Las Vegas Wedding... Your thoughts

I am in the process of planning my wedding in Las Vegas in August. I am only 26, so naturally all of my friends are really on board and excited about the idea. But, concern is how my family members will feel about the idea. We are having a religious ceremony at Mandalay Bay, so the ceremony itself will be classy. But my question is, what is your thought about Las Vegas Weddings? Even though it is being held in a nice place, because it is Vegas, would you still associate it as a shotgun wedding with an Elvis imposter?

I was just in Vegas for the first time last month! I think I know what your concern is. That even if you had the classiest wedding, years from now, when you tell people that you got married in Vegas, you're afraid that all they will be thinking is Elvis and a shotgun wedding. I think it's up to you make it very memorable. And as far as whatever misconception people will have. Congratulations! And take a lot of pictures!

I was born and raised in Las Vegas and I personally HATE the "Vegas Wedding" stereotype. First of all, there are dozens of luxury resorts, upscale wedding groups and country clubs that offer extremely high-class wedding services. Second of all, Las Vegas is a REAL city, with REAL people. There ARE "normal" venues, churches, etc in Las Vegas as well. Just like anywhere else, the wedding reflects the people getting married, not the address on the venue wall. I have seen cheap shotgun weddings (one in a trailer park, how classy) and I've seen a million-dollar wedding at an exclusive country club. I myself got married at Caesar's Palace. Does this look like an Elvis drive-in to you? http://c4.ac-images.myspacecdn.com/images01/70/l_bedecccb740e7143eb157055bcfb23d7.jpg

Wedding is something special and it occurs only once in life. So, you have all rights to decide on planning your dream wedding. If you ask me if I want to have a wedding in Los Vegas, I would say no. I would prefer a classy church wedding with my family and I don't have enough money to spend for a traditional wedding and a Los Vegas wedding, so I would stay back.

It may sound "cheesy" to some, but I loved Elvis's music, and if I had a choice, I would get marrieds in Vegas, and I would get married by an Elvis impersonator. It would be better than getting married by the justice of the peace. Love me tender...

Congratulations ShaNichole! Planning the wedding will be stressful so equip yourself with a lot of patience. I have nothing against the Las Vegas wedding. It is you special day so you get to choose which ever place you want for the ceremony. I believe Mandalay Bay is a beautiful place. Just go with what your heart beats. Congratulations again.
