Rarely will I answer the phone if I don't recognize the number. Most of the time, I don't. I have voice mail, where I specifically say to leave a message if they want to talk to me. I figure if someone really wants to talk to me, they'll leave a message saying who they are and I can call them back. If not, then it's probably a wrong number and not really worth the time of picking up in the first place.

Hello angelwriter. It is good also but what if that person who are calling you have eagerly important matters to tell you? As I said in the previous comments, it is better to answer the call to figure out who is calling us and know if it is scam or not.
Well, thanks for sharing your comments with us and have a nice day ahead..

Well, they can still leave a message. If it's such an important matter, I would think they'd definitely leave a message. It would only be a minute delay. The very first thing I do after the phone stops ringing is to check the voice mail to see if the person left a message. I can't think of anything so urgent that dire consequences would happen between the time it would take to listen to a message and hit redial to call them back.

One more thing I should add. I HATE talking on the phone. I mean, seriously. It's practically a phobia. I'm okay when it's someone I know really well, but going in completely unprepared, not knowing who the person is or what the call is about? That's the stuff of nightmares for me. At least if I have a message, I have some general idea of who the person is and what they want and I have something to go on to steady myself before talking to them.
I'm not worried about scammers or anything. I'm more worried that it'll be someone who wants to discuss a bill I can't pay, and I'll be all tongue tied. Or will be some telemarketer. Or maybe someone who doesn't care that they don't know me and want to talk and I won't know how to gracefully get out of it because I won't want to be rude. So, I'm holding the phone feeling terrible, all because I picked it up to a number I didn't know. To avoid that, I'm willing to risk missing something important, because I didn't answer. (But, like I said, if it really is that important, why wouldn't they leave a message so I would know to call them back?)
Not trying to argue, just wanted to explain myself more.

Yes i answer the call if i don't know the number. Because it doesn't prove that i don't know the caller. Sometime known person call me from unknown number. After i receive the call if i found that i don't know the caller then i just cut the phone and next time i don't pickup the phone from that number only.

I am not afraid of answering my phone if I don't know the caller, but I generally don't do it. All the people who I gave my cell number to, are all listed in my phone, so if an unknown number calls, it's nobody I want to talk to.
On my cell, I get a lot of calls from debt collectors and such trying to reach presumably a previous owner of my number. I kept telling them that it was the wrong number, but they just keep calling. I actually have it set up so that if the number in unknown, my phone will not ring.
As for my house phone, this is the number I give out when I'm looking for a job, or calling about my bills or other things like that- non-personal calls. If the number is not listed, I typically just let the machine get it and if it is important, they will leave a message.
This way I don't have to deal with wrong numbers, prank calls, telemarketers, etc.

Hello Sketch.. Yeah, there are lots of cases like that and it is possible to happen again if the person didn't care of it.. But for me, I'll take a risk because sometimes, those people who have not a phone might have important matters for us. you better ignore it my friend because you have lots of experience about those people..

Yes, I do. It is not necessary that always our knowing people only make calls to our mobiles. In fact I am getting a number of calls and many are unknown people. May be from banks, or with third party relations. It is possible, and I used to attend all calls and even missed calls, I used to make call and find who that person with whom I could not contact.
I don't categories my calls, if someone calls they are looking for me for something. It can be wring numbers, but is is less than 1%, in my cease.
Thank-s

There's no point in having a phone if you are not going to answer it. Sure you get some wrong numbers but many of these turn out quite well. A little fun with confused callers can brighten up your day. You might even make some new friends. That's not so weird, is it? It's only what many people do each day with online chatting.

You are right Puccagirl because sometimes, we don't know that person who are calling needs our help and it is emergency. It is easy to drop the call if the caller is anonymous.

On our home phone, I let the answering machine answer if I don't know or recognize the number calling. I don't care to talk to tele-marketers and since my daughter has been looking for work, sometimes bill collectors call looking for her. UGH. Now, if you are talking about my cell phone...I absolutely don't talk to them if they are not in my address book.

Hello estherlou..Well, good thing that you have a answering machine to let answer the calls you didn't know the caller. And about the mobile, it is better to answer it because sometimes people didn't call you in your mobile phone if they were not important. So, better answer it and if they are not important, you can drop the call.

You are absolutely right choybel. why not answer the call so that we can find out who is the anonymous caller and easy to cut the call if it seems the caller is not really important..
Once again, thanks for sharing your comments with us and have a nice day ahead.

Hello choybel..I think you have a point because for me, I hate thinking who called me and that's the way to know if that person who are calling is relatives or friends. Just easy to end the call if we don't really know the caller after we answered it. I'm a curious person that's why I always want to know who missed call me, even if it comes from the anonymous.
Well, thanks for sharing your comments with us and have a nice day ahead.

yeah, I'd like to answer all the calls no matter whether the number is stored in my contact list.
this is the precondition that no fee is charged when I answer the call, then I would like to..
For some of my friends have multiple numbers,I don't want to miss any of their calls.
I may haven't them all in my list after all.
Even if any stranger dials the wrong number and get connected with me,I am glad to greet them.it is funny in the boring life.
As well as for some product promotion ,I'd like to learn some information related to their product if I am free....

But sometimes, there are people who didn't like to answer the call which they didn't know the number or the caller not save the phone. Because for them, it is not good and it is a matter of disturbing..There are telemarketers like that and they were annoying in my part..

Hello sk66rc. Well, in that case, you don't need to refuse the call because maybe the caller is your costumer that asking for your help. Being a translator is very hard work that makes you work hard and study hard right? Because there were lots of people who really annoying sometimes. But you must be patient all the time. Be nice to them.

Hello high..that's your own opinion and I respect that but who knows if that caller is your parents and have very ,urgent matters to tell you? What should you do? It is better to answer the phone even if you didn't know the caller or the number so that you know who called you. and if it is a wrong number, better to end the call..

Hi careguarden! First of all I have Caller ID and if I don't know
for sure who is calling I don't usually answer. And if I suspect
that it is a Telemarketer or someone else that I don't want to
speak to I won't pick the phone up! I don't even pick the phone
up when it is my friends who are calling that I don't feel like
speaking to if they are calling at a bad time and I know that I
can call them back! I think that's what Caller ID is for anyway~

Hello Opal26. Good to know that you have a caller ID so that you will already know the numbers and you can easily refuse to answer it if you know that is the telemarketers. In my part, I also hate that someone called me and no numbers appear in my phone. That would be a great help on your part my friend that you have a caller ID.
Well, thanks for sharing your comments with us and have a nice day ahead.

Yes, I have answered my phone, but I must say that I don't really get all that many calls from those I don't know, and if I do, it is either a compahy I am dealing with, that i didn't recognize the number, or it would be a wrong number entirely. I do get those once in awhile, however, I don't really get that many, and I am glad about that. Now, I won't answer 1-800 numbers, as more than likely they are just telemarketing calls anyway, and since they are annoying, and trying to get me to buy something I didn't ask for, then I just ignore them and not talk to them. I feel that it is my discretion who I talk to, especially when they call me. Take care, and have a very good day.

Hello rosekiss..Yeah, it's true. We can recognize the number who are calling if it is the telemarketers because their numbers. But apparently, those people who try to call me might something important matters to tell you so better answer it and if you don't like the caller, its time to end the call and save it to your phone to aware you that if that number call you again you know exactly that it was the same person you don't like right?

Hello csabicz.your right because we didn't know if our relatives, friends borrow the phone from the other people just to inform us or call us so that we will know what happened to them.
