why I would, I always have money in my purse so why should I leave it in the car?

I used to do this. My old car had cushy leather seats that had folds on the sides. I used to stuff folded bills in-between the seats. Back then I didn't really have any money, so this 'emergency money' of mine always ended up as gas money. Nowadays I just use a debit card, so I don't have any cash in the seats. Or even my wallet.

i would cause there is this once or twice unfortunate days in a year that we always seem to be dreaming when we leave home, sort of leaving the house key under the carpet in any case :D

I'd never have thought of leaving money in the car for emergencies. With my luck the car would be stolen!
